I’ll never forget that week. My birthday was that Saturday (I was turning the wise old age of 22)and I had started saving for these and rockband the moment they were announced so I could afford all 3 on release day. One of the most fun days in Beatledom I got to experience!

I've held on to my CD mono box set. It's a great package, I really like that they thought to include the mono version of The White Album and dug up the mixes intended for the Yellow Submarine soundtrack EP.

A little over a year later, but here's my experience with the 2009 remasters:
I wasn't really into the Beatles at the time (at least, not as much as I am now) and was perfectly content with their 1 compilation since 2000. But, I do remember the hype around these remasters.
A couple of years later (2010 or 2011) I started wanting to collect Beatles albums. No longer content with just the songs included on 1 (which was missing Here Comes The Sun, Good Day Sunshine, Strawberry Fields Forever, and Drive My Car, just to name a few popular Beatles songs I was also familiar) I started buying the stereo CDs individually. Kinda glad I did - I don't have the ink bleed thing that your cd's seem to have. Plus, it allowed me to discover the Beatles different eras one at a time - almost in real time.
I remember specifically being blown away by Rubber Soul. Aside from Drive My Car, I hadn't heard any of the other songs ever. And Nowhere Man especially totally blew me away. Had never heard a song as beautifully crafted as that before.
By the time I made it to Let it Be in 2014, I heard about the differences in the Mono mixes (different takes, more instruments, other differences etc.) and decided to hunker down and get the Mono box set. Was worried that I got a fake when it came in Japanese packaging, but I've since discovered that it's a genuine Japanese copy. None of the albums are fake, and as a bonus, the Japanese version comes in a slightly tubbier box - which is a tad bit stronger, and inside it includes a lyric booklet with every song's lyrics, album by album, in Japanese and English. (Good thing, 'cause I only know English)
I've heard elsewhere that supposedly Japanese CDs are generally of higher quality pressings too - so that's an added bonus!
Regardless, I've been listening to both the Stereo and Mono 2009 remasters for 6 years now, and I love every single one! The albums (both mono and stereo) are well-produced & accurate cover recreations, and the mixes are just fantastic. As a musician, the 2009 versions are like ice cream and birthday cake - I can clearly make out the drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, and even vocal harmonies independently (something you can't do with the old 1987 versions, or even some vinyl) AND everything is just so well balanced and punchy, whilst still staying true to the original mixing decisions back in the 1960s.
Honestly, the Beatles are one of the only bands where I like every single album, and just about every single song. Sure, there are other artists I love (some even more than the Beatles) but with nobody else can I pop in a random song and know I'll enjoy it! I recommend the 2009 remasters to any and all music lovers. And especially to Beatles fans!
Recently, I've been getting the Giles Martin remasters (Sgt. Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road) but, I have to say, I think I prefer the 2009 remasters - especially the mono of Sgt. Pepper. The new mixes try and pan things around differently (sometimes good, sometimes bad) and change the volume & presence of the different instruments - which is something I don't like. A handfull of Giles' mixes IMO are equal or even better than the originals, but the majority are inferior and even unlistenable! Good thing I can always fall back on the 2009 versions! They were excellent back then, and they're still excellent now!
Thanks for your video! I really enjoy hearing others talk about these. I really do think they're the only way to listen to the Beatles on CD. So clean, faithful to the originals, and immensely powerful!

@@sethtruscello6227 I ended up getting the 1987 cds too. (they’re dirt cheap, and some albums/songs are better than the 2009 counterparts)
If you read my post, you’ll see that I bought the 2009s piecemeal starting before they were even on streaming. So the CDs. I may be a fish upstream, but I dislike streaming (both movies/tv and music), so I stick to buying physical - aside from Pandora, which I rarely listen to anyway.

I got my mono boxset back in late 2016, bought off Amazon, was worried it would be a fake though. I noticed on Sgt. Pepper that the text on the spine read the wrong way to the other albums and there was a misprint - 'Sgt. Peppers', so I had a big panic but have been informed that's how the original LP was.

    Hi andrew.
A good celebration of these two box sets.
A late reaction from my side, because I was in Liverpool this weekend. Later this week I post a few videos on my tiny RUclips channel.
These box sets deserve this 10 years celebration.
When they were released it was like discovering The Beatles once again. There were sounds you"ve never heard on the original 1987 cd's.
The most exiting box set for me at the realease day was the mono set. I've never heard these albums in real mono before.
And the stereo one was a very good upgrade.
    They both sounds amazing.
I still prefer some songs of the stereo version of The White Album 2009 version over the 2018 Giles Martin remix. Helter Skelter especially.
But, at the end of the day, these are two must have sets.

Not only do I remember the hype, but I also remember the entire catalogue living up to the hype, perhaps surpassing it. I bought the individual stereos in chronological order, and was blown away by the sound and the mix. That was just in the car stereo - when I got them on my home stereo was an even better experience. the same went for the MONO CDs which took forever to save up for because you couldn't get those individually, but you COULD get the LPs individually 5 years later. I've never bothered with the stereo remaster LPs, thinking it would be just a 12" plastic CD, but I did get those mono LPs. Brilliant sound.

I was really excited of learning about the Beatles mono and stereo box that I didn’t buy them right away, because I didn’t have a lot of money at the time.
When I had enough money over $2000 worth I decided well I’m going to buy those boxes so I went to my favorite music store which is music millennium here in Portland Oregon, and I couldn’t wait to listen to those albums.
I love the Beatles music ever since I was 11 and I first got introduced to the Beatles when I bought my first album which was please please me the 1987 albums they were great at that time but over the years I felt the cities were really murky and they weren’t really improved upon us for sound quality is concerned..
When I heard all of the Beatles remastered in stereo and mono I thought to myself wow this is one of the best experiences I have ever had I have never even heard of the rest of the Beatles in mono catalog I’ve only heard the first four albums please please me with the Beatles a hard days night and Beatles for sale.

I preordered the stereo set to pick up my local Best Buy the day of release. It got back ordered somehow. I was in there a week or two later checking if it was in and still getting told no. Went and looked there sat a set on the shelf, I grabbed it, went back to the service counter with my email confirmation and asked what is this. Luckily they let me take that one home. It is easily one of my favorite things.
I too for some reason skipped on getting the Mono set initially, and also finally picked it up about five years ago now. I got burned on my first attempt with a fake version. Luckily PayPal was able to get my money back. My second attempt I bought a used set that clearly showed all the pictures of the disc so I knew I was getting the genuine set. My biggest tip to buying one now. Kicking myself because about a year after the initial release I had seen a set at our Best Buy and passed a second time getting it. Two of my absolute favorite box sets though.

I even love the Beatles stereo box that on vinyl which is great.
I noticed a couple of differences in the mono and stereo. One of the songs which is baby you’re a rich man there’s an echo effect in the manual next but you don’t have any stereo that would’ve been great but it’s still a good song.
I love the warbler fact on Lucy in the sky with diamonds of John Lennon focus on the mono mix it gives it that dreamy like quality what you don’t get on the stereo mix

NO: the early "Beatles" "stereo" were NOT PANNED. In fact, the standard was to record all the music on one of two tracks, and all the vocals on the other track -- which is why the "hole in the middle" -- and then mix them to MONO. Those were PRE-MIXED MONO, because MONO was the market, and the goal was radio airplay, which was MONO.
Martin explains that in his "All You Need is Ears". He trashed the FAKE "stereo" -- unmixed PRE-MIXED MONO -- that were released by EMI once "The Beatles" hit.

Ah, I remember it like it was 'yesterday!'
That day in April when somebody made the first post on the upcoming remasters on the SH Forum, wow, the place was on fire! Those threads are now legendary, lol - THE BEATLES REMASTERS ARE FINALLY COMING!! I actually asked for 090909 as a day-off from work and went and cued outside my local record shop that morning to get my box set bright and early. Couldn't wait to get back home and then proceeded to listen to the entire discography from start to end, with a break in the afternoon just to have something to eat. I had been waiting for those remasters for several years at that point and never bought the original CDs ( apart from Rubber Soul and 'Pepper' ) because I really wanted to hear the music more fleshed out. Oh, it was amazing to finally hear something like The White Album for the very first time, having only heard a few songs from it until that moment...! I also changed it up so that Abbey Road was the last record I listened to. So emotional! And to think of all the stuff that has come out since then, it's quite mind boggling. But those original remasters will always be remembered as THE event - well, perhaps in a few weeks time the Get Back documentary series will finally upend it 😀

I was shocked to find out the mono LP's are out of print now. I used to get them from ebay for $20 to $25 a piece, but now they're $150 if you can find one.

I got very lucky and got my mono vinyl box just weeks before prices started going crazy.

I’m curious why the ‘87 Rubber Soul CD had gold colored title as opposed to the red title it originally had

Not sure! Wouldn't surprise me if "lack of attention to detail" was a factor, the US version was more gold than red wasn't it? Maybe they used that? As you can tell, I don't know the answer! 😄

Andrew Dixon That’s quite alright. I welcome speculation

Hi Andrew, I bought the Stereo Set as soon as it came out but could only get it from the States I think through Amazon at the time. Is there really much difference between these cds & the re mastered (again) Sgt Peppers & White Album box sets? Your thoughts.Meant to say I actually won the original 1987 Box Set in a competition. I know before the 87' releases there was in Japan an Abbey Rd Cd released which would probably be collectable now!

The new Sgt Pepper and White Album sets (remixes rather than remasters) are very different to what you will have heard before, I like them very much, many people don't!
With the White Album for example, I could argue that almost every song on last year's version is the best it's ever sounded, but overall it doesn't quite feel like The White Album, it doesn't feel as dark and moody.

How does the White Album remaster, compare to the remaster, a few years earlier?

Is it really ten years? I was so happy when these came out after 22 years of the first cd issues. Still really enjoy them and the mono box.
Looking forward to Let It Be this year!
P.S. May I ask where you got your shelves?

Great stories indeed Andrew, thanks for your input and analysis!
Nowadays you find copies of this Stereo set on ebay, do you think it's likely they are counterfeit ones or does the box set still sells?

There are originals for sale but undoubtedly there are fakes for sale, so try and buy from the most reputable place you can! There's videos on RUclips on how to spot a likely fake, might be worthy watching some of those for some tips on what to look for.

I do think the 87 CDs are better sgt peppers onwards as they are flat transfers of the master tapee

@@AndrewDixonMusic I've heard there were fake stereos. I'm glad I decided to get my sets at bricks and mortar shops.

Hope they don't improve sound every 10 years..? The new box set versions, means people buying them all again after 2009 remasteres?
