      I have both the 120 and the 119 in my opinion the 119 is a better all around camp knife because of its size I have had mine for 30 years I just bought one of the 110 lights and I really like it because it's light weight I also carry my Leatherman and looking for a small camp axe as well if You do a lot of hiking and carry a back pack every bit of weight counts, I would spend the money on a nice medium sized axe the buck 120 will cost you about 200 dollars I inherited mine. It's more of a collectors piece then anything else.

    I agree with a lot of what you say concerning Buck & how they could regain primacy with some effort. I'm old, so I love a well made leather sheath. Have seen some great aftermarket ones watching knife sale videos, Buck could justify a price increase by adding something like those, (I know, ugh price increase). The 119, the Special is the classic Buck fixed blade, I never knew the number for this one, just the General. If you grab that in a hurry to get in the field you would be known as that big guy with the big 🔪 knife. ATB !

  • @GaboonViper67
    @GaboonViper67 Год назад +1

    I have a Sog Pentagon with a Kydex sheath. I tend to hate Kydex, in spite of it's durability, because it is noisy and in the case of the Sog Pentagon, it's a very sloppy fit. I have a piece of relatively firm, neoprene foam rubber that I cut to be just slightly over the size of the Kydex sheath's opening, where the knife goes in. I took a flat ended, long narrow tool, probably a gun cleaning rod, and forced it into the tip section of the sheath. After that, push the knife into the sheath and leave it for a few weeks. The Neoprene foam rubber will develop memory. The knife sits very still in the sheath now and does not even move. I can actually hold the sheath upside down, with the knife not fully inserted and it will not fall out.
    I just thought I'd put that out there, because I would probably do the same thing with the Buck 120, which is on it's way as we speak. I have a similar story to yours. My first Buck Knife, and first fixed blade knife, was the Buck Fisherman. It was a Christmas gift from my father. I was fishing for Red Salmon in Alaska and caught one. I typically used the Buck Fisherman to stab the fish in the brain, to kill them. I took it out to stab the Salmon I had just caught and it slipped out of my had, just from hip level, struck a rock horizontally and snapped 3/4" of the tip completely off.
    From that point on, for at least 35 years, I would not touch anything made of any form of 420 steel and THAT is why I held out so long on buying another Buck Knife. Fast forward 3.5 decades later and I find that they are making knives with CPM S35VN. I had been watching Buck for a long time, as I have been collecting knives since the 80's, waiting for them to finally step it up. I can't believe it took them so long.
    It's not the designs that is the problem. I don't think they should ever do away with their classics. They are still as good as ever, in terms of design, but even better with the upgraded materials. I plan on adding the Buck 119 Pro if there are any left. I just took the last Buck 120 General off of Amazon. Thanks for the story. I don't expect to be disappointed.

    Try 1902, 120 years in business. Someone else I just watched was going on about them being around since the 60s. LOL, don't you guys do ANY research? I do agree, they need new management. I just bought a 251 at a gun show. Not having done MY research, I paid far too much and got a shitty Chinese green Micarta stainless bladed folder that is an insult to knives the world over. It is a pretty package, but the blade dulls after only cutting 5 bananas. They wanted to offer something to the Walmart price point people. I think they need to DROP that idea immediately and assume their place as America's premier knife make. They let me trade in the little turd for my choice of their stock, at 1/2 price. Yup, now I have a 120 General Pro, green micarta, S35VN, hollow ground, for real Buck knife. Yes, I did tell management this exact opinion of mine. I hope they listen.

  • @Sinnerboy88

    Hello there! Thanks for uploading! Maybe you could give me some advice! How do you think the 120 Pro with the S35VN compares to the regular 120 with the black phenolic handle and the 420HC steel? I've been wanting to buy a 120 but I can decide between the two! I'm not sure how I feel about the green micarta.. I think I kinda like the classic black phenolic look best. But ultimately, that isn't the important thing! I'd saw on some of the boards people asking about S35VN vs 420HC and I was surprised to see majority seemed to opt 420HC. I just wondered what you thought. Many thanks.

    • @ATherapeuticEdge

      Bucks 420 is, historically, really well done. The price difference is such that I'd probably lean into the standard model if I was buying one as a user tool.

    • @Sinnerboy88
      @Sinnerboy88 Год назад +1

      @@ATherapeuticEdge Thank you very much! To be honest, I wont be using it much, if at all. I'm more of a collector than a user. But I ended up opting for the standard 120. Steel aside I just like the 120 with that classic black handle look. I just find it very aesthetically pleasing! Plus given that the 420HC seems to get a good rep as a good all rounder. I figured it'd be fine for me. I also have a 119 Special with the black phenolic so it'll be nice to have matching. I'm not saying that I wont get the green micarta 120 Pro at some stage though. Funny thing is, where I'm at there seems to be way more green micarta 120 Pro available than the Standard. Even the store I ordered the 120 from it was their last one, but they had lots of the Green micarta Pro model. I'll maybe get it next time. There is also a beautiful limited run Kalinga they have on their store. It was quite expensive however (at least to me!) it would work out around $500 USD. I'd love it but I've spent a lot recently!
