If the Catholic Church has this much money to pay out to sexual abuse victims, then the church needs to be taxed.

If the Catholic Church had protected its students and parishioners more than their clergy this would not be a topic of discussion.
Protecting The Brand was of greater importance than protecting people.

In a normal business (the Church’s model), these bishops should have been fired for their huge failures.

Public schools should be held to this standard too.

I’ve seen statistics that it’s actually far more common in public schools, but no school system will ever pay out like this.

Note to all Catholics in Illinois: the law governing statutes for civil cases is cemented into the state constitution, so unless the legislature there cares to amend that, victims there will die without ever seeing justice. To make matters even worse, when the Illinois AG released their report on the abuses of the church recently, they made a recommendation that the church should proactively pay out some form of restitution to victims as a gesture of good will so that victims could heal. The church kindly refused. THAT is criminal.

Remember, the settlement is not because children were sexually assaulted by wicked persons - the Church can be held responsible for the actions of thete fiendish individuals
The church was found lible because its official were aware of these matters and did not take reasonable action: stand an accsed person down while matter was investigated, advise competent authorities, sack people who had breached their work contracts, arrange care for surviors.
That is what every other business or state agency was expected to do. There was sexual and physical assult of minors inntge armed services, YMCA, the police itself, Child Protection services, foster care agencies. They too have been found lible and paid compensation
This settlement though indicates a massive and long standing moral abdication of senior leadership: in any other ordenisation they leaders would long been sacked.

Pray for victims of sexual abuse but need to understand God's mercy is beyond reproach. I can testify to say I led a promiscuous life for over a decade, going to strip clubs and red districts but God intervened through our Blessed Mother to lead me out of the darkest moment of my life to Jesus in the Eucharist 17 years ago during a pilgrimage to strengthen my faith and save my marriage. Nothing is impossible for God. It is the best time to be Catholic with Jesus in the Eucharist- the source of the summit of faith. Viva Cristo Rey and Ave Maria.

The State needs to lead the Church (Heirarchy) to admit secret crimes against the most innocent & vulnerable victims, bring about healing & justice, prevent such crimes in the future, & protect members from the clergy? What good is the Church at all?

No? it doesn't. The church hierarchy only takes orders from Rome and should not be controlled by the state

The gifts of laity and church procreation role gift members are not in collaboration but in their combining authorised by consecrated marriage role - identity celibate vowed to man in Christ or male female vowed to God in the keeping in uncertainty of belief of their inseparability and qualitative equality.

"A Catholic response" is outrageously presumptuous.. There are a billion or more Catholics in this world. "Response of a Catholic" or "One Catholic's response" would be much more appropriate.

Who could have imagined that the religion who makes up lies about Mary being immaculately conceived and being assumed into Heaven without dying would lack the morality to not take advantage of their followers? I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked.

You clearly haven't read Scripture. Jesus warns about this. He knows the human condition. People with this particular propensity looks for opportunities in which they are around children. Trust me the Church has gotten wiser with this and has strict policies in place. These lawsuits are from years ago and places where policies have not been followed and lax rules regarding what men are allowed to continue in seminary to become priests. It's interesting that you have a radar for finding fault for the Catholic Church. Why are you following Catholic media? Tell us your Church so we can get on their media to criticize them. Oh that's right, that would be sinful. Nevermind.

How might you be able to prove the abuse actually happened? It’s such a personal, private, sensitive and controversial matter. How did they come up with the amount? This stinks of lies to me.

Trust me they can. There are records and patterns of behaviors that are documented. My husband was one of the victims in the PA report. It's important that we protect children and vulnerable adults. It does a number on a person's relationship to God which is so deep and painful. By the way, both my husband and I are practicing Catholics.

It is diseased family member identities protecting their occult as hidden, incest connected as substitute mate, economic advantage of their families by tax-exemption embezzlements and lower insurance cost money by grooming psychologically and or emotionally vulnerable family members with the false inducement of "higher vocation" of consecrated celibate marriage vowed to man in Christ to consecrated male female marriage vowed to God.
