    His life story isn't far from typical in the Hollywood of his era. There were plenty of abusive, cruel people that felt no remorse for their actions in public or in private. Also, Jerry Lewis and Jerry LEE Lewis are not the same person. Fire your photo editor.

    They would bring in 10 kids at a time to Lewis' office, and we stood in a semicircle around his desk as Jerry looked for the right face. He very funny mimicked me because I was chewing gum. Benny was the final judge when it came down to me and the other kid, and he picked the other kid.

      @@robertr8386 You meant to say "If Jerry was so rotten to his kids, then why did Gary perform on his father's telethon? Why did one of his other kids donate his time to the telethon?" You need to capitalize "Jerry" since that's an official name, and you didn't spell "was" correctly. The word "was" is spelled "W-A-S" not "W-A-W". You also need to put a space between the comma and the word "then" and you need to capitalize "Gary". You also don't need to put a comma after the word "kids" and you didn't spell "telethon" correctly the second time you typed it. The word "telethon" is spelled "T-E-L-E-T-H-O-N" not "T-E-L-E-H-O-N".

    I believe he was put up on a pedestal by Hollywood and he would use his power over females because of his low self esteem because he was never quite the leading man like dean Martin and other more serious and dramatic actors so he pushed his comedic talents to the hilt and gained a foothold on becoming a director of some of his movies and used that to get back at females he felt he could never win their admiration any other way, he was very funny in my opinion but once i found out all this i lost a lot of respect for someone i grew up watching in movies and actually looked forward to his movies, sad that things sometimes turn out this way i hope he found peace with our maker because i do believe in the end that is what really counts.

      I was a nurse who did home care for MD patients back in the early 80s and believe me I grew to resent the MDA. If the patient was news worthy material the mda couldn't do enough for them and used them to promote the organization for more donations while other patients couldn't even get a wheelchair when they needed one. I only had one family the mda helped out of the dozen or so I assisted. That family had a financial advantage already and they were two brothers whose father bought them a record store (it was back in the late 70s early 80s!) And this garnered much publicity so the mda made sure they had the latest equipment and adapted van and lots of publicity while my other patients who were disadvantaged and in greater need were ignored or blown off by the organization. To say I was disgusted by them (the mda, not the brothers) is an understatement.

      From what I have read about Jerry, he had a very cruel, abusive father who delighted in humiliating him. Sadly the “sins of the father” passed on to Jerry. This does not excuse him for his abusive behavior toward others. Comedian Johnathan Winters, a true comic genius, was by all reports a good man, even though he also had an abusive father. Winters was emotionally fragile and was periodically hospitalized for mental illness - likely bipolar disorder. But he was never cruel like Jerry. Perhaps if Jerry would have sought 3:07 counseling, but likely fame at a young age was corrupting for him. Dean, by all reports, was a very loving father and, despite his onstage persona, did not abuse alcohol. TCM has shown a great documentary of Dino’s life.

A gifted wise cracking showman .... he wanted to be the same as those he worked with - Dean Martin for one .... which was a clear fantasy world ideology as Martin was BETTER LOOKING, CHARMING & Funny without stooping to cheap shot antics or buffoonery ! Jerry did not handle his limited skills well ...... I'm sure many paid a price for the power wielded in unkind moods !

He charged almost all of his living expenses to the Foundation as well as a hefty fee for being their spokesman and host of the annual telethon. I read that he was so flagrant in his monetary abuses that there was cause to bring criminal charges, but it was felt it would hurt donations too seriously. They decided to sever ties with Lewis.

    His treatment of his first wife and children was so unkind. Also, Jerry never admitted that he was the father of a baby girl, born out of wedlock. Sadly when she grew older, she became penniless and was living on the streets. Out of all his children ( 6 boys ) she looked the most like him ) He knew she was struggling and never supported her through out her later years. Frank Sanitra did the same feathering a baby girl born out of wedlock... she also looked the most like Frank then any of his other children. It's difficult to understand his selfishness by leaving nothing to his biological children , and giving all his wealth to his second wife and a non biological daughter. It's so tragic, that I can't love and respect him as a great actor ect... like I use too as a child. 😢

      Part of a huge trend that makes people click because of the drama, and smears all old, classic American icons and culture. Almost as if there's a big movement to destroy our culture and make everything and everyone that was once thought of as good, as bad.

      When she had to take over after her divorce - act in, produce, and run the entire Studio - as well as raise 2 kids she became a bit tighter and more demanding. Never have I heard her being called a horrible person. (More demanding, yes)

      @@LJ-ht4zs My ex husband said he once met her in Disneyland and she was quite gracious. I did hear she insisted Vivian Vance had to keep on weight so she would always be the frumpy side kick. As the Charlie Rich song say, "No one knows what goes on 'Behind Closed Doors."

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs 5 месяцев назад +7

      @@janestarr4403 The reason Vivian was asked to keep the same weight she was hired at - was nothing to do with Lucy - it was because she was supposed to look like the wife of Fred Mertz over 20 years her senior - not to look like his daughter. Also the frumpy look again they were supposed to be landlords, less economically successful as the Ricardos. I considered the Ricardo/Mertz The Fabulous Four - every one in the cast was brilliant in their role which made it the best loved/funniest sitcom of its time. (to me forever)

      @@LJ-ht4zs Landlords, people who own a building don't have money? That's an interesting concept! Vivian's looking overweight to match Fred defies how Alice wasn't overweight when she was married to Ralph in "The Honeymooners."
      Your thesis is flawed by both of your arguments. Vivian's contract demanded couldn't lose weight. Granted, Ethel couldn't look like a runway model in her role, but remaining heavy in contrast to Lucy's slender figure doesn't seem fair.. If she would have been thinner, she would seemingly be more compatible as a friend in their roles. Going back to my 'Honeymooners' example, both Alice and Trixie were close friends and the same body type. In fact, Trixie appeared to be financially better off than Alice. Meadows remained the star because of the script writers. Ethel always following Lucy in her antics is not reasonable if Ethel was an older, more respected character. In a script, Ethel should have tried, even if unsuccessful, to deter Lucy's schemes instead of a weak follower into Lucy's antics. Ethel would have less screen time, but to be a willing partner in Lucy's antics even though

    I grew up watching him. Hew was a genius. But, then I watched an inview he did in America in his later years. He was downright rude. Awful man. The poor chap that did the interview did his best. But Jerry Lewis was an absolute pig. So sad. 😢

    It's Always interesting to look how a powerful person handles having a powerful Jupiter and behaving naturally like Zeus when in ' the moment ' he knew he had a certain power and he used his charm to make people laugh at him , it's not that obvious . In Europe you're as popular as your best work , always . Not in America where it's what have you done for me lately . So in Europe there's only older artists who imitated Charlie Chaplin then Jerry , as there was nothing better . Bringing the big guy down always the theme , notice many of his films begin in a boardroom whereupon he slowly turns it upside down . Bad ego yes , great artist of his craft absolutely 🎉
