Amazing that the film only grossed about 50 ,000 in England. Seems the Brits would rather bathe in glorious memories like Zulu but have a hard time watching themselves get beat.

that film that is about the Zulu men being mowed down by british men in red coats in their native country now called South Africa, its blatantly racist...hardly showing the british empire in a glorious light(even though that was probably its intention seeing as it was made in the 1960,s)

    • @wesrm1

I think it has more to do with the fact that the general public is not interested in history and usually won’t go watch period films. Michael Collins is such a folk hero in Ireland, on the other hand, that the film was able to be a huge success there.

@@61505 Zulu was made by Left-wingers who actually detested the Empire and also made at a time when the Empire days were more than numbered. If you watch the end of the film Michael Cain's character refers to himself as being ashamed and a butcher - hardly pro-Empire if you ask me. It is certainly a work of it's time but event he Zulu chief now does not consider it racist and reflects the respect the British and tribal warriors had for each other.
