  • I test out the information going around about retarding a tooth or two on the exhaust cam to help with better drivability. So is this Cracked or is it Fact. Let's find out!
The Stock map tune file will be out soon!

Thanks for doing this. I have an ej20x on the stand. I am not seeing a location difference between the cam lobe location with any combination of single avcs cams, dual avcs cams, fixed gears, and avcs cams.

Thanks for doing this test. Which is better one tooth or 2 tooth ? I'm doing the 20x swap soon

If you're going to do it, do only one tooth. I didn't see any benefit of doing two teeth.

Are you on a stock tune? Will it hurt the engine to retard the exhaust cam timing? Can the issue be "tuned" out? I did the ej20x swap and I have to wait so long for the perfect gap to get into traffic. It feels like I am starting in second gear. Id like to try this fix but my Subaru shop folks tell me not to waste my money, just save up for a 2.5. Do you know how to fix the situation so as to get the full potential of the 2.0? Thanks for guinea-pigging!

I was on a stock tune for awhile. I ended up buying a tactrix cable and tuning it. It seemed to help a little, but not much. As for tuning out the issue i dont think you ever will get it tuned out, unless you swap the JDM ecu/harness with it to be able to control the exhaust avcs.
I feel your pain on the not being able to shoot a gap though, that's why I started to do this.
