Wow! I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. I've been wanting corrugated roofing material. Now I've got to get a piece of the Vollmer plastic roofing and then I can make as much as I want. I've got plenty of Elmer's white glue. Thanks for this very helpful tip. :-) Rusty in eastern Tennessee (Witherington Place Railroad)
I know it's an old video but I still think it's very useful. I do have a question though. How do you prevent air bubbles? I've used the dishsoap beforehand but I still get air bubbles. When the glue is dry it will show as holes in the roof. Is there a way to prevent this? Or is there a way to repair this and fill in the bubbles at least?
Hi! I have never figured out the actual cause of the bubbles really. Some of the roof get plenty, some get almost none.. I’ve tried to heat the glue. I’ve tried thin it, but no.. still bubbles. and no. I have not figured out an efficient way of filling the holes out. This method comes with that as the downside..
Ive been looking for something like that. Im building a barn that has a curve roof and was needing something a little flexible without kinking and would lay down flat on tje curve surface. You think this would work.
Great idea, but in this clip you hurt the one first and fundamental law of model railroading: Never ever put your cup of coffee to near to your layout :-)
Thank you for sharing this information.Iwas thinking of using it for making diesel locomotive safety tread.I have a brass diesel kit for a sd40-2 ,but wanted to try it on a piece to make some for another model that does not have it on the battery boxes where it should.Do you know a type of glue that would work to glue it down or together without a bad reaction? Thanks,Johnny
Doesn't your glued piece end up a negative? It seems like you'd have to make a mold off your styrene sheet, then paint your glue into the mold. That being said, what is the brand name of the styrene sheet? You put the plastic over your mouth just as you say the brand name and it is muffled. I've tried a dozen times and I can't hear the word you say! Thanks!
Hi Sonny! Yes, the mold will be negative (inversed) but it makes no difference since the roof is symetrical. No problems! The plastic roof plate is manufactured by Vollmer (German brand), but I would assume other brands are availabel too, like EverGreen styrene..
Thank You! Evergreen only come in one continuous sheet, not layered like the Vollmer roof. I found a Vollmer piece and bought it last night, All the American online retailers show it out of stock So overseas vendors! I had to pay a ton of shipping, but its on its way! Thanks again
I have learned so much from watching your videos.
I'd never had considered it'd be that easy... easy enough i could do, so Thank You.
Love this! Such a great and economical (always appreciated) idea for model building on a budget.
Thank you very much -- very clever idea. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, tips and advice for building model train railways. Liked/subscribed.

Easiest way I've seen. Thanks for sharing.

+HARPO1ME I use same type of wood glue for the mold as when I fix the roof to the surface.
Thanks
GREATThanks for share
Ingenious!
I'm gonna try this out on fake windows for my wargame terrain.
