In this episode, we will spend the day with KASHIWA Daisuke, a musician and composer based near Tokyo.
First, we will head to Hino, located in the Tokyo suburbs to the big temple complex Takahata Fudoson.
KASHIWA, having lived just behind the complex for a few years, used to often come here to have a walk alone or with his kids, to pray or find inspiration for his music looking at the buildings and nature.
A few minutes away from there, we will head to Fureai bridge, which also was a regular stroll for KASHIWA.
While he was struggling with composition on his album « 88 », KASHIWA mentions he would also come to look at the river and think about his approach to music.
A few years ago, the animation movie director Makoto Shinkai liked this same album and asked KASHIWA to rearrange it as the soundtrack of the movie « The Garden of Words ».
In the second part of the episode, we will head to Yoshida Fish Farms, a shop specialized into Japanese goldfishes and koi carps, as well as tropical fishes and plants.
Since he was little, KASHIWA loved to build aquariums, which he qualifies as “small universes”. He compares this to his way to make music by assembling various elements and to create such universes in his work.

Man, Kashiwa Daisuke's work on Garden of Words was phenomenal. The movie would not have worked with any other kind of music.

I watched this video out of idle curiosity one day and looked into his music - realised I'd heard it before, on a RUclips recommendation that I couldn't find again. Since rediscovering his work, I have considered him my favourite composer. Tremendously underrated talent. Thank you.

My first song was Stella, I was almost sleeping and just found it, started listening and immediately I was captured by it's melody, after I stated to see myself being in space, I felt incredibly good, I honestly amazed by how Daisuke Sama says he want to create his own universe , he did for me, I was in my own universe and felt best as I could In my life.
Sorry for my bad English, not a native speaker.

The garden of words has one of my favorite scores of all time!! I've only seen the movie itself maybe three times but I've listened to the score countless times. Can't wait to watch this and find out more about the person behind it

I love Kashiwa - san's music, always deliver a powerful but comtemplative sense of melancholia, to be such a small thing is a big world. His music really speak to me in many ways...
A really talentful musician. Thank you for the documentary about him, Archipel !

Somehow I've become a fan of a bunch of fringe Japanese composers. Mostly because of anime and games.
This channel is great. Maybe you could get an interview with Masayoshi Soken some day.

Hey James, in case you didn't find the answer, it's "rabbit's quartet" from his album "april #02"
