Thank you for this upload. It is quite possibly one of the most beautiful things Paul Simon ever wrote. People think of this film as a comedy but it's actually quite dramatic and powerful. This score by Simon goes perfectly with what the main character goes through at the end of the film.
I do love the words...but this version is perfect. Thanks for posting this final shot from the film Shampoo. Lyrics: Silent eyes Watching Jerusalem Make her bed of stones Silent eyes No one will comfort her Jerusalem Weeps alone She is sorrow, sorrow She burns like a flame And she calls my name Silent eyes Burning in the desert sun Halfway to Jerusalem And we shall all be called as witnesses Each and everyone To stand before the eyes of God And speak what was done
Had this tune in my brain for 45 years. Always thought it was Paul's best virtually undiscovered song. Searched the Shampoo soundtrack and never realized that Silent Eyes was in all of our Simon collections. Never really "discovered" that version hiding in plain sight as a gem on the Still Crazy album. Now, this unexpurgated version replete with more George Martinish strings. No idea who arranged this. Almost 50 years to finally hear this version in its entirety. Fitting picture of Warren staring into the abyss.....
@Jarred Knox Me too. I first started searching for this around 2000 but hadn't looked for it in a couple of years. I listened to "Still Crazy After All These Years" this past week and thought I'd give it another try. And the sound quality is perfect too!
My guess is that it's the version from Alternate Tunings. theseconddisc.com/2018/06/18/songs-for-the-asking-paul-simon-previews-rarities-collection-alternate-tunings-and-in-the-blue-light/ But i've not been able to get a copy of that release so cannot confirm.
@Jarred Knox I thought someone else said this was Paul. Do you know what woman songs it? I figured Paul was just trying to make it sound pretty. If it’s a woman, I want to hear her other songs, beautiful voice
Thank you for sharing! Where did you find this version of the song?❤ I'd actually like to get the whole soundtrack from Shampoo but can't seem to find it anywhere online. Do you have any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it!!🙏🏼
Paul Simon only wrote a snippet of the score which is what you're listening to. This short musical theme is repeated a couple of times throughout the film. People mistake this film as a comedy but it's really quite dramatic at the end. It's a powerful lesson for someone who's incapable of a commitment.
I’ve been looking for this for years. Thanks
Love this song .....in 2023. I was only 7 years old when this film came out in 1975.❤. It's so ... melancholy.
same age, agree
The emptiness of his life in a song

Lyrics:
Silent eyes
Watching Jerusalem
Make her bed of stones
Silent eyes
No one will comfort her
Jerusalem
Weeps alone
She is sorrow, sorrow
She burns like a flame
And she calls my name
Silent eyes
Burning in the desert sun
Halfway to Jerusalem
And we shall all be called as witnesses
Each and everyone
To stand before the eyes of God
And speak what was done

The best Jack Warden...R.i.p.

Great view, would love to stand there after all these years and take it all in
on a side note: I've always wondered what street Warren Beatty is looking at here.Maybe Coldwater Canyon or Benedict Canyon ?
it's Loma Vista Drive in the Trousdale Estates section of Beverly Hills. seen from Kimridge Drive above Coldwater Canyon.
@@bassaquard4036 Excellent ! Thanks so much for the info !
@@bassaquard4036 Actually her house was located on 2257 Bowmont Dr. Beatty is looking at her leaving from Loma Vista..
2257 Bowman was where she lived. He is standing atop a promontory lot on Loma Vista...
@@bigstar75 Thanks Big Star,I appreciate the info !
And she calls my name
A lot better than the one with words
Absolutely. This song is a "MOOD." No words needed.
I agree but this alternate version still sounds good.
❤️
So this is Paul Simon singing? When watching the movie I thought for sure it was a woman’s voice. Amazing song

@@mick2spic it's Paul Simon.
It IS Paul Simon!
@@mick2spic This is definitely the one and only Paul Simon singing and playing guitar.
You heard correctly. It is a woman's voice. A woman using a man's name.

映画で使われた、というので探してここにたどり着きましたが…………あの、歌詞は後づけだったのかな。
そういう映画じゃないみたいだ
