  • Paul Skenes has quickly become one of the most exciting pitchers in baseball, and with the ability to consistently throw 100+ mph, it’s easy to see why. However, his journey to stardom was not as easy as it may seem, and fans are worried that arm injuries are inevitable.
    This is the story of Paul Skenes.

    Skenes didn't start throwing 100+ until he went to LSU. The pitching coach put him on an MLB training program and worked his mechanics and then suddenly he was throwing 102-103. He can throw faster but chooses not to.

  • @paysonfox88
    @paysonfox88 8 часов назад

    The poster boy for "damn, he sure got here fast!" was Dave Steib of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1978. That guy pitched like 3 games in college as an emergency replacement for starters getting lit up. He was an 400 hitting outfielder with power, who just so happened to possess a cannon arm. A Jays scout offered him a minor league contract after watching him pitch only once, as an emergency pitcher just trying to get the ball over the plate.
    In less than 130 innings in the minor leagues, he was called up to the major leagues. He threw over 2000 innings in his first 10 seasons. This dude was amazing. Sometimes you find a guy like Paul Skenes, that's just that good.

    I thought at LSU he was more over the top like Verlander and Nolan Ryan. He needs to get back to that or he's not going to last. Save the splinker for when you really need it. You got 5 pitches you can control, work on that, and make going over top your primary. He's big and powerful, too many pitches in this video are going to blow his arm out, much like Strider.

  • @ericbaker8807

    I wouldnt really say it was "out of nowhere." The guy was drafted #1 for a reason. He was a beast while at LSU. In the first minute of the video they talk about how he's the best prospect they've ever seen. It's pretty expected that he's gonna excel. To your point, maybe not to this degree quite yet... But still, he didn't really come out of nowhere.

    Skenes throws with mostly his legs and core. It’s why he can throw so hard, but also why his arm might hold up. Will he 100% need Tommy John surgery at some point? Yes. But the surgery is world class now, it usually doesn’t have an impact on pitching velocity after a year.

    he hasn't given up 3 runs in all of his starts right?

    • @shadowlazers
      @shadowlazers 14 дней назад

      You gave up one run in his first game and left two runners on and they were walked home so technically he gave up three in his first start of four innings

    Out of nowhere? They showed his last season of lsu on sports center. He won the cws. He was 1 overall. wtf you mean out of nowhere? He should have started opening day for the pirates. He was the best pitcher in the big leagues while he was in the minors. Fuck you mean out of nowhere.

      Out of nowhere because he was pitching at LSU last summer and now he's dominating dominating Major League baseball no minors

      @@shadowlazersit's still fundamentally wrong. When you go first overall in the draft it is with the understanding you have the highest chance of becoming an elite player out of ALL those other players.
      Being drafted in the 8th and coming in and performing like this would be "out of nowhere."
      Either way, he always had the tag of being elite.

      It’s baseball dude. You don’t usually just see someone get drafted and make an immediate impact. It can take years for too prospects to make it theough the minors and even longer to prove they belong in the majors. There was actually a debate whether or not he or crews should have gone 1st overall. With the benefit of hindsight, him going 1 was obvious, but it wasn’t even at the time. He’s already dominating the mlb, it’s unprecedented
