As a Taiwanese, let me tell you tariffs wont make US great again on chips. The only way US can make great chips like Taiwan is if you can somehow make MIT equivalent skilled engineers work for around $30k ~ $50k salary per year consistently. Good luck.

2:06. “We were at our richest from 1870 to 1913”
If you know US history, that “we” is a pretty loaded term.
it's sad you think that way. Yes things were rough for some during that time period, if you know history it was rough the decade before that, and the decade before, ad infintium. All but the 1% have been slaves, plebs, and raped in all ways since the dawn of time, it has only gotten better, with each century. It's sad you cling on to that "loaded term." For every slight and micro aggression of today, it doesn't even register next to the atrocities of history, and the growth of the human race, please wake up.
in 1913 two beasts were formed to rob Americans....Federal Reserve and IRS
Everything isn’t racial he was just explaining the state of American when we had an aggressive tariff policy and no income taxes. I’m a black/latino man (mixed) and I’m sick of the race hustling! I wish we had more investment focused people instead.
Jensen Huang didn't bow down and kiss the ring.
And I admired him for it
Lol
I'm sure all NVDA shareholders are ecstatic about this.
They could have built factories here decades ago.
And that's why Nvidia is circling the toilet bowl right now. Play ball and profit, or don't and get flushed.
It took five years to build TSMC Arizona, so there’s no point to build another fab for a one-term president.
Instead, Chinese companies will get chips with lower cost compared to their US counterparts, which is devastating for US AI industries and tech companies.
In the near future, we can see that American people will buy any electronic product overseas instead of buy from domestic markets! What a stupid idea!
He wants the USA to manufacture its own stuff, which isn’t a bad idea. However, this is going to cause some wild readjustments to the world economy.
Except that even in this video he said that the US would make a lot of money... implying.. he doesn't know what a tariff does.
@@nestharus Yes this economic Guru thinks it's free money... America is in for a rude awakening.
It would take at least 10-15 years and it would cost America more
@@nestharus you dont seem to know how tariffs work. The global economy reacts slowly, meaning for a while they are willing to pay higher costs until they can redirect their income sources. In the meantime the tariff will keep changing and other charges will be added and dropped, putting companies in a situation where they have to constantly eat extra costs for imports. People will not buy their inflated cost products if they raise it too high so they will be forced to either take a loss or give up and move out.
The rest of the world purchases the chips at their current price, so why do they care. US consumers are the only ones who will have to pay higher prices. There is no domestic competition in the GPU space so a tariff isn't warranted. They're just trying to fill up the treasury faster. You pay tariffs and income taxes.
This will be like a tennis match....Tariffs back and forward higher each time and the citizens of each country will suffer.
I have a question Apple iPhone IPads etc are made mostly in China does this mean the 10% tax increase applies to them when exported to the USA
The 10% applies on all goods imported from China, including the Apple ones.
The tariff is paid by the U.S.A. importer of the good.
The retail price could be the same if Apple will reduce its margins, but that will not be welcomed by shareholders since stock price will go down.
The final goal is to manufacture Apple products in U.S.A., but that will be potentially more expensive to manufacturing in U.S.A..
Part, or all, the tariff could be compensated by a rise of U.S. dollar strenght toward chinese currency Yuan. But this will make start an Apple's products production in U.S.A. more expensive.
So it is more likely that in short terms Apple will not rise prices, but little by little will rise them when new models will appear (or maintain same prices trying to lower production costs).
@@donkeymarco Thank you for your explanation.so in the end the buyers of the product have to pay more or the suppliers have to cut their profit margin. Thanks again for your input
@ohasli38 Or have at same price a lower quality product, that lasts fewer time.
This last one being the preferred by large companies since they will able to sell the same product more often to same customer.
All phones , electronics, parts , clothes are mainly made in China, all he is doing is putting up prices for American citizens and pocketing the cash , China could bring usa to it knees in weeks ... just dont export to usa

Tariff wall is actually hilarious
Tariffs are a useful tool but it shouldn't be the only tool. For this tool of human being, it is his only tool. Applying tariffs to everything is like trying to use a hammer to fix everything. And it will be ordinary people who will get hurt the most by his incompetence 🙄
After your video about XAI308K the coin's price jumped from 50 cents to about $1. You guys nailed it 👏
See a little confusion here. 60% of all semi conducters and 90% of the worlds super advanced computer chips are made and exported by Taiwanese companies. The likes of Intel/Nvidia all use them, even Apple with its made in America claim uses Taiwanese companiy chips using a Taiwan factory based in the US. Why do you guys think China/US are so hot about Taiwan. Tariffs hit companies, both selling and buying, because companies dont care about us they just increase their prices on both sides to cover any losses. Sellers/Buyers pay for tariffs the cost is passed onto the consumer, the tariff money goes to the US Govt, they get richer, you get charged more. When they say it will make them richer, it will but you are the one losing money, no one else. You think the cost of living is bumpy now...
From my understanding tariffs are supposed to protect a country from outside competition, say a country does child slavery and can sell you a cellphone for 10 cents vs the actual cost of labor on it making that cellphone 100$, tariffs offset this cost by taxing it, which makes local companies, who have to pay for such tariffs, have to to invest more into local regulated solutions if they want to touch the local market, it's a tax that they can't avoid simply by taking their business elsewhere, increasing prices will also make them less competitive against those who source locally. It's technically the correct course of action I think. For example Democrats talk about lower carbon footprint but they outsource their oil from foreign countries that both hate us and pollute significantly themselves, the process of importing the oil pollutes even further land, air and sea across the planet, so putting tariffs on foreign oil while using our own massive reserves to lower our own costs, then sourcing our oil locally which we have in excess should in theory tremendously help the economy because literally everything runs on oil while saving us disgusting amounts of money that should be going to things like healthcare and infrastructure. It's also not a short term solution as Democrats suggest, it has been shown time and time again that superabundance is a thing and that a healthy economy is optimal for coming up with the best solutions.
Sadly you are also correct, we really can't compete locally against Taiwan but it really should never have gotten to this point, one way or the other semiconductors are(still) the future and the correct path would be to source locally as much as possible, better for the environment and for national security.
I think he wants to force them to make more chips in the US. It can't be much more expensive because this process is almost fully automated. In this case it's more about leverage/security than American jobs, but could be a smart move. Time will tell.
@@zereimu tariffs make sense for the product that can actually be built in-house, but there are certain products that can't be built inhouse without introducing inefficiencies in the chain. So it would make more sense to put tariffs based on the product not the country they're from. Unless the purpose of tariffs is to initiate a trade war and strong arm other country, my point above is moot.
@@kos15280chip factory in taiwan is a well kept trade secret that has become a lynchpin in taiwan's leverage over the world, one of the reason China hasn't invade taiwan yet but has successfully infiltrated HongKong. US can try to make chip factory anytime they want, but it wouldnt be advanced enough for today's technology.
Would you rather pay 50% income tax?

America will finally be like Switzerland!! LETS GO!!!
The way it is going, it will be more like North Korea.
Even solely from a national security perspective it makes a lot of sense for the USA to implement a USA based advanced microprocessor manufacturing capability.
Protectionism... but how is this forcing TSMC or Samsung to build plants in the US ? The high-end chips will still come from Taiwan and it will only hit Apple, if they don't set assembly plants in VN or Malay or Indonesia. These countries will soon enjoy a huge trade imbalance with the US, and it will not hurt Chinese sales.
Nvidia should have the video game graphics card mfg facility in United States to avoid the import tax and better price for the gamers, we can improve the ops cost too
You think the manufacturing costs will be lower if produced in the US? Post tariff pricing perhaps, otherwise not a chance. It's Nvidia inflating the prices to begin with.
Put tariffs on everything including underwear😂

That won't help to get the cheap production of chips going in the USA.
Tarifs aren't the answer. Just the extra administration and enforcement of the rules will add to the cost of products.

Once implemented well, tariffs are a great tool to save any nation.
Put tariffs on imported goods, give incentives to local producers, place a benchmark on the prices of things, and people wll begin to invest locally.
Everyone realizes it, thank you for copy pasting every liberal media headline. The real dispute is about whether or not the eventual benefits will outweigh the initial price hikes. Trump seems to think so, and very few of the people arguing about this have the knowledge to say whether he is correct or not.
@@lawrenceottih You're right, except US politics who can change all of these keeps changing ideas every 4 years. @@Dubya9W9 well ya'll is a rather large group with different positions. But I'll bite. Tariffs are taxes on consumption which is regressive. Which means the lower your income, the more likely you are to pay a larger portion of your income in the tax. When people say tax the rich, they generally mean a progressive income which is tax the portions of income that are taxed at a higher tax rate or changes to taxes on capital gains.
Everyone income taxes including big business will be reduced or removed. Sales tax will be increased. Likely to 20%.
@@nwshull i see, tax capital gains..because only RICH people have that? what's your next bright idea, tax Loans? lol
@ so you believe in a tax cut on a bill that has to be budget neutral that’s not been proposed yet, to justify a tax hike now? Bills passed through reconciliation, which any significant tax cut has to be with the Senat’es current make up, if you want to avoid a filibuster can’t add to the debt. I doubt it’s a great deal of change. But either way I don’t see how a 20% sales tax is a great deal for anyone especially most working people. The more money you make generally, the lower percentage of that income goes to consumption. So it’s in effect people who earn in the higher income brackets the biggest tax cut. But all of this is really getting away from my point that a tariff is a tax increase on the American consumer. If you believe in raising revenue by making the American consumer pay more for goods and services fine just own it.

@jimliu2560 9 times out of 10 companies will eat it. Mostly because they won't sell anything because the domestic companies will sell it at normal price.
@@jimliu2560 It's likely costs will be decreased at the supplier level to discourage US companies from finding new supply chains. If margins have been very good, it's possible for profits at corporate level to go down, but this is only true in the short run. From there, additional costs typically get passed to consumer, but consumers do not pay the tariff directly. Nvidia will likely have a more expensive supply chain in the short term. If the tariffs stay, there becomes high incentive to build local foundries. That's the basic idea. Hope this helps.

US chip manufacturers pay high amounts to foreign suppliers for the raw materials used in the manufacturing of chips. We will benefit and prices will lower if we begin mining those materials in the US (which we have now found in greater abundance) or getting them from countries other than China. China price gouges the US on the raw materials and then undercuts US chip manufacturers on the price of Chinese produced chips. It’s a vicious circle and we, the US consumer have become so reliant on the technology that we get stuck paying the asking price.

Tariffs are complex. Many comment that they simply add costs to the buyer as the supplier passes them on.
There is some truth to this but it’s more complex:
Firstly if there are no tariffs foreign manufacturers which are subsidised by their own governments can undercut competition until the competition is killed off. In the example of steel this leaves one country dependent on foreign suppliers for all of its needs. This can be extended to many examples and leaves behind economic vulnerability, destroying jobs in the process and ultimately building huge trade deficits.
Also tariffs can be applied selectively.
The US should not need to import energy for example as it has abundant deposits of its own. Energy became very expensive due to excessive regulation and forced closure of many projects.
By applying tariffs and then offering tax incentives for homegrown production inward investment (new capacity) grows.
We will see how things pan out.

“He is the biggest in the world in terms of chips.” Another superb sentence
Doesn't matter, because he can do the job. That's what matters... Not the use of fancy wording. We need a businessman to run this country... He is exactly that
Yep, the point was made. And so were several others in response to multiple questions. In a clear, lucid manner accompanied by a personality tone that authentically attempts to build the brand, USA. Something
I have not observed since the 1980s
@@ptupy straight and to the point...I understood perfectly. Perhaps you prefer Kamala word salad?
He is. Trump Won. Trump won!
@njrmax72 He CAN'T do the job. How is putting tariffs on Canada helping the US???
Why stop there...put tarifs on dirts, rain, prayers, blinking, smiles. 😂
Trump is right about tariffs. Our problem is debt and consumption. We need to buy less from the world and get more money from the world. Get up and work we the people 👍
Trump doesn't know a thing about working like a normal person, or how to survive off a job that doesn't pay enough to even survive on. And he's not fixing that problem either. He doesn't know how to without hurting his butt buddies feelings.
Put a cap on rent so people can survive. But then he'd hurt his real estate buddies feelings.
Yep just never going to happen, watch Rome fall
Put your vegetable picking boots on and get it. With all the ice raids there's going to be plenty of openings 😉
People got used to low inflation which was a direct result of mass globalization and free trade. That will reverse itself as under free trade goods and services flow to places where it's most efficient to make. Without free trade government's put their thumb on the scale of capitalism and force goods to be produced at higher cost domestically or taxes imposed raise prices.
Be careful what you wish for. The unprecedented wealth increase from the late 1980s to present could very well come to a massive slowdown or end.
You do realise US does not make many of these chips and you need them? You can't just decide to go and make chips with circuit the size of atoms ... It takes years to develop the skills and experience.
It worked on Steel. For Tariffs on Chips, who will be the losers and winners and by how much?
Bring our manufacturing back! Let’s go!
This is how we can get our plants back, Lumber-mills as production of wealth, Fantastic work President Trump, God speed, We have everything here to open jobs for everyone

Manufacturing jobs are going to Vietnam, SE Asia, Africa, etc……long before coming back to USA…
How does ~$25/hr American labor compete with ~$5/hr African labor?
Are you going to force companies to take a hit in their profits?
Biden has Nvidia building chip factories in the US a few years ago. You can thank Joe
You do realise the Chinese can make cheap cars by using lots of robots. How are you going to bring jobs back and be competitive when you have unions and an army of over paid workers? US factories will also have to use lots of robots and less humans ...

I think manufacturing jobs are going to Vietnam, India, Africa, etc….way before coming back to US..
How can you compete with the labor cost differences?
I got my XAI308K wallet setup and got in for $7500. Great video 🔥🔥
trump looks exhausted only 11 days in lol
At least he is NOT falling asleep during the press conference, and I think he has already has had as many press conferences as occurred in the previous 4 years. Well, god bless Brandon’s little cotton socks.
Considering he’s answered more questions from the press in 11 days compared to 4 years of sleepy joe, I’d be tired too
His one working brain cell is over taxed with tariffs.
I think a little orange face paint and a little blonde hair dye will touch him right up!! 👱🏾♂️
Trump could run circles around you while taking a power nap.
