I had a Maine Coon that weighed 31lbs just a huge tom. He would hunt in the forest next to our house and bring back rabbits and squirrels to the front door. We would also see him stalking deer in the back yard and I was even able to see him jump on one. When he was a kitten maybe four months old he was attacked by an owl but managed to get away. Just a bad ass cat and I think if he ran into a small male or female Bobcat he could have definitely held his own.

Maine Coons are very chill cats........not aggressive like the other shorthair breeds. But as with any cat, once you put them outside, instinctively, they will explore the environment.

Never doubt the capabilities of a house cat, Maine Coon or otherwise. They may be "domesticated" but all cats can go full wild when they have reason to.
I had a quarter bobcat that my parents got when I was younger. She had to get shots because of nerve issues due to being part bobcat. Every time she had kittens the kittens had varying lengths of tails. This included no tail, stump tails, half tails, three quarter tails, full tails, and extra long tails. But all the kittens had nervous system issues. So it is possible, it just seems to cause nervous system problems and isn't worth the cross breeding.
My cat has bobcat in him, i found him as an abandoned kitten. He’s 11 years old now and has had many health issues. I’ve spent a lot of money on vet visits and a special diet for him. He’s been my best friend and unfortunately his lifespan won’t be as long as most cats. It’s the sad brutal truth of a life for hybrid cats.

I have a Maine Coon and she is the BEST cat I ever had. She love’s EVERYBODY and she is so wonderful around our other pets. She pus up I my Corgi and my Chihuahua chasing after her and barking at her. She is very protective over me. We also have a larger border collie and one day he was barking at me because I was playing with him, but she thought he was attacking me so she an up behind him and proceeded to claw him in the behind. He jumped a mile into the air and I laughed so hard😂🤣. She even knows when I’m not feeling well. These are some of the BEST and most LOVING cats to own. I would have a million more like her if I could afford it.

I think a MainCoon could have a chance against a Bobcat, but the Bobcat is VERY aggressive. I guess it would depend on each cat.

Except in my experience Maine Coons are among the smartest of cats, & tend to talk often with a cadence much like our speaking. Smart enough to mimic trying to communicate with us.

I'm from Maine and we do have wild coons. They're little different then the domesticated and feral Maine coon. The most common wild color is brindle. If any other color its most likely a cross with a domesticated cat/feral . Their noses and ears are very distinct, almost looks like a mini lion in the face if that makes sense. Their hair is longer and fuller to survive Maine winters. Looks more like a lynx with a huge tail, sometimes twice the size of the cat. I've seen a coon while hunting that was larger than the average Canadian Lynx. Our wild coons are just as elusive as bobcats. The wild ones act just that, wild. They don't go anywhere close to where people live. Most Mainers haven't seen a real wild coon in their life but they're out there. I've been chased by more black bears then Ives seen real wild coons lol.
I had a bob cat tabby mix and it was like a dog... amazing cat...
I knew a male 50/50 cat. It was for real because the owner of the female domestic cat witnessed the Bobcat jump on her! I don't know if there were multiple kittens in the litter. Louie (the 50/50), was the only one I saw. He was a large, shorthaired cat with grey Tabby marking, but his hind legs were quite a bit longer than average. He also had the Bobcat's very short tail. He was pretty skittish if he didn't know someone, but his owner said that he slept in the bed with them every night, and was very loyal. As far as seeing wild Bobcats in the woods, I have seen them on my land in middle Tennessee more than once. They are getting more used to people just like the wild Turkeys are.
I have a 50/50 bobcat hybrid and he is skittish of new people for 5 minutes. After that, he's fairly confident. He's slept on my bed and in my lap for 8 years straight now.
I know the answer to this because my Maine coon literally got killed and dragged off by a Bobcat. That cat was the best animal I've ever owned.
It really depends on the maine coon and the bobcat. Our main coon isnt fully grown and is already over 9kg, so the average bobcat wouldnt touch him. I assume you didnt have a fully grown maine coon or simply a smaller one. I have seen maine coons that would probably shred most bobcats as well. It doesnt help that he can reach the doorhandles in the house by standing on his backlegs either :'D
@@danishblunt9698 my maine coon was only 12 lbs if I remember correctly. I have pics from my game camera of the Bobcat that got him. It's hard to say exactly how big it was but it was obviously monstrous by bobcat standards. It wouldn't surprise me if it was over 40 pounds. The biggest bobcat I've ever seen. The only animal I ever hunted for the sake of revenge was that bobcat. I never got it, maybe it was for the better.
@@yankeeapple5615 considering it went for your maine coon it might even be dead by starvation. As the video pointed out. Bobcats really dont want to hunt other felines even if they are smaller because they risk taking serious damage.

@@danishblunt9698 bobcats are able to kill a deer. Mostly likely you were around. That's why the bobcat didn't attack your cat
I dont think they come from bobcats but they certainly do have that wild look to them. Chunky all over, larger paws than most breeds and ear tufts.

I've seen some videos of bobcats being curious about domestic cats and approaching for a sniff, but the cats usually hiss and growl at them. There's also some videos of wild bobcats eventually becoming friends with housecats, and with captive bobcats/lynxes, that's almost guaranteed.
However, if prey for bobcats/lynxes in an area is scarce, there's a good chance they'll attack housecats.

Anybody that actually thinks a house cat could take a bobcat is delusional. Pound for pound a bobcat is twice as badass as any domesticated cat. And speaking of pounds, bobcats can get over 40 lbs.

Bob cat's evolved over thousands of years while the house cat was made yesterday. People forget that a full grown wild cat had thousands of k!lls/experience to even reach maturity while house cat's were raised off pet food
Is there a more "wild" version of the Maine Coon in New England that becomes feral and sometimes becomes domesticated again as in a cat who has her kittens under your building and begins yowling for food?
How did Maine Coon Cat first become known to man? Did they first show up as larger than normal for housecat ferals in New England? Did the early ones have more bobcat or lynx characteristics than the ones now in cat shows?

Cats don't fight each other like dog. They mostly leave each other's alone. Is very rare to see cat and Bobcat fighting or any other cats. They just don't fight each other.

I had a female Main Coon and have seen Bobcats in the wild. I don’t think a Main Coon could win a fight with a Bobcat and especially a Lynx, they are just too big.

I got a giant maincoon that was a feral kitten. that looks identical to a Bob cat but has a long tail. Even the lynx ears. Video has me curious. Good blanket as long as me n cuddle buddy spots n all so I'm confused

Bobcats are pretty similar to european / scottish wildcats right? Because i think maybe the very largest main coons could take on a wildcat, although wildcats are much larger than most domestic cats so otherwise the wildcat would always win probably.
