I'd like to know whether hearing earlier or later in the process indicates UT-Austin's level of interest in a student. It seems that non-auto admits and OOS are hearing sooner than auto admits.

How does parent having Associates degree count toward first generation? Should step-parent (mom remarried) be considered?

My brother graduated with me...just one year diffrence. I am class of 2009 and he is 2010. My gpa is sub par.... and now apply for grad school. Should I expect some kind of legacy advantage because we both graduated? Of course on the application sheets,I selected sibling alumni since my one year younger brother also attended. Thank you so much.
Also..one more question is does the grad school sdmission comittee take my gpa seriously? It has been almost 9 yrs since I graduated.

So if my mother did not attend college at all, but my father attended college but did not receive his degree, does that make me a first generation college student. Also, is this factored into the Personal Achievement Index?

You will self-report the education levels of your parents. For your mom, you can put "high school" and father "some college" for highest education level. You are considered first-generation college student and it will be taken into account for your PAI score.

Hey thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, scholarships for international students are hard to receive at UT. This is true for most public universities. Many private universities, however, have better opportunities for international students. It has to do with the way our state universities are funded here.
