I've been through Madison...wish I had the time back then (2004) to see the town some. Did see Peru's Circus location a year earlier via the James Dean home town - Fairmount. Got a t-shirt from the Peru Circus place. This episode was informative for those "Hoosiers" at heart like me who though moved decades ago from the great state of Indiana, still love the good memories of the Hoosier land.
When they did their First Survey of the Indiana Territory: Camby was considered for the first place as the State Capitol. But they moved just a little North on up the White River to the center of the state. Beanblossm, in Brown County was one of the First Trading Post but it was named "Georgetown," after King George of England. But it later was called "Bean Blossom" by the Algonquin Native Americans, that did their migrations through this area, by following the larger creeks, for a Natural Bean that grew along the creek, that the Native Americans could consume, for a source of food. Just a short distance from Bean Blossom/ George town East, along the Bean Blossom Creek, there once was a small Algonquin, Native American village, that still has the Native Americans name of Peoga. Bean blossom Creek is is belived to be where the last edge of the the great ice age ended. Because of the mineral deposits in and around the Bean Blossom area. And Bean Blossom creek's wines on west making and starting the rolling hills, of Southern Indiana. And Bean Blosson creek, now feeds into what is Lake Lemon. Just North East of Lake Monroe. That were built in the 1950's for Southern Indiana area, for water Coservation. But in the Indiana Territory first Survey, there was No Brown County, until 1836. Bartholomew County and Morgan County came together 2 mile West of St. Rd. 135. Thus placing Bean Blossom/ George Town in Bartholomew County.
my great aunt and uncle harvey and joanna best lived there. they was gospal singer back in the day. they had several albums. i was down there when she passed away back in th e 90s.
