  • Deputy Chief Terrell Griffin has been with the Atlanta Police Department (APD) for 32 years. He is part of APD history and has seen a little bit of everything since he became a police officer in the 80s. Much like a pastor is called to preach, Chief Griffin was called into policing to make a difference in the city he loves. He has worked in almost every Zone and every division, while working his way up the chain of command, making a positive impact on those he supervised and those who supervised him. His soft-spoken delivery in teaching, his vast policing knowledge, calm mannerism, and his kindness are what many will tell you that they appreciate most about Griffin. After graduating from college, he could have done anything but he wanted to serve and we are glad he did. They say policing is a family affair and for the Griffin family, this couldn’t be more true. Chief Griffin’s daughter, Teralyn, followed in her iconic father’s footsteps and became an APD officer about 8 months ago. She hit the streets just when the summer 2020 protests started. Here Chief Griffin and his daughter share their thoughts on their career in policing, the George Floyd protests, and what it means to serve.
