Buttons got pushed, but no one got angry!
That's not how RUclips works, but I'll allow it.
Someone somewhere is always angry for some reason or another...
That work bench is so nice, I wouldn't even want to lay a pencil on it. Awesome work man👌
@@SamSamuylik You did. You made a rant video about the responses you got to this video. Haha.
@@ksp1278 ?what
His work bench makes my dinner table look like a work bench.
😵
My dinner table looks like a workbench anyways
I'm confused
@@kevinvu5432 It's very pretty and functional
@@galaxyboy1431 its what!?😵
I'm so impressed with how simple and effective they are.
And so beautiful while being useful! 👍
They should be called prairie dogs, since they pop up out of holes.
Yes!
Golf clap.
Lee Valley sells a similar item under that name. But John's approach looks a lot less expensive unless you only want one or two.
Prairie Dogs also refer to bowel movements that are coming before you can get to the bathroom to relieve yourself...
@@mr.robinson1982 A bowel movement is the event of moving one's bowels. That phrase refers to the _act_, not to the product. If you are too polite to say "poop" (but not polite enough to simply avoid the subject) try "feces" or "excrement"
Even if these dogs were completely useless (which they are not, of course)......they make that beautiful workbench look super sexy! Great idea as usual John👍
Love this channel.
SO thankful for youtube enabling people to show off and be incentivized to teach everyone cool stuff.
Your bench is lovingly bootstrapped and full of demonstrations of your elegant use of carpentry knowledge and technique. I admire your work ethic and hands on ingenuity as a fellow Canadian.
I couldn't even eat, let alone work, at that workbench, as beautiful as it is. 😂👍
His shop might literally be worth a million dollars with lumber prices
Yeah, I'm a messy jerk with tools. It's impressive work.
I love all the little tools and devices of your own design that you casually use throughout your videos, with obvious (but well-deserved) pride.
I appreciate your impromptu lessons on how to deal with kerf binding and to fearlessly push stock past a router bit without hurting yourself.
I always get nervous when I see somebody using a table saw without a riving knife.
And those hands seemed to be dangerously close to that router bit.
@@diether2423 being nervous is not the same thing as being in danger. I learned that a long time ago. You just have to know what you are doing.
@@lxoxrxexnx well, in this case there was no reason not to use a riving knife. So for sure it could've been done in a safer way.
@@diether2423 if I accuratedy recall how the video went, I saw no blood or bits of flesh go flying so that's as safe as it gets.
John has made numerous comments in the past about his knowledge of safety and good practices. The main thing is not the tools but one's attitude and thoughtfulness that you bring to bear when using tools. If you know anything about John you will know that he has been making his living doing this stuff for about 40 years and still has all his fingers intact.
I understand the unease that you are feeling. My saw still scares me everytime I use it even after my 40 years of using it. That's what keeps my fingers still attached to my hand despite also not using a riving knife.
I have been hurt by tools; but they all have been hand tools and because I did not fear them enough or had been inattentive while using them.
Still, we all have our ways and you can and should use whatever way you wish to keep your blood from leaking out.
@@lxoxrxexnx Safe means low risk, not accident-free.
I agree about the danger of hand tools. I just sliced my finger nicely with a bow saw blade, that a few minutes ago I had resting on my shoulder near my carotid. The older I get, the fumblier.
Out of everyone who makes stuff on youtube, I truly believe this dude has the most streamlined and efficient workshop. its inspirational.
435 I've just started cutting and I hit this problem. I had no idea how to handle this situation. I tried to push forward, decided it was too dangerous, and just abandoned the cut. I wish more woodworkers showed us novices how to handle the bad situations instead of editing out the imperfections. Like it or not, you internet guys are our teachers. We don't have anyone else.
So thank you for that very important teaching moment. You've just made me more effective and MUCH safer.
John I’ve been watching you for a long time. I’ve said it before. You are a damn genius. This turned out awesome.
-Ben
I like the amount of thought you put into things. Very smart system.
Each time I think nothing can surprise me more, but John says No)))
Your designs really are just Incredible practicality stemmed from decades of trial and error, embellished with beautiful craftmanship and material choice. Loved It John, been loving this channel for years.
The layout and wood choices are amazing. Looks very traditional with a hint of modern. How I’d imagine a fancy bowling lane with finely crafted inlays. Workbench is amazing but I still miss how functional you made the big wooden mechanics Vice look. You used the hell out of that thing.
Simple, yet so effective and elegant. That Spalted Maple is beautiful.
1/2" round over for dowels!? Never would have thought of that! Also, this is the coolest thing I have seen in a while!!!
That's probably my takeaway from this video. I had never considered doing that
this is the most beautiful and best thoutght out workbench I've ever seen
And it's getting better and better with each upgrade you're installing!
Such a clever idea. I may try and steal this for making kids toys.
Thank you John for showing once again how cool contraptions can be made by using just wood as the construction material.
I know nothing about wood working but sir, i am impressed. I dunno what those things were for like the whole damn video but makes sense. Work smarter, not harder right.
The ingenuity of your projects is astounding
You are an inventive genius sir.
Lovely elegant solution to a need
The last minute got you my like as before that I was just super confused on why you are making these. And after you demonstrated their use, it seems super elegant, quick and useful for a woodworker.
Mr.Heisz, I find you to be one of the most ingenious engineer on the internet. Your videos are very informative and a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing.
I mostly clicked on this video for the spalted maple plugs in the thumbnail, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Your obvious manipulation worked on me again John. Good video.
That was the fastest subscription i've ever made. Literally like 20 seconds of video convinced me
Great, innovative solution. So much better than losing a screw in one of the 100 holes in the bench top so many people tend to favour these days.
Function AND form. Love the look of spalted wood, so nice.
spalted wood a fair bit weaker than sound wood though... not sure it's the right choice for a bench dog?
John, your idea is great! Then you have the generosity to share them! A double whammy.
Thanks!!
I am really liking you showing the synergy of hand tools and machine tools lately. Odd piece, need a flat edge, whip out a hand plane and move forward. Really nice to see that because it opens up ideas for others on how to get things done with limited tools.
That is a truly fine project John. The one problem that I see is that I would have to build a fine workbench like yours in order to use them. Great video, thumbs up
that workbench is too cool
This is a great idea. I’m adding this to my “dream woodworking bench” master plans.
I love your home made tool housing for almost every tool... it's just lovely. So lovely.
Ingeniousness, experience and art=talented craftsman. Adoring!
So simple and effective, and Beautiful.
Nice job John👍👍👍
Wow... RUclips recommendation strikes again with this gem I didn’t knew about !
Great skills, really amazed by all the wooden machine tools !!
yet another proof that John is a genius
I was wondering how this boomerang gets in between those deep holes. I was thinking of using the right angle drill extension or something.
I never thought I'd see this kind of innovation - you made a small part of the world even better. That's pretty rad.
At first, before clicking, I was like what????? But after watching it... I really like this idea! It looks so cool as well! The dark oak I believe is beautiful! Very thought out operation dude. SUBSCRIBED!
Guys only I noticed- THIS GUY HAS EVERYTHING MADE OUT OF WOOD-
Sheer genius! I wish that I had half your skills, creativity.... (or workshop) Thank you for sharing this.
My mind gets blow in probably every video I watch on this channel! Keep it up!
Your the true definition of "self MADE man"!
That workbench is so beautiful!
Great idea John.👍👍
Is just magic and awesome workpiece 👍
That was very cool. I love all the custom made accessories - router table, drill press, work bench, etc.
Man that stuff is so pretty
Very nice. Simple and effective.
These were so simple and so effective. Very well done
I’m zero into wood working but enjoyed your video so here is a note for the algorithm
Spalted Maple is so beautiful. It looks like a really delicious flavor of iced cream
Any spalted wood is a beautiful accent to small wood working projects. I used spalted oak to make a cantilevered 2-tier box for my multimeter, which I really enjoy looking at.
Wow. Very impressive. Great idea
So many nice tricks in this one video. Thank you for this!
Very clever dog system, excellent video that not only illustrates well your concept, but also demonstrates the full process, start to finish, that I can even follow. Thanks and have a wonderful holiday season.
Thanks very clever and well executed.
Love the drill press!!!
Brilliant! Great design!
So fun to watch you create!
Clever. Useful. Easy to build. I like it. Thanks for sharing.
This showed up in my recommended and it's the first video I have watched of yours and I loved it. So simple, yet effective! I want these on a picnic table so I can fidget with them!
I’m an electrician but man I appreciate woodworking. Such a cool art
Fantastic! Very clever!
Awesome, man. You nailed it.
It's such an great workbench
Great problem solving there.
This is so freaking cool, I am genuinely amazed at how such a simple concept can work so well.
It's pretty cool seeing your shop evolve over the years. I've implemented many of your inventions in my own shop. Here is one more to add to the list.
Очень здорово и функционально!!!!! Супер идея!!!
Brilliant idea!
I love the sound of a plane cutting wood :^)
How many nifty tricks was that along the way to a Genius Idea?
Great ideal, brilliant execution, and each step answered the questions forming in my head.
Nice. I'm impressed how you've come up with a ridiculously simple solution that just works.
As an engineer, I was picturing a much more complex mechanisms when I saw the first demo of them working............. Seems you have a vastly better K.I.S.S mentality than me. :)
Very cool, and that's a beautiful workbench! I made pop-up dogs for my previous workbench using parts from magnetic push latches -- push once and it pops up, push again and it stays down. I wish I could say I came up with the idea myself, but I got it from some RUclipsr whose name I've forgotten.
Was it John Zhu?
@@Ravenspath I don't think that's the video I saw originally, but it's a good one: ruclips.net/video/OJ0WUj18xhY/видео.html
Man, you making those dowels was.....gutsy
How did I go this long without knowing that saw binding trick!? Good stuff!
This is an awesome build. Thanks for sharing.
Wow!!!
I am always impressed by your ideas Mr Heisz.
These, like all your other projects, are just superb.
I appreciate the only putting in holes/dogs as you need them instead of 100 drilled holes in the beginning. Chances are a bunch of those holes would never be used. I vote GENIUS!
Love the concept John. They seem to work really well. Great idea!
This idea is right on the button.
Those are super cool! Your a pretty crafty guy John.
Wow! Amazing work.
Great job on thinking outside the box
Excited for you. I remember a time you were frustrated... and I know it's more complicated than this but you weren't getting the views that you should have been getting for a lot of hard work you were putting in. I am noticing that more and more of your videos are crossing the 100k mark very quickly, and I hope that means you are getting more fairly rewarded and compensated for your work. One of my favorites to watch John. Thanks for being one of my online shop teachers :).
Thanks. Always impressed by your skills.
Great job! That spalted maple adds a beautiful accent to your table.
Genius, pure woodworking genius!! 👍👍👏👏
Clever idea
Especially the foam as a spring
So cool John! My favorite detail was the friction spring.
amazing idea, well executed
Oh my god that maple is gorgeous.
Very clever. Thanks very much for sharing.
Great film. Awesome design and fab. Mahalo for sharing!🙂🐒
Those are very cool and yet very practical too. Of all the take-aways from this video, I think it was the sureness of that stop block you put on the drill-jig. It just looked so solid unlike some of those threaded beasties you get on many saws, drill presses etc! Btw I noticed how close you got with your right hand on the router.... you just can't help winding up the 'safety-junkies, can you, John!?
