I love this song it's my favourite song and I'm not even a teenager yet my family love old traditional music and I grew up with it and I've loved it since
Anyone else notice that the “courting married women bright and early in the morning” got changed? One thing I truly love about this song are the variations: from Jerry Garcia’s, to Thin Lizzy, Brothers Four to some weird ultra metal version too stumbled across (and it was bad…. But home made effort). Always loved Garcia’s version, to my knowledge that is the only version where the Highwayman goes free (besides Brothers four, in which they go to Killgera (sp?) mountain to await Col. Ferral * So edit here, I'd forgotten about the Seeker's version. I'm not certain which came first, since they were released close to each other, but I think Seekers did, since Garcia's version seems like an expanded version of the tale. Anyone who happens to actually read this, who might know any other "expanded" versions, or alternate lyrics, please mention them in a reply. WITJ is probably my favorite song of all time, and I love finding those little (well made) gems that have slightly different stories.
Wheres the Rest of the song?? They put me in to prison with the judge all a counting, robbing Col. Ferrel on Gilgorra mountain They didn't take my fists, So I knocked the jailer down, and said fair thee well to this tight fisted town.

Love it! Never heard that verse before :)
The original fight song!
The Dubliners version is good but this one surpasses it by far.
My opinion. The tin whistle is phenomenal
I need the claps after ' Mush ring dummo do dumm da' so I add them myself. Haven't found one with the claps outside of Darby O'Gill on Pamdora.
Which is weird, because EVERY time I've heard this played live the claps have always been there! Same as Wild Rover. Just not the same without!
holy shit that tin whistle
Sounds like we'll fight for Uncle Sam
That's an Irish way to say boys and girls
I'm Irish laddys and lasses
Niamhheart Lover lads is more common than laddies

Are you sure this is the Irish Rovers? It sounds very different from what was on the 50th Anniversary CD.
You're right! It's from "Several Blasts".
