Thank you for pointing out the bay leaves. We use them in our cupboards. The Bay Laurel tree is fairly common around here. When we need fresh leaves, we take a short road trip to get some. Then the dried out leaves go in our kitchen trash can to help keep it smelling fresh. Gotta love nature, always a solution to each problem.

You can buy Bay leaves in the ethnic aisle, here they’re 99 cents for a good size bag. My pantry smells like Bay leaves 😁

Bay leaves would never get old in MY house! I use them every week. 😻 It’s terrific in tomato dishes, soups, roasts, you name it! Glad to hear bugs don’t like them. And yeah, I always freeze my rice and flour after I bring them home from the store. Good tips!

Blessings! It's great that you brought this up because sometimes people forget to check for the pests which can lead to really big problems if left unchecked. I usually use 2 parts lemon juice to 1 part white vinegar & use that to spray not only for the pesky critters but also because it's a good solution for cleaning & disinfecting. God's Blessings to everyone!

Bay leaves work great! I have been using them for many years. Also, peppermint oil on cotton balls or even peppermint tea bags help keep away mice. My brother stores bags of dog food in his garage and sprinkles peppermint oil around them and at the doors. He lives in the country and has never had mice or any other critter.

Four other things that work are mint, lemon grass lavender and catnip. Catnip also repels mice.

As you suggest, I always freeze flour, corn meal, oatmeal, rice, etc. for 3 days (to kill any insect eggs) as soon as I get it home from the store. Then I bring it back to room temperature and vacuum seal it in large Ball canning jars using my FoodSaver attachment. No more finding teeny-tiny itty-bitty crawly things in the bag when I need to make a recipe. (More often than not, those bugs hatch from eggs that are already in the food when it leaves the factory and not from bugs that crawled in after you put the food in your pantry.) Although I don't freeze them first, I also vacuum seal sugar, crackers, cereal, cookies, etc. in large Ball jars. An added advantage is that I can easily see when something is running low.

How awful!!! I would vacuum everything again, deep into nooks and crevices. Remove everything, floor mats, empty glove box, trunk, everything. Put down a few of the sticky bug traps, maybe a bait trap so they carry it wherever they are nesting and die. Wipe down everywhere with white vinegar. Repeat. Maybe try some of the sprays designed to get rid of lice. If it was winter, you could give the car a deep freeze outside! Please keep me posted what works.
