Gosh, learning stuff about slime science is making me want to pick up my switch and go start playing *RIGHT* now. I used to think it was boring, and I didn’t understand it, but now it makes more sense to me, and I just love it.
Thank you for making this!! It’s super informative, and the charts you made have helped me soooooo much throughout my gameplay. I’ll be sure to check out your other videos!

Been a while since i bothered to comment on one of these videos, though will say i have enjoyed a couple. Figured i would note a couple things here. 1 thing you seemed to miss noting, or at the very least only loosely implied with one of your tables you presented, is how exactly each reagion effects drop rates. You did cover region exclusives, but something you didn't note is that those regions have reduced drop rates for the other items in the process. This builds off into the second thing i want to note, which was the drop rate tables. While those numbers do appear on the wiki, those aren't percentages. Those are weights. Explaining both the above points in more detail, weights are used in the program to determine the odds of which 1 item will be selected from a pool of multiple items. Weights as such can be visualized as names in a hat of sorts. The greater the weight, the more times that name appears. Those weights are then all added together to determine the entire pool size, like throwing all the names into the pool. This means regions that have more items, have a larger pool, and as such lower odds for any particular item. Put into an example lets use lava dust in the dry reef versus the indigo quarry with the basic pump. In the dry reef we are looking at a weight of 90 for deep brine, a weight of 90 for primordy oil, a weight of 10 for spiral steam and a weight of 1 for the lava dust. This translates to a total pool size of 191, and our target has 1 weight in there for a 1 in 191 chance, or a bit over 0.5%. Compared to the indigo quarry where deep brine isn't available, and as such has a pool size of only 101, a bit under a 1% drop rate. This same reasoning is another reason not to put extractors in the ancient ruins. Side note which isn't overly important but worth noting for some is the drop rate is chance per item dropped by the extractor. Programmers note for the reasoning of weights versus hard coded chances: its easier to code and have particular regions add to a couple lists which the object already has a function to read and calculate odds from compared to hard coding. This also future proofs it if things need to change, as the program will automatically recalibrate the drop rates instead of you needing to manually change each and every entry as part of it. Making it more efficient in both the short and long term.
Hey Purple, glad to hear you enjoyed (some) videos of mine! Evertyime I read a forum post or comment, i'm amazed by your knowwledge of Slime Rancher! I have to admit that I didn't mention the 'weight'-system specifically. But in all honesty, I didn't want to go into it, because having to explain it would make the video much lenghtier and heavier. By showing that graph, it rather makes the point of the value of using higher tiers of extractors. Though admittedly I should have mentioned it more clearly. I didn't know about the last paragraph of your comment, the programmers perspective. That was really educative!
@@Epokk quite fair. Just personally think adding the percentage signs on the chart could be a bit misleading (seeing as for the example of the pump in the dry reef its adding to a total of 191% between all items, which can be a bit confusing to try and understand what it is trying to say there.)
Ok, I know that you probs won't see this seeing as this video is a year old. But what are echoes(?) used for? I've been looking and trying to find out what there used for but alls I'm seeing is when they were first put in the game they were used as decorations, is that still there use? Ps sorry for spelling and grammar mistakes!
I read every comment :) Echoes basically have no use, except for cosmetic reasons. Some people like to create 'christmas trees' or put them high up in the air to mimic stars.
