How Two Pigs Changed the World (AMG Red Pig and Porsche Pink Pig)

- This is a story of unlikely underdogs, breaking stereotypes, incredible people, and two pigs - the Mercedes AMG Red Pig and the Porsche Pink Pig
I'd seen pictures of the Porsche 917/20 and hefty 300 SEL 6.3 race car before, but didn't realize how many ties were shared between the two. When I found out they both reached their peak in 1971, the the year of the pig on the Chinese zodiac calendar, I thought this might be a fun way to share both of their stories. What I found was more interesting than I ever would've guessed, so I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it!
As always, thank you for your support and putting up with me butchering German words:)
Also a big shout out to summoning salt ( / summoningsalt ) for inspiring me to make these videos and introducing me to all these incredible artists

Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it
@@HuntersMoon bro your way to documented these videos is out of this world man, youre definitely a one of one or one of a kind. keep up the good work man!
U should do mor documentaries if you want to it's like a calmer ver of up to speed
Came here to comment the same thing.. Love the vids.. Keep at it. The algorithm will submit eventually...
Some important info about the 1955 Le Mans race, the Jaguar that caused the crash was driven by Mike Hawthorn (1958 F1 champion) who had a tendency of doing dangerous things on and off track (which ends in tragedy for him in the end), the teammate Pierre Levegh showed the hand-signal to behind him was none other than "El Maestro" Juan Manuel Fangio who always maintained, that last moment signal from Levegh saved his life otherwise he wouldn't have slowed down on the straight. Fangio was also teamed with the great Sir Stirling Moss in that race. John Fitch, Levegh's teammate was greatly affected by his passing, and devoted his time to improving safety in motorsport, road infrastructure, and automobiles.
And an interesting fact about Pierre Levegh, he almost won the 1952 Le Mans single handedly driving a Talbot when he drove the whole race by himself, ending in the final hour when he suffered engine failure while he was leading by 4 laps.
RIP Pierre Levegh tho. The devastation Fitch felt led Alfred Neubauer to withdraw Mercedes after Moss took the lead iirc
Good thing he didn't let his ego get the best of him and humbled after.
The research and storytelling is insane. You deserve so much more love
An easy piece of research would be to learn how to pronounce Porsche (Pour-sha).

It’s so sad how the algorithm works. A very hard working and extremely skilled RUclipsr like you doesn’t get the exposure he deserves. Your videos are amazing and very very detailed. I’m sure you invest alot of time in it. I really hope you blow up. God bless you.
A strange thought I've had over the last 24 hours, prior to even watching this video. Imagine building a car, that changes everything. One car that is so influential that it inspires and draws others in. Be it from Hollywood, a race team, or even just a one-off builder like Magnus Walker and others. That's the dream right there as a car enthusiast. The ultimate goal. Build something you love, and for the love of building it, while accidentally changing perspective on things.
Lexus LFA
@@JupaGordan Murray built the McLaren F1 with that passion, just wanted a somewhat higher end Honda NSX, had no idea he was actually building the first real hypercar.
Friend: "I'll do that when pigs fly"
Me: "Ight bet when you doing it?"
5:07 that plate number😂

I love that picture haha
@@HuntersMoon guess what. Me too😂
I've always am a Porsche fan as I was a kid,who got to see the 917's in all their iterations my dad was a car nut and would take me to the Glen,Daytona, and Sebring, the years where 68, 69,70 and 71.
But the red beast that I saw in a couple of sport mags that covered racing in Europe just blew a eight year old's mind, I thought how could a chunky clunky car be so competitive without knowing I became a Mercedes racing fan since the fall 71. Keep doing this format its great!!!!!!
This is the kind of content that I love to see and is very difficult to find. I knew that the Mercedes had some race success, although I didn't know the details or that it was called a Pig. I've been a massive Porsche fan for several decades. Porsche's racing success is second to none. Please keep up the good work. Thank you.
You will be ranked amongst some of the best car enthusiasts RUclipsrs ever. Your research, dedication and ability to tell a story well is truly remarkable. I have no doubt you will be very wealthy because it shows you love what you do. Have faith and preserverance and you will be a household name. Trust!
You are the best automotive youtuber! No misinformation, no clickbait, just pure facts that is structured in a way that isn’t very bland. Love it!
A individual who talks his passion and knowledge will always stand head n shoulders above the individual just chasing camera time. Well done 👏 Whilst many think they are the subject, you keep the focus on the subject of your content 🙌. Count how many times you use the words 'I & ME" in your content . Then compare to your peers 😎
Thanks for the video dude! I'd always assumed that porsche was sponsored by a butcher! If you dig obscure porsches, maybe you should check out The Belgrade Phantom.
Great suggestion! You were the only person to mention that car, but I'm really glad you did! I'm uploading the video now
Always wanted a story that combine the two German pigs. Good work with creating this!
I really love all of your videos! The story of the original M coupe is always a nice one to tell around the campfire for me!
Thanks! I've never heard that story but I'll definitely look into!
Your channel deserves more love! I’ve been enjoying these story telling type videos keep up the great work man.
Just found this story!! I Have Three Loves from Porche! 356! 917! The Older School 911 Look( Those Curves and Whale Tail)! Everybody WENT Lightweight? AMG Said " Bigger Is Better!!" Never Underestimate the Underdog!

Thanks Spencer, I appreciate it!
Why is this Underated, why just why!!!????
The high light of this episode, probably a commonly used term but I never heard a rotary engine referred to as Dorito powered.
Love sleepers, but the truffle hunter wins for me in name alone 🤣
By far my favorite channel 😉👍🏁
Like I se others saying, this channel is too good to remain unknown. Everyone who sees this should show this to someone they know will appreciate and pass it on.
Just found your channel an from the history content I've seen already you got me hooked the mid night 911 was one of the best car culture docos I've watched well done good sir love from Australia

I subbed today. What pushed me over the line: exposing how to understand German humor
Another great video. Thanks for putting these together
Keep these rolling man! These are the stories that make me have a deeper connection with all things automotive. :) Awesome stuff
Loved your MID NITE video. A lot of work goes into the research and you do a great job of outlining it all in a good automotive story for the enthusiasts. I subbed!
Just discovered this channel and love it, the storytelling aspects are amazing keep it up!
Which of these 2 cars is your favourite?
Merc looks beautiful
The pig (duh)
Another video from the most underrated youtuber... I am seriously not surprised that there are "long" breaks in between videos, they are always packed with info about the theme.
One word can describe this whole channel, and that is:
Amazing.
Really enjoyed this and i think the car world is so fascinating with endless stories to be unearthed and told (by you)! Excellent research and proper storytelling is a rare combo and I cannot wait for more content from you my friend!
This channel is going to blow up! I'm with you man; Porsche is my favorite brand of cars, but the Mercedes Red Pig is the one for me in this case.
You put a great deal of thought & information as well as research into your videos.
So well put together. Cheers
This channel is going to explode. Definitely the stuff I want to listen to/watch while working. Keep it up man!

Thank You Hunters Moon, great video!!
Always love these storytime type of car history videos, you've won my sub and support
You really struck a chord with us car enthusiasts with your videos hope to see more of your awesome videos about car culture keep it up man !!!!!
I stumbled onto your channel by chance. On that note, by chance, can you do an episode on the journey Hyundai has taken since the early 80's. I don't mean just the drastic change in quality and reputation, but also what led to milestones like the Tiburon, Genesis Coupé, "Taos" V8 engine, their recent "Theta" engine issues and subsequent redemption and their lastest "N" brand. In the opinion of many, Hyundai has become a forerunner in performance EVs along with I.C.E. vehicles like the Elantra N. I suppose having designers and engineers from the likes of Audi, Volkswagen, and BMW, to name a few, has really helped. Id love to see something outlining that interesting story a bit more in depth. Subscribed !
I just found your channel yesterday with the Touge and Under Suzuki video. Your documentaries are suck high quality! Keep up the great work!
Many have said it already, but this channel is going to explode. Very entertaining and informative stuff. Keep it up

This was so dope! Make more like this!!!
I LOVE THIS SERIES PLEASE DO MORE 💙💙💙
One of the great racing stories of all time ! Thanks from old New Orleans 😎
Love the video and love your content. I worked for Porsche for a few years here in the states and have spent countless hours at PCNA in Atlanta at the museum and the classic workshop on work trips. One small nitpick I pass on every chance I get under direct orders from the mother ship, Porsche is a two syllable name. Por-sha not Porsh
Thanks Samuel! It's funny actually worked for Porsche too, although we were told not say Por-sha here in Canada as it sounded pretentious to some haha. I think with these video those I'll say it properly going forward!
Love this content! Keep it up!
this is my new favorite youtube channel keep the hard work
I've subbed and I really hope you keep making these top quality videos!
Thanks for the upload! Very informative video! Good job!

your channel is such a hidden gem, you deserve way more subs. great vid as always!
As far as I know, the last original Waxemberger Mercedes-Benz is in the Mobilia automotive museum, Finland. It used to belong to the late magazine publisher Urpo Latinen.
Great work! Looking forward to the next one. Subbed.
Patiently waiting for the next video!!!
Took a while, but we're there!
So many great motorsport stories, I am glad to have found you.
Your videos are so nice to watch. Just in line with all great documentaryesk type of videos of other channels. Tho you deserve to be brought up in sub count definitely!

your channel is a gem, keep it going!!!
What a great video! Cheers
Red Pig for the win!!! Porsche obviously are the OGs... But in this case....
Amazing video, can't wait to see you grow
Loving the channel mate, I've just marathon watched a bunch of your awesome videos. You've done so well with research & entertaining videos, certainly an underrated channel....I'd love for you to cover the Australian Touring car battles between the "Godzilla" R32 Skyline & Sierra Cosworth in the 90's, which resulted in both models being outlawed for being too fast against the Aussie muscle
Thanks Boonce! I kind of stumbled upon that topic when I was looking for R32 footage for the intro of this video. I'll definitely read into it more, sounds like a cool story!
@@HuntersMoon that's what made me think of it lol, good ol' Godzilla, was a force to behold, still is
New subscriber here, I just watched your midnight/wolf video and then this one. You deserve more recognition bro. Well done.
I absolutely love your style of story telling hope you find great success on youtube 👏
deep research really great video!!! TOO UNDERRATED!!
Instantly subscribed mate, awesome content!
Great work ! Easy to follow and very interesting.
HE IS BACK! Please upload more videos like this
the summoning salt music makes any video better
Thanks for amazing story about both cars.
I have to say that regular even stock 300 SEL 6.3 is quite an experience. It is rather amazing combination of incredible engine, quite sharp 4-speed auto that does not have torque convertor and self-leveling air suspension. People are always surprised how civilized yet not modern it feels. Cannot imagine how would the engine feel with radical camshafts at 6000+ rpm.
Earned my sub! Your vid’s are great idk how you don’t have more subs
Thanks Judah!
Thes videos are really good I love these I can’t stop watching them
Waxenberger actually raced a 300 SEL 6.3 himself, a precursor of which the 6.8 is based, at Macau Grand Prix in 1969 winning the race. Waxenberger somewhere between 6 and 8 Waxenberger 300 SEL 6.3s were made, and the only one known to exist is in Finland with Mobilia museum in Kangasala, owned by local newspaper mogul Urpo Lahtinen. There isn't an amount of money that Mr. Lahtinen would be willing to sell it for and believe me, some well-known parties have indeed tried.
Finally a video about the red pig and pink pig in one video
Great story Bro 👍
The first Video i watched of you was on the Yoshida Specials 930 and it was great
Keep going and you'll hopefully achieve greatness
