I've been on this beard journey for over 2 years. My last beard was in the "80's" and to be honest I didn't have a clue how to care for my beard properly. I have been watching you, DanC for 2 years now. With a wealth of knowledge and the beard to prove it, you better believe I have trusted his guidelines. I have a healthy, happy beard...it takes work, everyday the same routine. Thanks again Dan, I won't be using Jack Black products, but for sharing your knowledge. 😊

I’ve been seeing this beard oil lots on Amazon but I am very happy that I found this video because I do not want to be using a crappy beard oil, in Canada Amazon is asking $35 for the jack black beard oil , that is way too expensive.
I just purchased honest Amish a few days ago and once I finish my current beard oil, I will start trying honest Amish. I agree that silicone should not ever be in Beard Oil.
Just purchased grave before shave, beard wash, it came today will definitely be throwing my every man jack beard wash in the garbage if it works well for me, I’ve heard positive reviews about grave before shave beard wash.

I live in a remote area, and products are slim. I was coming out of my using head hair shampoo and conditioner phase mostly because my beard texture was changing to dry and crispy after graduating from business beard to medium beard. The prolonged use of head hair washes and conditioners had taken their toll, and oil alone wasn’t going to fix the feeling anymore. I watched Dan C’s video where he mentions the 3 different landscapes on your head and challenges you to go without washing for a couple weeks and I had that ah-ha! moment. (Without having to put myself or the people around me through the unpleasant experience of me not showering for a couple weeks. Lol!) Even just going through a very active day I can feel the head hair become oily and the shorter beard become dry, and brittle feeling. I knew I had to switch up how I clean and condition my beard IMMEDIATELY, but the only places to possibly buy beard products in my area are Walmart, Belk, Ulta, CVS, Walgreens, and maybe Sally’s? (Sally’s was closed by the time I tried to see what products they had.) I called Ulta and they said they carried a couple lines of products and Jack Black had a wash and/or conditioner so I went and checked it out. Nothing I seen by them or any other mens grooming products stood out to me as something I was willing to spend money on just to improve the feeling and condition of my now medium length beard. I believe this was one of the moments I was listening to my beard, and it was saying “I do not feel well, but that stuff is not going to make me feel any better.” Dan C has already recommended a bunch of products I could try, I would just have to wait for them to come in the mail and hope my beard doesn’t jump off my face and run away from me because it hates me for how I have been treating it. Fortunately Belk does sell Duke Cannon products and Dan C recommended the beard wash so I at least had a way to clean it without killing it, and just use a little extra oil till my new quality daily wash and conditioner shows up from Beard Octane, and Detroit Grooming. (With some butter to attempt to attempt repair the effects I had caused over the last year or so, since I had learned from the trusted teacher how butter benefits his beard using it at night.) Since I have received these beard products and have been using them daily, I have a ton more better feeling beard days, a much happier beard, especially starting to play around using heat a little. Thank you SOOOO much Dan for sharing your positivity, passion and knowledge with the world and making happier people and beards across the globe!

I gotta tell you, I read the ingredients carefully too and watch that stuff but I kinda appreciate using Jack Black Beard oil occasionally when trying to keep in the moisture on those weird humid frizzy beard days here in S Fla. Seems it’s got to be at the right time and just a little is what sometimes works well on the tips or ends to prevent splitting and super dry ends. Sometime I use mink, emu, hemp,E ,etc also. So, if and when you know how to use the JBlack oil, it could be ok for some people. I just never over do it and that goes with anything as I usually try to be a little more conservative and allow good things to happen. I might have mentioned, I think I found the holy grail for me with your CDB Fable Honey Apple Creator line. Although, I rotate with other quality products to get their benefits on different days and for different reasons, I feel I can always get a lot of expected control and possible repair falling back into the Creator savior when desperate or when needing a solid day with more than satisfactory results. For me works great, so good job, excellent product! I’ll be coming up on a yeard in July and my beard is now 8,9 inches and filling in nicely. Looking for more of that gravitational pull. My biggest dilemma is trying to keep the beard from drying out from wind. Thanks for your tips and tricks. Keep up the positivity, defending what’s right and the enthusiasm for what you do best.

This just goes to show that not all the more expensive products are supposed to be considered better than the cheaper ones. It's all about money for these kinds of companies. They slap a label on a nice looking bottle, they try to trap people into buying their products thinking that everyone are oblivious about what they are actually paying for and expecting from the product. Thanks for this review Dan, because I was thinking of buying this months ago and it's a good thing I didn't buy it now that I'm seeing what it does to a beard.

    Hey, Dan. Great video.
First off, I sincerely appreciate your candidness in all of your content, especially when magnifying some of the more premier brands like Jack Black. I'm actually a fan of a few Jack Black products, but you must be diligent when browsing their selection due to less-than-ideal formulas as you mentioned, which is a huge bummer because I like knowing I can implicitly trust an entire line without carrying suspicion. For those reasons I have avoided trying their beard oil.
I also appreciate how thorough your reviews are as well as your dedicated educational videos because, as an analytical chemist, I feel that is truly the most beneficial material to offer the public while promoting awareness and smarter shopping. So, mad props for that. Although simple reviews of how something feels/smells/etc. are nice, they're also inherently subjective so thanks for including the nerdy stuff.
Lastly, I'm curious if you're familiar with another premier men's grooming brand, Brickell. They're also on the pricey side, but their formulas are wholesome and impressive to say the least. I've tried most of their products and use several on a regular basis, including their beard oil. So I was just curious if you’ve heard of them or tried their beard oil or anything else and what your thoughts were if so.
Thanks again for your hard work and quality content. Keep it up.

I used to use viking revolution pretty heavily and they are a budget friendly and good alternative. Nothing outstanding from them, but it's a very basic product that does what you need it to do. If I remember correctly their oil blend is like only 2 oils (argon and jojoba) with basic scents. Thanks for the review and heads up. Jack Black lost me at $26 for one ounce, much better pricing and products out there from direct from site companies.

I've done Naked and Honest Amish in the past, a few others. Personally felt they were awful for a shorter beard, but good for a longer beard like yours. I keep mine under 3 inches and this beard oil actually works a lot better for me - especially with sensitive skin. My dermatologist told me to go with leave in conditioner instead of beard oil, and that beard oil is actually super hard on your skin - especially stuff like Honest Amish. I honestly condition my facial hair as a dandruff/psoriasis preventative more than anything else. I've always found actual high quality hair conditioner and shampoo to be much better for my actual beard hair.
I think like just about everything else in beauty care, this stuff is really down to personal preference - and if you're just sticking to one product without ever really exploring your options, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. I certainly wouldn't be going to this beard oil off the bat, and plan to explore other premium beard oils that preferably have ingredients that work for me without the price hike for the name on the box.

I got this in a gift pack for Christmas a few years back. I was new to beard products, and I think had been using Grave Before Shave at the time. My impression of the Jack Black was that it just seemed really generic. Scent was kind of like a drug store body wash or hair product. Not unpleasant but not very interesting. I didn't know enough at the time to put my finger on it but thought it made my beard just feel "off", and now know it was definitely the silicone. They make good hair and body products, but big pass on the beard products.
Side note: I also have long hair (slightly past shoulders) and am not a fan of hair products with silicone either.

I personally loved the pump top, to the point I've purchased pump tops from Bahawat to replace all my dropper tops. I actually really liked the feel of the Jack Black oil as well, almost like a jelly-like substance and it made my beard feel good to the touch. It glided through the beard really nice. After learning more about quality beard oils and ingredients and looking into theirs, I ultimately decided to just cut them out. Didnt want something mostly silicone that was just going to coat hair vs a proper oil that would actually nourish the skin and hair.

Beard oil is for the skin underneath the beard AND it is for the beard hairs themselves as well. I explain in this video: ruclips.net/video/tdwsacmeOaw/видео.html
That’s why people with longer beards use more oil. They don’t have more skin lol more hair. Also, whatever is bad for the skin under your beard is bad for the hair. The hair grows from the skin. It’s all related.
