    I think that if Disney wants to create a Lesbian lead in a movie, they should just make a whole new movie and character up. I love the way Frozen 2 ended without Elsa wanting or needing a love interest. It’s been really refreshing seeing that theme in Frozen, Brave, and Moana and I’d be disappointed to see them suddenly change that. Children don’t really need the romance at young ages.

    I think what's being failed to mention here is that representation comes in all forms. Why can't we talk about the fact that Elsa ALREADY represents women who are uninterested in romance - who are happy being single? It's hard to grow up and become an adult and realize that romance just isn't your thing, especially in such a romance-obsessed world. Elsa is GREAT representation for women like this, and yet people assume she's a lesbian (which there were NO hints at - not even implications) in order to fit the "reality" they want to see it. I agree there should be a lesbian princess, but she needs to have her own special story. Elsa is not it. She's already great representation for women who may feel self-conscious about being single, despite being happy otherwise. Assuming she's a lesbian to fit a narrow narrative squashes all other perspectives and undermines the ability of many people to be cool with being single.

Now when gay ppl ask for rep u want to take it away from them? Also it fits Elsa's story arc perfectly for her to have a romantic love interest in the next movie. she finally accepts herself which means she can accept others in her life romantically

    So... Just because a female character in a Disney movie doesn't have male love interest, the assumption is that she's a lesbian (see the reference to Mulan in the video)? Does every character need a love interest to be complete? I realize that Disney has set their own standard for this going back to Snow White and Cinderella. But must we reinforce the completeness of human value being found in whether or not a person has a romantic love interest? Can't a character just be a strong person without us demanding to know the production company's intent behind their sexuality?

      Ikr? I see a lot of contradiction because the same people that claim that a woman has to be independent and needs no man assume that Elsa is a lesbian just because she is single and wants her to have a gf, why cant she be alone? no man and no woman, it triggers me that they say she needs no man but somehow she needs a gf, like no, she can be alone, she doesnt need a love interest, also it can teach kids that they dont need to have a gif o bf to feel complete or something, the rom love part in the movie is for Anna and Kristoff, for Elsa is selflove

    • @Josh_Stringer
      @Josh_Stringer 4 года назад +5

      I would go so far to say it’s not even self-love. I’m not a huge fan of that term, but that’s another discussion for another day. I put it more along the lines of just being secure in one’s own personhood apart from sexuality. We overvalue and idolize sexuality. Plus, simply put, in Frozen 1 & 2, it’s just not part of the storyline. It’s not the point of the movie so it doesn’t matter.

I really loved that it wasn’t included for Elsa in Frozen 2, or in Moana! It was refreshing, kids don’t need to focus on romance. It’s the only time in life where it has little to no relevance.

    Just because Elsa doesn't have a male love interest doesn't mean she's into women. I support the LGBTQ and all but don't you think all Elsa needs is self-love? If you really dig deep into her character, there are a lot of people who loves her, who looks up to her and the last love she needed to receive from someone to close that final gap in her heart is herself. Take "Show Yourself" as an example, the song was about Elsa trying to find the person she's waited for, the person who is able to answer her unanswered questions and the the part where her mom sings, 'You are the one you've been waiting for" and Elsa replies "All of my life" this lyric resonates so much about self-acceptance and to be able to finally love yourself all these years. Those scars and fears she gained for the past years, turns out that the only person who can fix that was herself.

    As a person who is bi, I personally believe that the idea of her having an interest in women feels kinda forced. I mean if Disney wants that go for it but I'm just saying that if you want an LGBTQ+ character, work from the ground up. Now it doesn't have to be the plot of the story but just give us aspects of their experience throughout the whole story. However, the real reason why I feel it's kinda forced is because it feels like they're just putting it in there so that they don't have people protesting that there isn't one, and how they just want to do it just for the sake of people not getting mad. I'm just speaking from my own opinion so don't attack me for it, plus there is freedom of speech, so legally I can say this.

      In my opinion, I think Elsa is far off better being single. Not saying that she doesn't deserve love but saying that Elsa's whole character development is about self love and self acceptance. I think giving her a love interest regardless of gender would ruin her iconic character. I fully respect LGBTQ+ cause I am one of them, and I think Elsa is a queer at this point, which means Q in the LGBTQ+ society. She just isn't interested to be in a relationship and is unsure of her gender. Yes I do think there should be more shows that should tell the audiences that its okay to be gay or bisexual or transgender or etc. but I think there should also be more shows that represents self respect and learning to overcome your insecurities as a person and just learn to love yourself for who you are and I think Elsa is the best representation of that. I'd be excited to see Disney pull off an gay princess but I just don't think Elsa is cut out for that role, if she does get a love interest (again, regardless of gender) that doesn't give her justice. She's just going to be another Anna. From my point of view, Elsa never gave me lesbian vibes though, she was just trying to fit in the world and the only person who she could open up to was Anna at first at least. Then she learned to love and accept more people in her life but to really fix the scars and trauma she got from her past was accepting love from herself. What I think Frozen 2 was trying to sell wasn't to tease fans that Elsa is going to get a love interest in the sequel but about self discovery and self esteem. I'll admit that I've been a Jelsa shipper since 2013 but I do respect the Elsamaren shippers out there but after watching Frozen 2 it made me realise that the only partner Elsa needed in her life was herself.

Rather kids will learn that this is a character that they love who just happens to be gay. And it's absolutely fine. Disney has been such a huge part of our childhood. I am really sick of the race/gender/sexual orientation swapping trend in the film industry

    • @ipshita154
      @ipshita154 4 года назад +6

      I totally agree that we shouldn't assume these characters' sexuality when they are shown as straight in the movies. The thing is Disney has about 200 movies with zero important characters in the sexuality/gender spectrum. Almost 4.5% of the world population (which is more than 300 million people) are out and visible lgbt+ and there are millions of people living in the closet all around the world. So 200 Disney films should've had a queer character. Now I also agree that I would be great if they would just make a new princess who is gay. But we don't see Disney working on that. So we look for representation wherever we can. It's not ideal and we know it. I don't get why you think that Elsa being gay will 'ruin' her character. Other princesses fall in love with guys and beasts and frogs, and you think two women falling in love will ruin character? The existing characters around you, your family members, friends who you've know for years, some of them are lgbt+, whether they told you or not. No one 'forcefully makes them gay', they just are.

    • @ad4029
      @ad4029 4 года назад +1

      Ipshita 4.5% is actually a U.S. percentage, not the “world population” percentage. And there are a lot more than 300 million people in the world. You might want to check your numbers before writing them as facts. Lol. I’m cringing.
      The problem with that is it just recently became legal & socially acceptable (to some people- not everyone in the world) to identify as lgbtq. The percentages have also grown since its become accepted. So to say that all those movies should’ve included an lgbtq character is ridiculous considering people would’ve protested it.

Forcing her to be gay would just mean retconning her whole character so far.
      She's ok by herself. Gay princesses can definitely exist and be a thing, but they should also show romantic interest in other women. Not just be lesbians because they maybe don't care for being paired up with men. Actually, if I was a lesbian I'd take that as an insult. A lesbian character is going to be pining and wanting to be in a romantic relationship with another woman. They're not going to reject romantic expectations over and over and say explicitly "I'm the one I was waiting for because nobody else was able to fullfill my most primary emotional needs, because nobody else can - no matter how hard they may try". They have a good thing so why change it anyways? It’s not very kind to call people disgusting though. You can disagree without insulting, we are all human beings. This is what’s wrong with today’s world in a nutshell. People on here calling people “homophobic” on one side and then calling gays “disgusting” on another side 🤦🏼‍♀️

    • @ad4029

      cat lover
      it actually is rude, it’s name calling. Who are you to decide how people feel about being labeled?? People do take offense to that, just like they would being called disgusting.
      If someone called you heterophobic or acephobic because you can’t handle a straight or ace Elsa you’d probably think they were annoying too.
      PS “homophobia” doesn’t really exist. It’s a made up term to divide people: Not many people are truly “afraid” of gays. That’s absurd. Treat everyone the same, even if you don’t agree with them. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and not everyone has to agree. If the lgbtq movement isn’t someone’s cup of tea, suck it up and don’t label them.
      I have 4 children myself, and if you didn’t agree with having that many kids and even didn’t like kids, I wouldn’t call you “pedophobic” (that’s a real word btw- lol), I just wouldn’t care and keep going with my life with my 4 kids. Labeling is stupid and dividing. Maybe if we all didn’t label each other and realize that we can all have different beliefs the world wouldn’t have such disgusting division.
