    Sculptamold is actually sold in 1.36kg bag, this means it's slightly better value than stated in this video - Also, consider becoming a patreon if you enjoy my videos - www.patreon.com/TerrainMadeEasy

    So last year when everyone was buying TP in bulk, it wasn't for going to the toilet. They just anticipated the lock-down and were getting a head start on a new hobby :D
    Awesome video!

    I mix the plaster and add loo roll, but then use a cheap hand blender (£5 Asda) to purée it further. Only a few seconds is enough to make it quite a bit smoother and ensure it’s very thoroughly mixed. For general ground cover (ie no rocks), I mix toilet paper with water, then blend with a squirt of brown paint or some brown mortar tone/dye. When mixed with the plaster, this gives a good base colour that doesn’t need to be painted before you apply flock etc.

    Sculptamold needs a good mix up in the bag before you go to use it. A lot of the plaster ends up in the bottom of the bag, so I always add a bit more to it when I mix some up since I always have plaster on hand.

    • @TerrainMadeEasy
      @TerrainMadeEasy  3 года назад

      Yeah that's true, I was tempted to sppoon in some plaster for that reason myself

  • @barryslemmings31

    I do home-made using toilet paper which has been shredded in water, dried in an oven and then run through a second-hand food blender to shred it. I add plaster-of-Paris but I also add a little PVA or acrylic medium to make it smoother and stick easier. I've had good results.
    Barry

    • @TerrainMadeEasy
      @TerrainMadeEasy  3 года назад

      The shredded paper is like the normal way of making it, I am skipping it purely for time but at a cost of quality, I do think pva or something is something I should try!

    • @barryslemmings31
      @barryslemmings31 3 года назад

      @@TerrainMadeEasy
      My thinking is that the PVA will help it to adhere to a surface and also slightly harden it and resist chipping. Experience so far suggests that it may also act as a retarder and give you a little more working time to smooth out. It may help to smooth it out. I have bought some acrylic medium (as an alternative) but not tried it yet but - in theory - the medium should also work. I add about 5% PVA when mixing plaster and water. I have also used a little thin PVA in the smoothing process to dip my finger or spatula into. Spatula? I normally use an old stainless steel spoon. The curved side is good for shaping while the square end of the handle can be used to detail the material or poke it into small holes in the base material.

    I recently purchased some of Geek Gaming Base Ready Flock.
    I got Fields of New Zealand and Mediterranean Soil.
    I found that Fields of New Zealand seem to have lots of dirt, but some bases that have enough green do look great.
