  • This video shows you how to perform the 10 meter mod (how to add 12/10 meter bands) to an Ameritron 811H (and probably Amertitron 811) HF Amplifier.

    you should also get the proper tuning stick and tune the aux port for lowest swr as well after cutting the wire

    Everyone says they can't find the mod on the web, but it's plainly in the manual that comes with the amp and you can download that from the web ! And you don't have to pull the top as you can get to it behind the little removeable panel on the rear.

      I bellieve you are correct, however I bought this used and the manual I found online did not discuss this modification. I don't know if it is newer or older than manuals that do.

    Can you do a video on the " SWR tuning ports on the back". I don't understand why. Would you not just use , say a Palstar tuner ???

    Just curious where do you buy the plastic screwdriver 🪛 to adjust the Aux control. Perhaps a link a specific size? Thank you for this vital info. Definitely going to save..

    @1:37 you say you "put a little flag on it for the 80 meter mod", I'm guessing you meant to say the 10 Meter mod ... Right ?

    Hello Sir , so what exactly does it modify with in the circuit also does it affect the performance ? and finally where did you source the modification from please sorry to ask so many questions
    I'm assuming its the export mod for european countries

    • @WoodyPhillips
      @WoodyPhillips  2 года назад +1

      This modification allows you to use the "Aux" Band switch to amplify the 12 meter and 10 meter bands. The green wire grounds out the coils used to accomplish this. Cutting the green wire simply enables that circuit. I have been told this modification is included in at least one version of the manual. I learned of it from a search for documentation. At that time I did not find any videos or photos so did not know the wire is also accessible via the service cover on the back of the unit.

      It's not actually an export mod, that would be a mod that would only be legal in other countries. There is a regulation in the US that keeps these from being SOLD with the ability to TX on 11 meters. HOWEVER, a licensed amateur in the US can mod this for 10/12 meter operation, which includes 11 meters, and that's legal.
      So... we end up with this mess. It can't do it from the factory from controls on the front and it's not obvious inside so it makes the FCC happy.
      The source of the mod is Ameritron themselves. It's the reason they designed it like this. It has the 10/12 meter input tuning coil built in, complete with a hole in the back to tune it just like the other bands, just this little wire grounds the input when the band switch is set to AUX (10/12 meters). Clip that wire and boom, 10/12 meters, and also 11 meters just because of the way things work.

    I find funny why nobody do the mod removing the tiny rear cover plate with the 4 screws, no need to open the amp

    • @WoodyPhillips
      @WoodyPhillips  5 месяцев назад

      Well, I posted this video because I couldn't find one about it and didn't realise the door was opposite the wire until I had the cover off so maybe that's why?

  • @StegerMatthew

    Has anyone confirmed 100% that this is the same mod for the Ameritron 811 as well? (then the AUX switch position becomes the 10m/12m band selector?)

    • @WoodyPhillips
      @WoodyPhillips  2 месяца назад

      I don't own an 811, only an 811H which is what is shown being modified here. The mod works GREAT by the way.
      According to Google ... "The Ameritron AL-811H is similar to the AL-811, but with four fully neutralized 811A transmitting tubes for 800 watts of power, compared to the AL-811's 600 watts. The AL-811H also has a loud fan, while the AL-811 has a quiet fan. Reviews note that both amplifiers are quiet and easy to tune." If that is the only difference, I would expect it to work, but you are on your own here.
      However, if you do it, come on back and let us know how it turned out! (Fingers crossed.)

      @@WoodyPhillips My question is directed to owners of the 811 NOT the 811H as we know it works for the 811H.
