Mammoth Mountain Bike Park 2022: Double Black Diamond Run: SKID Marks (4K)

- This run is Skid Marks from the top of the Mammoth mountain bike park all the way till it becomes a blue run. This goes from a double black diamond, to a black diamond, to finally a blue run towards the very bottom. This is a techy and rough single track. It's nothing outrageous or super exposed. Some tight switchbacks and sharp rock, but for the most part, a fairly straight forward double black diamond. Skid Marks and Off The Top (Blue Run) are the only 2 runs off the top - other than Kamikaze on race day! You can also get to Kamikaze from Off The Top.
It had rained the day before, so the 'dirt' (gravel) was in pretty great shape. The mountain was riding really fast and I put in some of my fastest times on some other runs that day.

Did this trail in 1998, rigid forks mountain bikes with my gf and 9 yo daughter, glaciers and all. Very memorable ride.
@@CvC1167 rigid forks? Ouch! Good for you!
@@TheMarkListYes, for sure brutal, part of why it was so memorable, haha!
@@CvC1167 it's always the sufferfests we remember! It's been really warm up here and difficult to ride in the heat
Now I know that im better off avoiding this route. Just looks like a rough verson of off the top. Great video. Happy trails.
You're absolutely right. It's nothing worth doing unless you want to get to velociraptor or other stuff on that side of the mountain.
nice job!!! We caught skid marks after a rain too and the trail was sooooooooooooo good....I would say it may not have even been a black diamond with the epic dirt....
Yeah, the weather is everything up here….the rain can make it fast and smooth or it can make it rutted and expose more rocks! It was fast this morning after yesterday’s rain.
Surfing the kitty litter takes getting used to when its dry. I bet it was super sweet after the rain. Nice footage.
Yeah the kitty litter is definitely a mammoth phenom... It's all I ride up here for the most part. Thanks for the compliment!
Great video brother... I was riding there the following week... and man it Dumped a ton of rain... all the locals were stoked on how sweet the dirt was... it was straight powder till the day you rode. So many awesome trails at Mammoth.
Glad you got some good riding in! It got destroyed a bit from the long heavy rain a week or so ago…trail crew was scrambling! Rained yesterday afternoon and today was pretty good…although every rain we get new rocks and obstacles appear…keeps things interesting for sure!
Do they allow mountain unicycles? I am heading up there in a couple days to do some hiking and thought this place would be awesome to do some riding at on my muni. Are there any smooth trails going down from the top or do you have any suggestions on trails that are fairly smooth?
@@violinladderman3673 I'm not sure if they do
I wonder if the snow will even melt in time for mtbing the summit this year
Pretty sure they canceled the whole bike park season for this summer.
That does not look like a double black. but great views!
Exactly... they definitely need to upgrade their ratings.. this trail rating does change the further you get down it...
@@TheMarkSicola the trail ratings do change. Double black for the upper section, then single black, and eventually blue for the lower part of the trail
@@blackskymedia6758 Yup, i know... i even put that in the description of the video...
@@TheMarkList I was just replying to Mark up there, cheers bud good riding! I do feel like since the ratings are "subjective" to other trails on the mountain that the double black is appropriate for the upper section, just for how loose and rocky and the steep dropoffs. Probably a good call to steer the family's/novices to "Off The Top". The GoPro effect is real, some of those rock gardens on the upper rocky part can for sure be challenging if you don't pick the right line -- as you know
@@blackskymedia6758 Yup and the ratings from bike park to bike park aren't always equal too! Thanks for the comments, much appreciated! :)
I didn't see anything that would justify a double black rating. Just saying.
I completely agree! There's a lot of runs that don't match the rating/level of difficulty.. especially the "pro lines"... the rating also changes on this run as you go lower and lower..
