Big hello to Steve and his wife who spotted me in Portree Co-Op and a big thank you to the Polish family who very kindly picked us up and gave us a lift when we missed our bus on the way up. This was an incredible trip to an incredible place, I want to go back now for an actual holiday! Kaite's version of the adventure is here: ruclips.net/video/ssnPbTauwVE/видео.html
Oh my god! As soon as I saw the thumbnail I thought to myself how amazing would it be if you bumped in to Haze Outdoors! You both are honestly my two favourite youtubers, and you're putting up videos of the sky trail at the same time. And just a few minutes in to the video you zoom in to Haze pitching his Lanshan next to that wall. Go check out his channel, he's great. It would have been so awesome if you too had met ❤
Wow, huge well done to you both. Its so nice to see someone doing a multi day camp using "non conventional" equipment. I really appreciate the effort you have put in to not only endure that journey but to take the time to record and share it! Have the two of you got any more trips planned?
We do have further trips in the planning stage. In the meantime, Katie's just done the coast to coast (solo and in very quick time without me holding her up!) coming soon on her channel.
Hey Max, enjoyed watching this from both Katie's and your perspective. My other half and I were big into hiking, but a young family has kept us fairly stationary up until now, bar the odd expedition so it has been awesome seeing you get into it. Things are moving in the right direction however and Skye is on the cards at some point. Keep doing what you're doing mate, we love your stuff and your eclectic scope of subject matter. I can relate haha.
Well done Maximus. All that training in the Mendips was leading to this was it? More to come I hope. Well done for taking the challenge. It will pay off.
I am incredibly impressed by the distances you managed to cover each day in such conditions. Thank you for a wonderful video and best wishes to you both.
Well done, Max (and Katie)! My wife and I loved our stay in Skye and venturing out in the sideways rain. We can't wait to return and see more and I'm looking forward to showing her both of your videos to get her excited for our next trip there. Still waiting on a "Greenlaning and camping with Kermit and Keitei" video. ;-) ~Pete
Oh, wow !!, was about to comment that I’ve been watching Haze Outdoors series on this trail, as I follow both your chanels, and, it looks like you passed him, hunkered down in his Lanshan 2 tent, behind that stone windbreak !!…., what the chances ??. Also watched Keitie’s video of this too.
Excellent video of the Scottish MOORE'S....just like Derbyshire 👍 fantastic views 👏 great footage too from meteorite mac channel Derbyshire.......I loved it in Scotland....🎉
It's a small world. Day 7 around about 26.14 you mention the graveyard, Kilmarie Cemetry. That graveyard is at the bottom of Ian Andersons (Jethro Tull) former home and inspiration for quite a few of Tulls songs, 'Old ghosts', 'Dun Ringill'.'Broadford Bazaar' 'Ears Of Tin'. It also looks like you camped very close to Dun Ringill. The majority of the land you navigated used to belong to Ian Anderson and his Strathaird Estate and was sold by him to The John Muir Trust. Did you manage to cross the river stepping stones without falling in?...LOL we didn't?
When the skye bridge was originally built it was a toll bridge , if you were transporting livestock you didnt have to pay the toll, a couple of locals used to put a sheep in their cars to get round the toll fee 😂
Maximus credit for not quitting , you must be delighted with your achievement compared to your first homemade gear test back along . The best and most memorable pizza you have ever had I would guess !!😎😋😋
Think you did well for midges and rain all told, I remember retreating for both from that area. Thanks for sharing, great achievement For both. “Only men’s minds could have unmapped into abstraction such a territory”
Where you camped on day 2 is typical of the Highlands and Islands, only dry spot is in a rocky area. But you might have seen small piles of stones many of them man-made to help shelter from the winds
Looks like a trip I would have liked to do when I was in my 20’s not now though there’s no way I could walk that terrain today you made even though you were struggling to say the least at times good job.
Thank you for sharing this amazing video and trail it's one I wanted to do but with I'll health and my mobility limited it's something I'll never get to do now
My only camping trip to Skye the sky dropped down and we never saw a thing. 😫 I always advise folks to visit the west coast in spring or v early summer otherwise you will be eaten 🦟 🤬 🥃 cheers 🏴
Yes, totally agree here. Try in mid May and you never want to leave Skye. 16 years on and learning to grow veg - short cool season crops, lazy beds and a polytunnel :)
Thank you for showing Skye away from the 'top 10' sights. You can still walk in the hills all day and not see a soul (other than other you-tubers apparently!)
Well done max great video.👍 I'm from the west of Ireland myself, it has an identical landscape. I find the midges to be a complete nuisance and possibly one of the worst things that exist.
We really got to have a whip-round & get you some lightweight camping equipment. I have that tent & it weighs a ton on its own. I really admire you for getting out there & experiencing the ruggedness of the place.
A cracking video Max. Loved every second and hope I get to do that one day!. What tent was that you used?. looks like it packs up pretty neat and small. Keep on kicking arse mate!.
It's a slightly modified Polish army lavvu - 3kg of heavy canvas but we feel it's worth it for the protection from the wind, rain and sun! I did a video last year where I compare a few tents including this one.
Corrosion occurs when things stay wet rather than just get wet, there's plenty of rain and mist in that location but also sunshine, so I could imagine the more shadowed undersides staying wet much longer than the topsides exposed to the sun. The difference between them would then increase over time as the bottom loses it's zinc coating which would speed the appearance of the rust, while the top remains protected by the remaining zinc.
Maintaining the path... simple. You use ATV's to carry the equipment to crush rock in to bits to then pack down to make the path, you bring no foreign contaminants in and only repurpose local resources. I'd say that a team of 8 men could do 100 meters a day.
Would love to see before and after feet pics, and I don't have a foot fetish. You appeared to have a limp at the end. In Noway, they put down walk boards to help keep your toes dry.
I don't know why anyone puts themselves through that routine. It looks strenuous, exhausting and totally miserable. Go see Skye, it's pretty and spectacular but don't kill yourself.
I wanted to do it for the same reason I wanted to forge an axe, run a marathon or rebuild a land rover - I enjoy the challenge. I don't mind putting in the effort as I know the payoff will make it feel worthwhile in the end. Plus the views truly were epic.

Camp 5 and 7 were my favourite!
It was great to meet you, looking forward to returning to Skye 👍🏻...Steve
That deserved a pizza. Well done.
The tent you point out at 6:15 belongs to "Haze Outdoors", you RUclipsrs are everywhere!
One does not simply walk into daunting epicness....
Great job Max and KT 👍🏼
Ah Scotland, with sprawling whiskey bushes and wild haggis roaming the moors. Beautiful.
Top adventure! ✨
Really enjoyed this thru-hike and being to legally wild camp (most of the time) was great 🏕️
Looking forward to more ventures 😁
Yes indeedy!
Scotland is the promised land. I have walked around that area the Quiraing with the Table, the Needle and the Prison rock formations all very surreal.

I did the Skye Trail a view weeks ago. What a great walk!
Fantastic, well done to both of you. I went to Skye in my youth many years ago. Off to watch Katie's vid now 👍
Great achievement well done. I felt exhausted just watching you 👍🏼
Well done Max, loved the video. Katie is a great companion, and so patient, I am subscribed to her channel also. Love that woolly hat with the ears.
Camera's never do Skye any justice, when you're lucky enough to get some clear days, which you did, its an awesome place.
Hah That is @HazeOutdoors @6:15. Great video, will definitely give this a go one day.
Ahh brilliant been waiting for this Max, cheers!!
You looked knackered and happy in equal measures. Good video, as always. Thanks for taking us along.

@@maximusironthumper brilliant. I've been watching her channel for a while, again she has a really refreshing alternative style.
Climbed and camped on Skye aged 12 in 79.
Stunning place. Thanks for reminding me.
What a great video Max, loved it. I'm ashamed to say in my 50 years as a Scotsman, I've never been to Skye.
And a traitor collaborating with the English. 😮
Well impressed you completed the mammoth walk!

Lovely. You were lucky with the weather.
well done!
Thumper very much enjoyed, thanks for sharing, from Steve near Chester England 🏴 where the Roman's once lived.
Epicness indeed 🙂
Loved it ❤
Great video. You did amazingly well.
That was great Max! Really enjoyed that video. Beautiful place, but looked like a real challenge in parts.
Very enjoyable and intelligently edited. Thanks for sharing such a great trip
Absolutely incredible. Fantastic Max!
Well done Maximus. All that training in the Mendips was leading to this was it? More to come I hope. Well done for taking the challenge. It will pay off.
I went to the Isles of Scilly once. We walked round the big island in half a day. I can't get over how big places in Scotland are!
Great stuff and well done, you make a great team. Loved the cuckoo call at the beginning of day 4, reminded me of the WHW
I am incredibly impressed by the distances you managed to cover each day in such conditions. Thank you for a wonderful video and best wishes to you both.
Well done you two.👏👏
An awesome landscape with a tragic history, where you would definitely need a wee dram with your porridge, to start the day.

Fantastic video , for some reason the child in me expected you to pop out of the phone box in a Superman out lol . Absolutely love the video
Epic journey. 👍
You made a great video despite the effort of backpacking up the big hills. The time you put into capturing the wildlife is appreciated too. 🦅🦆🦢🐜
What a great video Max, it’s lovely to see you both doing stuff together
What an epic journey, thanks for taking us along. What an experience.

The things you do for love well done

My feet ache just watching this, that's quite the long journey to make... :P
Insane!

Nice 👊😎👍
Fantastic video! thank you..... You need to try Glencoe as your next stop...
Looks like a trip I would have liked to do when I was in my 20’s not now though there’s no way I could walk that terrain today you made even though you were struggling to say the least at times good job.
That was some effort by you Max👍 I do feel Katie may have an unfair advantage, that being she’s half mountain goat!😆.
Thank you for sharing this amazing video and trail it's one I wanted to do but with I'll health and my mobility limited it's something I'll never get to do now
Hill walking will do wonders for your base running fitness.
I enjoyed watching that, just thankful it wasn't me doing it!
My only camping trip to Skye the sky dropped down and we never saw a thing. 😫 I always advise folks to visit the west coast in spring or v early summer otherwise you will be eaten 🦟 🤬 🥃 cheers 🏴

Mate, you need decent pack. Hats off for the walk. Having done some long distance walks myself, I knew exactly how you were feeling at times
He made that pack though, it's part of the challenge. Sure it'd be easier with a commercially made pack, but it would lose its point imo
We really got to have a whip-round & get you some lightweight camping equipment. I have that tent & it weighs a ton on its own. I really admire you for getting out there & experiencing the ruggedness of the place.
We love that tent though, I just need to man up a bit to carry it better!
The thumbnail looks like you've just landed on Mars. ;)
A cracking video Max.

That guy camped by the stone wall was Haze Outdoors. :P
go for it Max you sounded like you were in training for an alternative career as an obscene phone caller :)
KT is a machine. Should have brought a wheelbarrow so she could push you when you got tired 😂
@31:24 it is infact not the case...headage payments have long since ceased. - great vid Max.
I'm with u with the height thing Max, I'm scared stiff & just gets worse with age. Far worse now at 56 than I was in my 20's & 30's 😅
John Muir next :)
So, you almost bumped into 'Haze Outdoors'!
I have a question for the blacksmith.
Why is the top of the gate not rusty but the undersides of the gate are?
Corrosion occurs when things stay wet rather than just get wet, there's plenty of rain and mist in that location but also sunshine, so I could imagine the more shadowed undersides staying wet much longer than the topsides exposed to the sun. The difference between them would then increase over time as the bottom loses it's zinc coating which would speed the appearance of the rust, while the top remains protected by the remaining zinc.
Im pretty sure they use helicopters to lift up bags of stone etc to repair the trails
What tent are you using
Polish Army lavvu.
@@maximusironthumper thankyou thout it looked familiar
Haze outdoors was the camper who bagged the other camping spot,, the legend...
Maintaining the path... simple. You use ATV's to carry the equipment to crush rock in to bits to then pack down to make the path, you bring no foreign contaminants in and only repurpose local resources. I'd say that a team of 8 men could do 100 meters a day.
@21m looks like its thrashed 3 stone off you already lol
That brown tent you saw pitched up was haze outdoors. Another RUclipsr that did the trail.
Was Skye covered with forest before humans arrived?
If Keitei had a pound for every time she had to spell her 1st name
Would love to see before and after feet pics, and I don't have a foot fetish. You appeared to have a limp at the end. In Noway, they put down walk boards to help keep your toes dry.
I don't know why anyone puts themselves through that routine. It looks strenuous, exhausting and totally miserable. Go see Skye, it's pretty and spectacular but don't kill yourself.
I'm sorry I gave that impression, it certainly had it's ups and downs but overall was actually one of the best weeks of my life.
I wonder why anyone would want to do that ... looks dreadful.
I wanted to do it for the same reason I wanted to forge an axe, run a marathon or rebuild a land rover - I enjoy the challenge. I don't mind putting in the effort as I know the payoff will make it feel worthwhile in the end.
Plus the views truly were epic.
Perhaps you need an older woman so you can keep up :)
Perhaps I just need to man up a bit :-)
This alternative life of yours doesn’t suit everyone, good luck, I wish it was my life, enjoy and all the best. Ps, get rid of the beard 😂
Think the tent who took the good spot behind the wall was @hazeoutdoors
