@@looloolawrence4009 I got some done not too long ago and it actually went smoothly since I knew how to do it. The only awkward part was how loud the machine was when carving out the keys. Lol. I will say, it cost more at my Wal-Mart than it did in the video.
I saw this machine in my neighborhood Walmart recently, and was wondering how difficult it was too use. I see it was quite simple, thanks for the demonstration.
For anyone who wants to make a copy of " do not copy" key: yes you can make a copy of it with this machine. I made 3 to replace my broken house key. They all work. excellent.
This only applies for standard keys like Schlage (non-primus), Kwikset, Weiser and Yale with a "do not copy" stamp on them. The stamp really does nothing and is more for aesthetics. For an actual restricted key with "do not copy" milled into the key such as a Mul-T-Lock, Medeco, or ASSA high security lock, this will not work.
Thank you very much for this demonstration video. I actually intended on having duplicate keys made earlier today, but was so busy with other tasks that I inadvertantly looked past it - exceeding the office hours of the locksmith. Having seen one of these machines recently at a Walmart, which was a surprise to begin with, I searched here on RUclips to see if there was any reference to the esse and quality of the service, which led me to your video. Everything appears to be perfect from what I'm seeing, so, with that said - I'm going to head over to Walmart to make duplicate keys today instead of having to wait until Monday. Thanks, again!
Cool. Wished there'd been one of these machines at Walmart when I was working there. It was a pain in the ass, to say the least when people came in to get their keys cut, especially when we kept running out. Even worse was when people thought we made all types of car keys and I had to explain that we don't make the newer ones because they're chip keys. They have to go to the dealership to have those made. They'd complain about how that costs $110. I'd tell them we don't make those kinds and if I made you one and you tried to use it, the computer in your car would erase, the car wouldn't start and then it would cost $600 to have it fixed. I'm sorry, but we don't make chip keys. Only the dealerships do that.
I did the buy 2 get 1 free for around $10 & some change total. got a cowboys one. one of those ultra-lite ones in red. and a basic one for the free. all worked GREAT! took about maybe 5 or 6 minutes total. make sure you clean your original key before you insert it. highly recommended!
If I was using that machine I would probably pay in cash. It’s just a little funny that someone could potentially hack the machine and be able to link people’s exact key code with their identifying information such as name and home address if they pay with a credit/debit card.
WARNING: Note that the keys in this vid have a lone groove down the side. If your key has a second groove down the side these machines will NOT be able to duplicate them. They'll go ahead and take your $2 per key, but their blanks only have the one groove and the resulting keys you get will likely not even fit into the slot, let alone turn.
thx Aaron, i had actually wondered abt this....any way you might post a picture detailing the additional groove so i can be certain about what you're saying?.....would maybe help others as well
I tried this today but the cheapest option the kiosk gave me was $4 for (so far as I could tell) one copy. There were only four options -- the other 3 were $6. The key I need a copy of is a simple "Kwickset" door key, in "like new" condition". (I copied it years ago with no problem: I use the copies and kept the original unused, in case copies were ever needed again.) I guess the Kiosk was out of proper "plain jane" blanks?
Thanks for this tutorial. Now I don't have to go to Lowes and search 10 minutes for an employee available to make a key. I found out that this machine also makes car keys btw, but you have to wait 3-5 days for shipping. I still think that it's much more convenient than going to the dealership to get a key made.
Aaron is correct about the grooves. I purchased three keys for a house door. common enough. The key would not even go into the lock, Three grooves on my key and one groove on the minute key. they took my money anyway using a blank that wasn't going to work

Not a locksmith but getting into locks is kind of a, errm, "hobby" of mine, if you have access to a file or even an electric sander, chopsaw or grinding wheel, really any way to thin the key without obstructing the grooves, as long as the pins are aligned with the shear line so that the cylinder turns you should be good to go, just shave it down until it firms, don't fuck with the teeth unless necessary, and keep testing until you get it right, if not I can explain a couple methods of opening if you're interested
They're usually just a large head version of any standard key. They are made for all standard manufacturers so you can most likely find one for the key you currently have
I saw a key machine like this in Kroger. It made car keys, after you input the make model and year. It then asked me to insert the key (low tech key). I didn't but was curious how much they charged.
