Hey guys. Last August, I attempted to go to MEPs but was temporarily disqualified. Over the course of several months, I received several LORs from doctors, my teachers, and my counselor. Today, my waiver was approved, and I am meant to go to MEPs again this Friday. This process has been extremely harsh on me. When I was initially declined, I thought it was over. I just wanted to leave a comment here saying that if you're in the process or require a waiver to enlist, go for it. It may take time, but in the end, it's worth it. Remember, don't give up. Just because the military entrance process is odd in some ways doesn't mean you cannot join your desired branch. Keep at it!
I feel you bro, I just went to meps and I couldn’t swear in because I needed to see an eye consult or whatever. I think the biggest mistake was that I didn’t plan anything else if I couldn’t join.
I was disqualified for astigmatism on my eyes currently waiting to see what happens... but the more difficult something gets the more worth it it’ll be.
unfortunately the waiver request is the appeal. you apply for a waiver whether it gets approved or denied that would be the end of it. what you can do is apply to a different branch than the one you previously applied to and apply for a waiver there and just hope that your waiver request gets approved the next time. but if your waiver request was denied for a certain branch then unfortunately that would be the end of it.
Yeah man just got denied I was born with a cataract in my right eye I’ve had it removed and have pretty damn good eye sight and still didn’t get a pass unbelievable that they take the ones that end up not wanting to be there and the ones that really want to be there get nothing it’s honestly a shame I’m going to try and get it appealed…we’ll see what happens
Bro when meps sent me to a private optometrist it was to most janky back alley doctor I've ever been to in Englewood. The machine that tries to check for what glasses would improve your vision was all messed up. Half the lenses were scratched. Also I got 20/20 on the eye test but then they dialated my eyes and gave me another test which they wrote 20/25 even though I only missed one of the smallest letters. I guess meps just wants to save money using doctors like this for consultations.
I passed everything, but I had astigmatism plus glaucoma suspect listed, but I went to an eye doctor before meps and they said otherwise, so I tried all branches, wavier denied...spent $200+ to end up being told I cant join....
Ive got the 9 waitin for me at home to blow my brains out if they deny me for the minor astigmatism i have im not fucking settling for a no this was my last shot at a successful career lol
@@esalazar828 Minor astigmatism less than + or -3.00 Diopters is not disqualifying as long as your eyes are otherwise healthy with no other eye issues present. Astigmatism exceeding 3.00 cylinder diopters is disqualifying and are waivable up to + or -5.00 cylinder diopters.
I am a former marine and naval officer. I have an abnormal EKG something I’ve had my entire life. Currently trying to get in the National Gaurd to finish my time. However, MEPS have disqualified my waivers several times eventhough I’ve gone and been cleared by an outside cardiologist.
I was temporarily disqualified like meps got my problem wrong and diagnose me wrong saying i was cross eye and had some other problem with eye.l which when I went to the eye consult the doctor say my eye were ok I just see better out of one of them.I know i'm waiting long time for my wavier to approve.
Hey Daniel! My name is Casey. Im 27 years old and I get check ups every three months at the eye doctor because i have glaucoma in my left eye. I know it sounds bad at first but surprisingly as long as you take the eye drops you are fine. This year i made the decision to join the army reserves. I like working in customer service and buisness management but I've always had a vision of seeing myself in to the military and have had a strong passion for it. I have not gone to talk to a recruiter yet. At the moment i am trying to prepare myself for my asvab test before i go see one. Today i had one of my appointments for my glaucoma and unfortunately the doctor found lattice degeneration in both of my eyes. She said my right eye has two small holes in the retina. One of the holes may have some fluid leaking from it. Of course i was floored by this news and the first thing that came to my mind was the military and i started to really get worried. Im seeing a specialist in two weeks to discuss some type of "laser" which was suggested by the doctor. After i got the news i started to do some research on what lattice is exactly and stumbled upon your video. I was surprised about how similar our situations are. Like i said i have not been to see a recruiter yet but i feel like this opportunity may get ripped from me because of this. I just wanted to reach out to see if there have been any updates with your condition and also with getting into the military as well. I know the disappointment you are feeling because im feeling it at the moment.
@@mariambadejo7596 Yes Mary! They found a hole in my retina which the doctor said was caused from the lattice. Im getting a 5 minute laser procedure in May to patch the hole up. After the procedure my doctor said she does not feel the need to put the word "lattice" on my chart. She is just going to put that i have a low risk hole on retina wall that has been patched. I will go speak with a recruiter after the procedure and see if they will accept me. Lets hope it will all work out!
That’s weird that your eye doctor said they can’t give you info... mines gave me everything I asked for and he was chill about everything..... but I’m still nervous because he said my vision could be corrected to 20/20 but I’ve seen stories of people with corrected vision not be able to get in

I’m trying to get into the coast guard I failed my hearing test 3 times I have no prior hearing problems and honestly don’t even know how I failed. Does anyone know what’s most likely going to happen? I’m very anxious about weather I’m going to get approved or not
It's stupid what people can be denied for. Like your issue wouldn't bother you until you are 60 or 70, and by that time, you would've already been retired.
The military is stupid in how they medically disqualify people. It’s no wonder there’s a big recruiting shortage when they’re disqualifying more people than they can afford to. Had asthma when I was younger and I was disqualified on that basis.
@@maraudergaminghd9118 congrats man! I know a guy who got his waiver for lattice also. It took 2 weeks to get it. Right now is a good time to join because they are willing to give waivers. Best of luck in the Navy!
Contrary to popular belief of this congressional inquiry myth, contacting a congressman/senator will not work with medical permanently disqualifying conditions. All they will do is simply say they are unable to help him once they learned that MEPS has followed proper protocol. Congressional inquiries are only good for if MEPS has violated procedures or discriminated against the individual for reasons irrelevant to the medical or moral enlistment standards. But that is not the case here. It is doubtful that the military will waive his eye condition, sorry.
