other people: pretend to be a pilot for the attention
Kelsey: pretends to be other people for access to the snacks.
The man has his priorities straight.
He’s pilot royalty now, id say free snacks wherever he goes.
What a cheap bastard!
I'd buy him lunch.
True 😂
Seems like Kelsy's whole life mission is to fly around and try to get free breakfast
I can understand that, although I don’t get to do it via business class. 😂😂😂
Life goals.
Why else would you become a pilot 🤫
Riveting Content (I’m watching)
Every Pilot and Cabin crew member ive ever known through laker airways, Dan-Air, and Virgin Atlantic, want something free, beit food or alcohol
I love how your optimism is always accompanied by doubt. I call that realistic.
Also, doubts are accompanied by optimism, so it all balances out.
I think it's the ginger Irish in him!
That's the experience coming through I'd say.
Kelsey seems like a chill dude. “Drag racing these carts through the airport if it was up to me” -Kelsey
I absolutely love how all your plans revolve around the free food available.
Saves up his per diem
It's not an "official" 74Gear video unless Kelsey is talking about free food❣😄
@@notme2day hey brother u gonna sniff it?
Food is important.
Every wonder why he is so thin? He is a pilot, no money. If he misses a free meal he starves.
Holding a phone to your ear so you don't seem like a crazy person talking to yourself was amazing lol
That was the joke when Giuliani was mayor of NYC: that he'd give a dummy phone to all the homeless so the 'quality of life' would improve in the city.
Meanwhile he has video recording equipment several feet in front of him as evidenced by the guy who passed between him and equipment making the fake phone call look totally legit.lolol
@@notme2day just has it hiding under his bag in the other seat probably.
A joke my Dad's been making since the first generation of cellphones came out.
...ive been doing this...and have a dead bluetooth earpiece/mic....for years and years...but I AM crazy and talk to myself all the time so, I kinda have to....but it works...people just glance at you and assume you are talking to somebody on the phone and leave you alone....bloody brilliant!!!
Only Kelsey can make a video on cancelled flights entertaining
That video reinforces my impression that Kelsey has a quite hard and rather unglamorous life. Staying cool, dealing with the boredom and then being on top form to fly a plane. That is tough.
Yeah. There’s a lot of things I could never do for reasons of stamina like that
I find airports among the most dehumanizing places to have to hang out for anyone not incarcerated. I had a 12-hour layover in Hong Kong in 2018, before the CCP turned the city into a municipal political concentration camp. Even then, it was a vast wasteland of luxury shops, where convenience shops, ATMs, and reasonable restaurants and bars were few and far between. The only upside was all the walking exercise I got before my 15-hour-flight.
-- Anyone who hasn't seen the Tom Hanks movie "The Terminal" should see it.
"great job, terrible career" is often how I see people refer to being a pilot. Constant shift work, weekend work, sleeping out of hotels half your life, the constant boredom while having to be at your best when needed. I don't think there'd be any jobs that offer the same stunning views that being a pilot offers, but everything else about it sounds rough.
@@grizzlygrizzleso you’ve never actually been to Hong Kong…
@@kayzeaza I was talking about the airport. It was a 12-hour layover, not 12 days.
Kelsey’s a pilot wearing pilot’s uniform and puts on a pilot jacket to hide that he’s a pilot. Very meta.
……and somewhere off in the distance, a church bell rang.
@@spaz-tech 👍
Meanwhile he's getting more famous and people are starting to recognize him anyway 😂
*I was flying back from Vegas on Frontier, after never ever having a problem with them before and also none after.. and my flight got delayed by 30 minutes..*
Then it was 1 hour.
Then 2.
Then 4.
Then 6.
So after keeping us there with repeated delays, even though they knew it was going to take a long time from the beginning, they cancelled the flight.
*They then said next available was TWO DAYS later. After keeping us all in the airport from 6 or 7pm to 12 or 1am.*
*THIS WAS FOR A 45 MINUTE FLIGHT FROM LAS TO SAN*
I had to cry and complain to several people and they finally got me on a flight, and they gave me a flight the next day at 7am.
Then I had to try and stay awake/get minimal shuteye with my phone alarm on max resting on my shoulder. (When I'm sleep deprived I can and have slept through earthquakes lol.. some of them not even sleep deprived, like the 1994 huge earthquake)
They offered 300 towards other ways home, but there were literally none available. Uber wouldn't take a 4.5hr drive (I don't blame em) and you couldn't go 2 hrs and get another uber for 2 hrs because the city 2hrs away wouldn't have ubers.
There was literally no way home. They would not pay for a hotel.
It was during the WSOP so many were booked and the rest were high priced, and I'd already been in Vegas so long I didn't want to stay longer and staying longer was financially bad.
I don't think airlines should be allowed to get away with repeatedly delaying a flight even though they know it's not going to fly when they claim it is.
I also believe if they stand you somewhere for 2 days they should have to pay for lodging.
Quite a screwed up system we are allowing these airlines to get away with. It's literally horrible that they're allowed to do what they do simply to save themselves SOME money.
Too long. I didn't read
Kelsey's flight vlogs have gotten better and better and better quality lately. Keep up the great work sir.
We need for of this kind of content… more engaging
I came here to say this. I fkn loved this one, Kelsey, you seem like you'd be a fuckin' hoot to hang with.
That Doy One shot was great.
Totally agree 👍😊
I think your budget changes when you hit 1M
I know it's been said, but this editing is first class! Absolutely awesome transitions, graphics, all of it. Props to your editor!
Agree
I couldn’t agree more. Does RUclips do awards??? well done!!!
One nice thing about being a pilot is that passengers are always happy to see you. The gate agents really take the worst of the sh!t from passengers.
Yeah, passengers often acted like it’s the gate agent’s fault their flight is delayed or canceled.
Its called 'collective responsibility'. They are the face of the airline, and how an airline trains these people to deal with the public when things go wrong and tempers get frayed, often makes the difference between good and bad airlines. However, clear abuse is not tolerable. Its a responsible job, but if they're not up to it, then there are less stressful jobs out there that come with correspondingly less pay................
The gate agents are demigods always treat them nicely.
Comes with the territory. Passengers who get delayed or cancelled, then mistreated or ignored, don't have the CEO or any other suits responsible for the airline's uncaring policies there to confront. They only have the gate agents, who are authorized agents of the airline, and should know the "sh!t" is not aimed at them personally, but at their employer. It takes a certain personality to be successful and remain sane at those jobs.
And so they should! They excrete a film of "I don't give a shit" all over you when flights are canceled. They simply so not care if you get fired or miss your kids birth. They will all be in one circle of hell or another at the end.
Excellence in editing. This turned a relatively normal and certainly mundane situation into a riveting drama.
Agreed, this video has some big independent movie vibes
Agreed! Kelsey said he got himself an editor, a lot of youtubers have professional editors now, and they're doing great jobs! I love how these videos have their own narrative language that's different from TV or film, it's intimate and playful, yet honest in how functional it can be.
Indeed, I liked the background tunes, the quick clips seamless bonded, very 'professional'. Well done Mr. Kelsey, or whoever you hired. I usually like the "day in the life" vids, details we don't normally see. (I wondered where pilots go when we're standing around waiting at gates, in lounges). I trust pilots are paid for sitting around airports waiting? (I heard flight attendants are ONLY paid when plane doors close, which seems pretty unfair).
6:24 don’t forget the small things like the shadows under the letters really make it pop
Shadows are cool, but the shadow at 6:24 is the wrong way around. 😛 That just hits my eye so hard. 🙈 But still a nice video.
I have to assume you’re a good pilot. If you aren’t you are certainly a good storyteller and filmmaker. I’m not sure most people can appreciate how difficult it is for one guy to film, star in, write and execute a compelling short about a delayed flight and it being watchable and even interesting. Bravo and keep it up.
a check ride and a 1st class physical every 6 months assures pilots are well and safe. plus staying up to date on the newest FAR’s.
Kelsey does an amazing job. I believe he has a video editor helping to make it look even better.
He has someone producing videos, dear. Said so last year when he was looking for someone. PAY ATTENTION. Further, you “assume” he’s a pilot. My God, you must have n IQ of 5. I assume, with a great degree of certainty, your an accomplished abusive internet commenter. One of those who simply can’t muster the energy to say something positive WITHOUT A BULLET TO FOLLOW IT UP.
I'll bet his strong story-telling skills also make him good company on the bridge.
Kelsy in my head is a movie star. This is my script:
"In a world where adventure knows no boundaries, and wallets are left empty, comes a story that will take you on a wild, high-flying ride.
He's a pilot with a plan...to never pay for anything! Captain Kelsy will outwit, outfly, and outmaneuver every obstacle in his path...
He'll dine in the finest restaurants, sleep in luxurious hotels, and travel in style
...all without spending a dime!
Get ready for a rollercoaster of laughter, suspense, and the wildest adventure of them all!
From dodging paying for food...
or haggling with skydivers for free parachutes...
befriending airport staff to score free lounge access
...and even using his cockpit as a hotel room...
Kelsy will stop at nothing to avoid spending a single cent!
Kelsy must outwit, outmaneuver, and outcheap his way to freedom!
Will Kelsy ever learn the value of a dollar? Or will his thrifty antics lead to the adventure of a lifetime?
Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a frugal and fantastic flight as One pilot's penny-pinching ways will leave him flying solo in more ways than one.
Dude, Where's My Coupon? - Coming to a "74 Crew" house sometime this summer (Subject to crew rest area availability)
I only discovered this channel about a week ago ana I've been binge watching it ever since. Kelsey is so entertaining to watch, seems like one of life's true "nice guys". Awesome channel
A passenger pretending to be a pilot pretending to be a passenger, with James Garner and Julie Andrews. 10 stars.
I don’t get why he does that only to change when on the plane into regular clothes
@@M_SC
I would say that it most probably makes it easier to get through an airport in such an official uniform, but of course, he is a pilot and letting people know is part of the career requirement.
@@M_SC
To get through security faster.
Speaking of snacks and food. I've been on a lot of delayed/cancelled flights, but the most memorable one was a JetB flight from New Orleans to Boston. We were into a +4 hour delay, due to high winds/weather all across the East Coast, when an announcement was made that the Captain and Crew had ordered Pizza for everyone. The best delayed flight ever. Always made a point to get my flights booked on JetB.
That's so awesome
Woah! God bless him!
JetBlue never disappoints me
JetBlue is a proper airline. It's a shame all the other American carriers don't follow their lead.
@@Hrrjkf821omg my dad flies at american and if there’s significant delays he does this for the pax! Btw usually pilots pay and have to get reimbursed later by the company
Thanks a lot for taking us with you! It just shows how crazy much time you pilots spend NOT flying!
Is this supposed to be good or bad?
I love traveling with Kelsey, Thank you for these videos. 💙
@@imnotagamer5327 Good question actually! I guess neither, was just interesting to see as someone completely unaware of that side of their job.
There is worse - astronauts do spend how much of their work time in space?
@@stefanschneider3681Too bad they can’t really spend it with family.. More like in airport hotels or anywhere in the same city
Man, being a pilot has to be one of the greatest careers of all time. The experiences you've been through in your lifetime is something that many people can only dream of.
Thanks for taking us along.
This led me to think, if Mr Titanic sub guy, Stockton Rush claims to be a pilot at 18, why don’t he stick to his job - I found that claims that he was a pilot hard to believe
You know Kelsy gets nightmares about not getting free breakfast.
The glorious life of an airline pilot. Thanks Kelsey for giving us a peek of a day in your professional life.
The bit about the pilots quickly absenting themselves from the gate area as soon as they know was funny.
and good to know for future reference as a passenger still in the unknown.
Kelsey, I've had a more difficult past few weeks than anyone cares to know. And your wholesomeness in this video really helped my shift perspective out of it. We're all just chasing the next free meal, aren't we :) Thank you. I oddly needed this random vlog about mainly nuance.
hope you're doing better now!
@@laetitiaklinkhammer192 indeed thanks :)
My funniest "this flight isn't going anywhere realization" as a passenger, is when a AME walked down the isle of the plane toward the back. I heard a bunch of banging and wrenching sounds, then the AME walked back down the isle with this metalic component tbat was about the size of a basketball (and that had wires coming out of it in a manner that resembled the greek goddess hydra). The person sitting next to me and I looked at each other and simultanously uttered a expletive. Moments later the pilot said we'd be deplaning.
"simultaneously uttered a [sic] expletive" . . . probably along the lines of "Oh, sh__", which is the most common phrase found near the end of a flight recorder's recording from a plane that went down.
This is a food blog masquerading as an aviation channel
Love it. Why is he not fat?? 3 plates??

@@philipzanonihe walks around like all day, he also works out at the hotels, and he’s like 6 feet tall 💀😭
It’s pretty impressive how high of a quality these videos are getting. The intro of this video reminds me of me of a television show.
The editing work has seriously blown me away from your older vids, you certainly found the right person!
Man, the production value on this video feels like it has gone through the roof! Really fun to watch all the great editing.
8:39 Woah that transition!!! Someones been learning about film making!👍
This editing just got insane!!! I love these vids!
Kelsey talking on his phone while recording so people don't think he's talking to himself. You're at your peak, sir.
Production value and editing has gotten really good the last few years! Would love to see more behind the scenes day-to-day pilot stuff like this.
I really enjoyed this one, Kelsey. Three days in the life. It's great that you had time for a selfie with a fan. I'd definitely watch more of these. Thanks for sharing.
I loved this; your determination to hunt down snacks in the worst circumstances is awesome. :D I thoroughly enjoy your videos.
The quick-change disguises and the fake conversation on a cell phone are absolutely hilarious! Love the inside look behind the scenes.
This is actually my fav video you’ve made because it provides a glimpse into the lifestyle and day to day responsibilities of a pilot! Super cool to get a glimpse at pilot culture! Thanks for making this video!
Thank you for the behind the scenes look here. Interesting to see you as the pilot are left in as much of the dark as the passengers in this situation. Especially if after that you wouldn't get your room/expenses covered. You handled that much better than me 😅
Hey 74 I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing videos that you produce. You’ve inspired me to become a pilot myself and I plan on going full commercial! Keep on it!✌️
In my case, he's inspired me to eat in airline lounges. 😁
Great video. Way to capture the footage incognito and the editing really put it together. Great pacing.
It seems your editing keeps getting better and better, congrats for the amazing skills Kelsey! Chapeau!!!
you seem more relaxed making these videos and the quality of the videos are way better. Your videos are getting more and more interesting. Good job!
Kelsey consumes all the "snacks" he can find and maintains his trim physique by walking miles through airport terminals. Love the transformation from pilot to regular passenger--makes me think of Superman to Clark Kent--lol. Great vid!
Editing/filming even sounds/music sooooo good!! Free Breakfast is the Comic Relief!!!
8:17 Kelsey is definitely envisioning an "Airplane!" scenario wherein he has to land that 787.
In his honor, I will flip through the latest issue of Nun's Life and sniff some glue.
Kelsey, you’re now a minor celebrity. That means that you will now cause a minor stir once you’re recognized!! Good for you my man! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Dude, that transition shot going into from your starting airport to Chile was one of the coolest things I've seen lately. And this whole blog was like that. Keep up the good work. These are a fun watch.
Kelsey this video is a cut above your already excellent average. Storytelling and editing are superb!
This is really great editing, well done to who ever does it from Pete in the UK.
We lowly regular passengers forget right right crews get delayed and cancelled the same as everyone. Thanks for another great video
Three minute into the video I am laughing. The quest for free food is more of an adventure than the flights. Way to go Kelsey! 😂
Excellent video Kelsey, both story and cinematography. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it. All the best
Great job on the video! I'm very impressed with the editing and the cinematography - production value out the wazoo. Thanks!
I love my Sunday mornings with Kelsey :)
Loved the guy who jumped in the elevator for a selfie! Sadly, I think my odds of bumping into you in an airport are pretty low - I don't see a lot of 747s at Canadian regional airports, haha.
Get up to Anchorage!
@@maryeckel9682 I was there in May for work! Definitely spent a couple evenings hanging out at the end of the runway.
Remember Kelesy pilots more than mainly freighter 747s.

The editing on this one was top notch, the voice over, the transitions, the general flow. It was very engaging and entertaining to follow along with you!
Love the novel style of your video. Please do more of these kind of videos. Or at least make a couple more of these. So cool.
This was a very well done video. I loved it. Interesting life of a pilot.
Hey Kelsey. Love these videos. I'm just finishing my A&P and considering working on an ATP in the future. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Also... The fan selfie in the elevator... that's pretty dope. That must feel good.
Kelsey, really enjoy your programing, not a bad post yet.
A mulligan is a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder. Its best-known use is in golf.
Production of this video is very, very good. It's obvious you put a lot of work into it.. well done!
That was fascinating. A window into the "normal" bits of your job is much more interesting than an engine falling off mid-flight. We can go anywhere on RUclips for that kind of drama. More of this please 👍🙂
I second that.
You are showing that pilots go through the same stress as the passengers? That is commendable. It isn't just the overly entitled Karens and Devins that get inconvenienced. Love it!
Karen’s? Devins? Please, please whoever you are, don’t spread these stereotypes.
@@marylut6077devin isn’t a stereotype. Karen is. For good reason.
Kelsey!! loving the music interludes!! second day, music: BOOM CHICKA BOOM BOOM!! love it
My dad worked for Piedmont Airlines. We used to fly "Space Available" all the time. An unscheduled overnight stay was a risk. We usually spent it in the airport.
Same in military. Colonels would bump you off the next destination and you'd wait for the next space A... It took me 3 days to get to San Diego from New Jersey. I ended up driving with a fighter pilot in a Toyota in torrential rain after midnight in Indiana to st Louis airport to catch a commercial flight on TWA for 300$. I didn't save anything. What a trip.
it's 1AM, and I can't sleep. Somehow I cannot stop watching this video. I need more of these.
Thank you for a little insight into your life. Sadly, it is similar to our pain and tribulation when we fly. Ridiculously long security lines, Flights delayed, gates moved, and the flight possibly canceled adding international issues makes modern travel a real pain.
I fly more than you do but I don't whine, whine whine. Good grief. Life is an inconvenience even at the doctor's office. Be grateful for something...ANYTHING.
No destination justifies any of this for me. News broadcasts with hundreds of people lying on the floor in airports tell me my choice of not flying is sensible.
One of my flights last year got cancelled because the plane had a mechanical issue. I wasn't frustrated about it. Instead, I was happy United Airlines put the safety of us passengers above profits. A cancelled flight is better than a plane crash. A slight inconvenience is a better option than your family planning your funeral.
@@hamsterama Yes, a trip permanently canceled by a crash is terrible. But travelers need to absorb the reality that pieces in the planes they are boarding are likely in imperfect condition. We all know our used cars have parts replacement in their future. But cars remain on terra firma. Planes seem to need to go above 30,000 feet. A part that reaches its limit that high is a source of great danger. And planes run out of fuel, start generating fumes, a long list of things. On the ground, a lot of these involved pulling out of traffic, calling a tow truck. No tow trucks in the sky. Best case scenario is a canceled takeoff.
@@JimMork you're quite an optimist. Did you know that each year in the USA alone 12.000 people die from falling from a stair? Think of that while you use a stair.
I have literally experienced every single pain point and emotion shown in this video.
Kelsey, you nailed it - empathy kicked in and all those emotions came back to me, from the meals in the lounge, to the waiting game, to “reading the status” and thinking through the probabilities (vs what you’re being told), I felt all of it again as well as the anxiety.
Excellent video !
Love the editing with the music.. mainly the scary theme when living the lounge 😂😂😂😂 hilarious
Excellent vlog, very well edited. Good commentary, etc. Excellent, Kelsey.
A few years ago I was flying from Great Falls to Tampa, with connecting flights in Minneapolis and Houston. The flight out of MT was delayed due to snow removal. The flight out of MN was delayed due to maintenance. By now we are three hours late. The flight out of TX was also delayed due to more maintenance. So even with all the delays, I still made it back to Tampa.
You tourists beat the hell out of all those planes. My car doesn't see a mechanic that often.
This is so much frickin’ fun! Just like the other ‘Big Reveal’ about the glamor and high drama of a long haul 747 Heavy pilot! Man, the editing and music is terrific. More please!
Love the video's keep'em coming. I flew with Delta just last month and one of our plane was delayed and they used the "its coming for the hanger Excuse" lol we were delayed like 2 hours so not as bad as yours but it was a close one for me because I had a memorial for my father planned for the next day that I arranged and was paying for the catering etc. and had 70+ people coming and if the plane was delayed anymore I would have missed my last flight and would have been a day late and it would have messed up everything, however we made it to the last plane right be fore they closed the doors (had to run though) so all was good and we had a great memorial.
Great to see you deal with delays, too! You always have a nice attitude with life!
What a great video! It was suspenseful, he stepped into the back rooms and made it out, he had fans recognize him, and there convicts in the plane? This ad it all!
Yep your vlogs are kinda epic for aviation enthusiast. Love your editing style. Always fun to watch
Love Kelsey. As genuine as they come.

This was such an epic journey in video form, as frustrating as it must've been. Even met a fan!!
Wow! Amazing insight into the life of a cargo pilot! There are some good perks but boy, you have to be flexible! Most people wouldn't be chill enough to handle the lifestyle.
Your Vlog transitions are really amazing, Kelsey. They are thought out as you film and not just done by the editor. Great format!!
Supremely entertaining video! One of my favorite Kelsey videos.

Kelsey, without a doubt, that was enjoyable from beginning to end; rhe commentary, video, music, everything! Keep up the great work!
i adore the editing and production of your videos lately; they'be all been amazing! sidenote: if you can fly a 748, you can absolutely fly the 787
Well done by Kelsy to show the trials & tribulations of a season pilot. This jaunt was a seeming nightmare made a bit better with some help (thanks Veronica) & some good (free!) meals. The important work Kelsy does wasn't in the video, yet was still highly entertaining! Best wishes to him & thanks for letting 'us' tag along..
Wow. Sir, your videos are amazing. I love planes and when i was young i wanted to be a flight attendant, but i am 1.58 (in meters of course, im Mexican) and couldn't make it. You are so good at telling us what’s going on! For sure you’re life isn’t boring! Love your videos
This was one of your best videos. Great job.
I have had the experience of transporting a prisoner on a aircraft while in the military. Completely different logistics but interesting and a couple perks. Our first flight was delayed getting into Dallas-Ft Worth so the airport police gave us a ride from the first airplane right to the desk of the second flight, then more paperwork, and off we went to home base then a trip to the stockade for the young man. Never heard the outcome of his court-martial.

You just made me smile a lot rare in these times. Thank you sir and safe flying.
That F.O.'s uniform certainly does smooth the way through airports. A personal escort through the terminal, and even admiring passengers snapping pictures of you.
The business class lounge is a whole other story, though.
