As a victim and a family counsellor, I strongly encourage victims to speak out. Bless my late mother, she sided with the priest because she believed a priest would never harm a child. I see families intimidate victims into remaining silent. I was warned not to speak up because the abuser might commit suicide. If victims believe the stress of coming forward caused this man's death, then that will also keep some victims silent. Speak out, it's time to begin the healing.
I am sorry that you suffered at the hands of a depraved priest and that others encouraged you to remain silent and by doing so they were complicit with the abuser.

Pray for victims of sexual abuse but need to understand God's mercy is beyond reproach. It's time to acknowledge that there were and are far more Holy chaste priests and nuns in Ireland than sick abusers. This kind of abuse goes on in homes and lay structures too. Why crucify good people who are doing good in Ireland? Shame on those who try to make money on innocent people. Let the law deal with lawbreakers when that is the case.
