Where does our morality come from? How did we, from prehistoric times on, develop a sense of what is the right thing to do? A sense of how to live together? Society seems increasingly polarized. It seems the gap between the values of different groups keep on growing. Fortunately, according to philosopher Hanno Sauer, this is not the case. We all find values as helpfulness, cooperation, respect, honesty, bravery and possession important. Differences in values are mostly due to socioeconomic circumstances, not to different moral ideas. Waar komt onze moraal vandaan? Hoe hebben we vanaf de prehistorie het besef ontwikkeld wat gepast of het goede is en hoe we samen kunnen leven? De samenleving lijkt steeds meer te polariseren. We hebben het idee dat de kloof tussen de waarden van de ene groep en die van de andere steeds maar groeit. Volgens filosoof Hanno Sauer is dat gelukkig helemaal niet zo. We vinden allemaal waarden als hulpvaardigheid, samenwerking, respect, eerlijkheid, dapperheid en bezit belangrijk. Verschillen in waarden zijn vooral toe te schrijven aan sociaal-economische omstandigheden, niet aan uiteenlopende morele ideeën.
