I'm a little late to this. I can't believe I've lived long enough to see Branagh do Lear. I was 21 years old when I saw "Henry V" in movie theaters back in 1989. Has it been 35 years?
The worst Shakespeare production I've ever seen. A third of the play is cut. And that's just for starters. Very, very disappointing from a man who is a superb interpreter of Shakespeare's work.
With all due respect: Branagh knows how to act Shakespeare, but he has no clue what Shakespeare was doing with each genre in which he wrote. Cutting so many lines, including the first scene!!, removes the poetic depth of this play. Perhaps this works for reality TV fans, but it's no longer King Lear if we have no sense of his Kingliness.
Omg. My bday present to myself. Seeing Kenneth Branagh in King Lear🎉. Cant wait!
