If you want an explanation about Rei's "artificiality", it involves HEAVY spoilers. Spoiler-free explanation: She's your typical emotionless anime girl who opens up over the course of the series.
If I recall, the head pieces are part of the suit. It enables the pilot to synch up with their Eva more easily as well as let's the CO's and Navigators keep a watch on their vitals amd synch rates - usually the more synched up they are with their Evas, the faster they can react in combat, but also they are also susceptible to experiencing the pain of the battle damage i.e. if the Eva gets impaled, if the pilot is fully synched, they will feel the pain of the attack. Also, I think the names are just part of how Evangelion sometimes names it's weapons or gear like how an A.T. Field stands for "Absolute Terror" Field, and it's basically a barrier that can only be cancelled out by another A.T. Field, hence why only EVAs - which are the mechs of the show - are the only things that can fight the Angels aka the monsters they fight in their universe. As for her "artificiality", while it is spoiler, the most I can say is that "she has a purpose: to be a Pilot, and she will die for said purpose", but thanks to Shinji - the main protagonist - she ends up breaking the facade and becoming more human so to speak. The girls in this show are all humans, but they stand out because they are the only ones who can pilot the EVAs due to an event that basically turned every child born after said event be the only candidates/compatible with piloting the EVA Units. So for the most part, they are trained soldiers, but with emotional baggage.
She actually doesn’t really talk to much, for various reasons. Watch the renewal show or the last few movies 100% recommended. Action adventure, comedy,drama, sci fi, psychological triller and yes... a lot of fan service.
Rei is great. The fact that she doesn't talk that much only makes you want to know more about her, and makes the moments when she talks feels special. The headpiece has to do with how the Evas operate. The show doesn't really go into details but it is known that the pilots must be mentaly sync to the Eva, an I believe the head piece helps with that process.
The main Nikkes are cyborgs artificially enhanced human women. The Eva pilots are humans. Asuka’s gun is lightweight because the version she normally uses is a big one while she’s fighting in her massive EVA unit 02. This is the real size human version of set weapon.

But years later, Asuka became more popular and she became the main marketing girl. Also, wanted to add: I was surprised hearing that they weren't gonna have dub, but I assume it's because either it would mean having to hire the replacement VAs for the EVA Redub or trying to get the OG Cast for the voice lines, and I think some of them are either retired or are infamous in the dubbing/anime community due to past antics - mainly Rei's OG VA; Tiffany Grant still seems like a legit cool lady, but I assume the Nikke crew wasn't able to get her in time, especially since she isn't the current VA that Anno's Studio chose for the redub of the Netflix version.
Slightly off topic, but I've read from other comments that they will not have English VAs, but will have Japanese VAs only. Not entirely sure if this is true or not, but I really hope it's false. I play the game with English audio, so I hope to hear Rei and Asuka talk.
It's true. With the audio being shown for JP but for global Twitter. English dub didn't pan out. Same situation happened with Chainsawman unfortunately If I recall I think you just get JP voice even in English voice
@@ItsBoo. Damn, that's disappointing. I also read somewhere that when setting up the Collab, they didn't even bother to reach out for English VAs too, they just only cared for the Japanese Dub. I guess once the Collab comes, it's gonna be like "Tekken", where the characters speak English, while the Collab characters speak Japanese, amd they just understand each other anyway lol

Lore-wise, I think Evangelion is probably one of the better IP's for Nikke to collab with. If anything, I'm surprised it came this late.
