    The Pro Tools HD Heat plug in was created by legendary Crane Song designer Dave Hill, genius creator of the Phoenix plug-in, and the Hedd 192 harmonically enhanced digital device. The Heat plug-in allows your ProTools rig to take on a more analog-like quality, with tube and tape saturation emulation, that is unlocked with the purchase of the HEat Plug-in. This impressive Plug-in is available inside the engine of ProTools HD 8.1 and higher, and gets unlocked when you acquire the Heat ilok. This is a remarkable piece of technology that seriously enhances the performance of your ProTools HD rig.

    @yobhsiFehT Thanks for the excellent comment and feedback, we will definitely make sure we don't do this on future videos- there is an awful lot to say about these kinds of plug-ins, while still demonstrate the audio, and still keep these videos at a manageable length. But, your comment is very duly noted. Thanks for the comment and support of our vids!

    MAYBE YOU KNOW THIS:- If you find engaging HEAT shows some significant noise in meters (but you can't hear that and wondering why), especially obvious when a maximizing limiter is engaged : Then insert a sharp low cut filter @ 20Hz at the mixbus (or to any necessary individual channels). This cuts off the infrasonic noise HEAT causes, but not mutating the saturation of our audible range.

    @dustytretch Great Question. Channel 1 and 2 were left/right over the strings. Channel 3/4 spaced pair of mics in the room. Channel 5 (stereo) Bricasti M7 Reverb on an aux buss, Channel 6 Monitoring channel (for recording the video activity), Channel 7 stereo master buss for monitoring in the room

    @Muttills Thanks for the comment, we are really enjoying it here at Sound Pure, please let us know if you have any questions- also, if you are interested, you can order and even receive a discount, right on our website.

    @theguyi26 The purpose is for color and warmth, the kind that previously can only be attained by the use of vacuum tubes and tape machines. This plug-in allows variability to the sound. Obviously it's not for everyone, but a lot of people find the results attained here to be more musical and natural sounding. Others prefer a much cleaner more digital approach to audio. It's really just a tonal/color option intended for those that use HD systems, but lack the analog gear to make these sounds.

    @eurokid12 Our pleasure, no problem, and completely agree- production quality is largely a product of the producer/engineer team, and even with great gear, that's no guarantee. If you need gear, we can sometimes deliver things over there relatively cheap (when we are allowed to), totally depends on the product. Thanks for the support and kind words!

  • @thomaserdmann91

    Does that mean you guys are recording fully digital? Except of course your analog outboard gear. But if you record dry there's no analog mixer in between right? Straight into AD converter. Do you hear any difference as opposed to an analog mixer?

  • @soundpurestudios

    @ricemilk We really do feel like it's well worth the money- I mean, if you are going to have the investment in PT HD, this is a small price to pay for something that actually affects the entire sound that can be used at varying degrees, and entirely at your discretion. Pretty cool that Dave Hill from Crane Song was the creator- that's serious.

  • @soundpurestudios

    @QuietEthic TDM, meaning HD-cards. At this time they do not have a non-TDM version of the software, but we can keep our fingers crossed that they will release it at some point so that it will work Native and on devices like the MBox Pro

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  14 лет назад +1

    @Muttills That's probably true! The new HD Native makes it a lot more attainable, but unfortunately since Heat is a TDM plug-in, it requires an actual HD card such as an HD1 System Card... but, it's worth it... this totally escalated the entire sound of our HD system- a really exciting major upgrade from these guys.

    @wizprodux Thanks, yes, by playing with the pre and post fader controls as well as adding gain on individual tracks, you can definitely achieve more coloration/saturation out of heat. If you REALLY want a good bit of color, you can even consider adding the Crane Song Phoenix plug-in by Dave Hill of Crane Song to supplement Heat on specific channels as well.

    You guys have the most professional audio reviews!

  • @thomaserdmann91
    @thomaserdmann91 14 лет назад

    @soundpurestudios Yeah I think that's the best combination! All the benefits of digital but with some analog touches from your comp/eq etc. And of course in the end it's all about using it right. I've once recorded in a vintage studio with all the 70s Neumans you'd want but I wasn't able to do my own mixing. In the end it sounded pretty shitty anyway. Even with all the analog gear. If I wasn't located at the other side of the world I would check you guys out. But I will someday! Great job again!

    @SkyStudioFilms Please, go ahead and name them. We represent every major plug-in company out there, and own all of them. We are anxious to have you enlighten us... please tell us which plug-ins achieve realistic analog harmonic enhancement. PLEASE! Unless of course you are referring to the Phoenix plug-in from which HEAT is based.

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  14 лет назад

    @eurokid12 Analog definitely adds a signature to it, but that's kind of what Heat is all about- you sometimes feel, in an all digital mix with plug-ins that there is some loss of that analog warmth and saturation, and even with ProTools that can be the case- which makes Heat a useful if not necessary addition, really.

    How exactly were you micing the piano, why are their so many channels ?

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  14 лет назад

    @eurokid12 We mix digital inside protools typically. But yes, we have loads of analog processing that we go in and out of when we mix, and because of HD's ability for real time analog inserts without latency, it's really easy to do- that's where we get our analog fill. We do have an analog mixer in our B-room for those clients that want analog, and sometimes they do. Another option of course is a simple analog summing device, but we don't have one (yet) in the A-room.

  • @gclef101
    @gclef101 13 лет назад

    Hi, what do you mean by adding odd harmonics? Is it odd as in strange or odd as in odd numbers examples 3,5, etc. Thanks!!!

    • @huckwalton2307
      @huckwalton2307 4 года назад

      The Terrer odd as in numbers. There’s a distinct character to even and odd harmonics, similar to the difference between sin and square waves in isolators.

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  13 лет назад

    @gclef101 It is "odd" as in the numerical sense, and relates to the behavior of the harmonic overtones. Different types of analog gear treat these harmonics differently (such as tubes, and transformers), and essentially, it creates an analog-like pleasing form of harmonic overtones. Pretty brilliant creation, really.

    @soundpurestudios wow, the plug in sounds very good considering it is only software.
    It sounds very vintage, most digital emulations of tapes or other old hardware coloration are just too in your face and sound obvious

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  13 лет назад

    @SkyStudioFilms What's fake about it. They make the software, they make the rules. If you develop some really cool new virtual device and decide that the best way to profit from your invention is to pair it with hardware, that's your perogative. If you don't think HEAT is worth the money, don't buy HEAT and don't buy HD. The great thing is, for about 500 bucks you can now have most other ProTools functionality with PT9.

    @SkyStudioFilms I see that you are now trying to derail the comments on another thread... if you want to spout anti-Avid propoganda, please go right ahead, no one is stopping you. That being said, most people come to our channel for information- we understand that you hate Avid. All I can say is get over it. It is the #1 leading software for Audio Production. Don't like that fact, don't buy it, but don't expect to be taken seriously in the audio world. Pretty simple.

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  13 лет назад

    @CapnBooBoo Heat requires the Pro Tools HD (TDM) hardware cards- regardless of the reasons it is simple as that... hackers are trying to get around this fact and unleashing the untested, unreliable, unsupported, and unlicensed use of this professional software. If you are a serious professional, that's not an option. Guys who hack and pirate plug-ins do so not only at their own peril, but the peril of their studio clients. Pro Studios and Video/Audio production aren't going to consider it

  • @soundpurestudios
    @soundpurestudios  13 лет назад

    @CapnBooBoo Regardless of processing power, Heat is not simple- it runs independently on each channel creating a holistic sound. Try running the Phoenix plug in from Crane Song accross a 36 channel mix without an HD card- yikes! You and StudioSkyFilms continue to go back to the same point, everyone hears you, you don't think you need HD to run it. And the fact remains that HEAT requires and HD card to run. Don't shoot the messenger, it is a requirement that ProTools has made- sorry.

    @mab1ro Thanks a lot for the note! thanks to showmein- he beat us to your answer. Essentially it is like a midi interface, but the interface control is through the cat5 connection which allows for a lot more functionality (and data) to flow between the board and the computer. This is the same technology that Quphonix is using essentially in their smaller Artist-series devices, which are also incredible little tools. We love the functionality of our big D-command, but there is nothing analog...
