If Time and Space, as sages say, are things which cannot be...doesn't matter , my friend, if you found this now....music has no boundaries specially when we are in front of such wonderful tone.
Every word you are saying could be transcribed poetry. I've just watch Everything Everything playing To The Blade, which has brought me here. What a beautiful instrument!
I love the Celtic horse on the head stock of this guitar its beautiful and the the guitar has a beautiful exceptional voice incredible playing, tremendous mood lifting music.🤩👍
So good to hear a tenor masterfully played in its original tuning of C-G-D-A instead of Chicago tuning that I'm hearing in most other videos. Thank you for transporting us with your music!
I've loved the tenor guitar for years! I'm a big Kingston Trio fan and general folk music fanatic. Nick Reynolds and Rick Dougherty have played tenor guitar in DGBE tuning in the band it adds so much to the Trio's sound. Guitar, banjo and tenor guitar are the instuments they used and I made a point of owning and playing all three. I have a pretty nice, if old, tenor guitar and I love it to pieces. It has such a lovely voice.
When a MUSICIAN plays , whatever the instrument something great occurs . RICHARD DURRANT is one on top . Few years ago I aquired one of this tenor guitar ( a 1940 DI MAURO ) and when you are used to common six strings guitar the tenor brings you fresh ideas .....and RICHARD literally opens a new world with unlimited horizon . THANKS a lot to share and offer your unique talent Mr. RICHARD DURRANT .
@Robert Shorthill at first sight you make a G instrument instead a C one . i would like more details about the scale ( neck length ) and the strings ( gauge ) and the G frequence as the reference to tune the following fifths. I dont know anyting about double strings and 8 keys mandolin . Thanks FOR ANY DETAILS
@Robert Shorthill Thanks a lot ROBERT for yours detailed and kind explanations . You answer my question and I guess what to add as the G note must be tuned at 391.395 hz ( according the A 440 hz reference ). I shall follow your idea and build an electric GDAE with the most accurate ratio scale/ strings . I am lucky enough to share neighbourhood and friendship with the WILD CUSTOM team and their workchop is full of all kind of necks and bodies . First is to visit the attic and choose available parts .!! Have a good day .
@Robert Shorthill Added info : my tenor guitar scale is 575 mm ( 23'' inches ) and my tenor banjolin scale is 535 mm ( 21 , 4 '' inches ) . Both are tuned CGDA and I've used the same set of strings : 009 - 016 - 023 - 030 . if I had to compare I should say the BANJO is more short of breath beyond the 7th fret ....but I think the percussive tone of the banjo lacks naturally some sustain . If I build the lower tenor tuned GDAE I think I shall use the gibson byrdland short scale ( 23 - 1/2 '' ) . Best regards to ROBBY my MONTANA's fellow !
That was wonderful. This is one of my favourite tenor guitar moments- it is part of something a lot "bigger" and is great. Stick this into the YT search box: After You've Gone (1934) Gene Austin
that was lovely! I’m mainly a ukulele player and I have a tenor guitar tuned in Chicago tuning, with a low fourth string. my ukes are mainly soprano size and I have two concert scale ukulele. they are tuned re-entrant in gCEA. I also have a sopranino uke, tuned cFAD. my tenor guitar stands in for a baritone ukulele. the upshot is I can use the same chord shapes on the whole range and all I have to do is remember what key they’re playing in.
As an experiment, I built one some years ago, with a fanned fret fingerboard and multiple scale lengths to give the bass strings a bit more length. The soundboard was a bit stiff and it sounded a bit tinny, but a heavier bridge brought the tone down and fuller. It was not a masterwork, but it was fun to noodle around with. I gave it to a young guy, in recognition of his fortitude to curb his substance abuse for over a year. He's still going strong after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. I wonder if he still has it and plays it.
I was curious as to what a tenor guitar was like, and what a great intro to one too! Now I know how one should sound! Only remembered you halfway through and it took me back to a most marvelous evening when you, and a young lady with a lovely voice , entertained us in our tiny church in the sleepy Lincolnshire village of Belchford in the days of the rural touring scheme.Enjoyed chatting to you about all things musical in our local hostilary afterwards. Seem to think we had a similar interest in melding electronic and real instruments together.
Aloha Braddah Richard! Sounds very ancient....medieval....FANTASTIC! Very artistic playing there Richard! A professional production. Mahalo nui loa for sharing!
Richard your wonderful playing inspired me to get a tenor guitar. Thank you very interesting addition to my regular guitar. I’ve been sharing this video, well done!
Playing the banjo in a Dixieband, I've have a few days ago bought a Tenorguitar - and its really a suprise. Specially popsongs from the 70s and 80s or old jazz-melodies seem to like the sound of this little guitar. What Richard was playing in his video is really wunderful. Peter is right: What a beautiful instrument!
Late to party but "Thank you" - both for the introduction to Tenor Guitar and, of course, 'The Skye Boat Song', which I sort of grew up with (my Mother was Scottish). I'll need to investigate options for picking up a TG now. The fifths from C up very comfortable for me as I spent quite some time with Robert Fripp's 'New Standard Tuning' for guitar C G D A E with a G on top. Look forward to exploring more of your channel - thanks again!
Thank you for the introduction to tenor guitar... very fascinating indeed ! I'm amazed ... such a full sound from a diminutive instrument....reminiscent of a 12 string guitar as well.
Watching from Newark, NJ!
Beautiful - I wish I'd found this 50 years ago.....
If Time and Space, as sages say, are things which cannot be...doesn't matter , my friend, if you found this now....music has no boundaries specially when we are in front of such wonderful tone.

Practice makes perfect. Perfect practice makes perfection...and this is perfection. Thank you Richard. Most beautiful music.
How wonderful to read this. Thanks tony!!
Richard makes it sound so easy - which it is on the ear Superb.
Every word you are saying could be transcribed poetry. I've just watch Everything Everything playing To The Blade, which has brought me here. What a beautiful instrument!
Cheers Peter!!!!
I love this guy! He has a great approach, he’s very personable, and he plays beautifully.
Nice one Tony. This feedback means a hell of a lot.
What a gift to play like that.....
That first English folk song tore at my heart. There's a tale or two behind it, the human condition explained in a fine mastery..thank you deeply
So glad you liked it. Those four strings make a beautiful sound!
It was a beautifully played rendition, but it isn't an English folk song.
@@paulmcqueen3153 Irish? Now I gotta know?. Nordic? Thx
@@frankcompagnone8550 Scottish. Called The Skye Boat Song, or Over the Sea to Skye. These days many people would know it as The Outlanders Theme.
This is the most uplifting and beautifully played ‘Introduction’ that I’ve ever heard for any stringed instrument. Thank you so much for posting.
Thanks Jack. That means a lot. Richard
Really enjoyed Speed Bonnie boat. My father used to sing it as a lullaby when I was a child. A beautiful versatile instrument
I recently purchased an Ibanez tenor guitar. That was absolutely beautiful playing. Damn! I wish I could play like that! I'd best get practicing!
Do you like it? Do they offer a tenor electric guitar? Hope you are getting good at it.
@@lifeonamarble961 I purchased it on Amazon. As far as I know, they don't offer an electric version. And yes, I do like it. It plays beautifully.

That’s just beautiful.
Sounds so nice, my mom gave me a tenor Key Kord for my birthday, can not wait to get some stings on it and give it a run.
so....I guess I need a tenor acoustic now. There is such a brilliant sparkle and top end to those strings. Fantastic playing
