    Beautiful hutches! Thanks for the tip on wire mesh flooring - I was always afraid it would hurt my bunnies’ feet, but they get so hot in the summertime, and seeing that your buns prefer the mesh to the ample wood flooring you offered them, I’m now going to add a section of mesh for mine to chill on during hot days. Cheers!

    Nice hutches. I had my female in a big hutch like that for 2 years. Then one day i read somewhere that rabbits never go further than about a 1/4 mile from their home, so I let her loose in my fenced in yard to see what she would do. It's about a 1/4 acre yard. Well she not only stayed in the yard for the next 6 years but i got her a male and he never left and i wound up with about 10 bunnies! It was great, my lawn was always the perfect height and real green and they love to eat weeds. Great pets

      Abida Babida That's great that you were able to do that. I wish I could do that. Here we get Coyote, wolf-dogs, wolves, foxes, bobcats, etc. and they would be someone's lunch. We actually lost our West Highland White Terrier (20 lbs) to a Wolf-Dog back in December. It came into our yard that was 6' wooden fenced :(

      RoxyGirl Wright Hey sorry to hear that Roxy. I lost a great dog to a speeding car right after 9/11. She was a brindle Pit...4 yrs old and nursing puppies that were only 2 weeks old. She died only a month after my mother died, which was on 9/11...which also took one of my childhood friends. He was a fireman. That was the worst couple of months of my life. The bunnies actually helped me get thru it all. I didnt wanna do anything but take Xanax and sleep. Those funny fur balls made me smile every day.
      Sucks that u can't let your bunnies run free...but it's totally understandable with predators in your area. We dont have anything here...just racoons, opossums n squirrels. My Pit didn't bother the bunnies. She listened and understood me like as if she actually knew the English language. What an amazing dog. Found her at the pound when she was about 9 months old.

    These are the best outdoor breeding hutches I've come across online. They look the most spacious and comfortable for them and deal with all seasons and are high above the ground. Not the cheapest and lots of labour and thought went into building them.

    I love your hutches! We have been thinking of getting into rabbits for meat for ourselves as well as a little extra money. We hate the idea of caging them and have been looking at free ranging. Most of what I have found is free ranging creates lots of new problems that cages or hutches prevent. Your hutches are HUGE compared to most rabbit cages. That makes us feel a little better about the whole idea. They could be built rather cheaply with rough sawn lumber from the sawmill too! Thanks for the tour....I will be checking out your other videos.

  • @richarddowse2621

    love the hutches they are really well built!! as herbivores they do get alot of nutrients from eating their own droppings though so I leave sawdust for them and clean it out daily.

    • @TamBayo
      @TamBayo 7 лет назад

      If your rabbits are too fat too roll up and eat those when they come out (normal) then yes. Otherwise there is no need to catch their droppings in the cage so they can reach them. The ones shown in this vid are the end droppings, not the ones for "reuse" that you refer to

    After keeping hamsters and other rodents for years, i’ll give you a tip for keeping the build-up of rabbit urine off the pans; apple cider vinegar. You’ll have to soak them for a while, as the solids take some time to dissolve, but it is so worthwhile to do every month or so, as it keeps the smell under control and therefore any flies away (not that I saw any in your video; but my pets were always indoors, as we lived in the tropics and smells could be a problem since we lived in rented accommodation.) Anyway, lovely hutches! Those are some of the nicest i’ve ever seen!

    Hi, it's healthy for rabbits if they can eat some of their own droppings as they get so little of the goodness out of their food the first time round, they'll often eat their droppings 3 or 4 times as they get more and more out of the digestion process each time, might sound yucky but that's nature for you lol

    • @Happybigdog
      @Happybigdog 10 лет назад +3

      no, its not enough room. They are trapped and want to come out and move. No animal wants to be caged, but they have no choice and really the quality of their life ius up to the compassion and mercy of their owners. They would prefer to be outside. Please google Hopper Haven Rabbit sanctuary and also other rabbit welfare sites.Rabbits need space, lots of hay and vegetables. Also be very careful of breeding because the majority of homes the will go to after you have over-bred is usually terribly cruel ( overcrowding, bitten off limbs, gouged out eyes, no food or water or hay to chew on. ) Chewing on hay reduces their boredom and helps them grind down their teeth- and this they would naturally do if they were free to find their own food.I live on a rescue place and have seen so much neglect and cruelty you would be amazed. We get up to twenty calls a day and we live in a small town. They breed fast and are easily neglects. The question is- what does is benefit people to have a creature which is totally trapped an imprisoned in a cage in your back yard ? They want to be free. Animals in cages are no fun for us- having dogs and carts which interact with us and are free makes more sense. But putting them in tiny prisons ??? Whats the point ? How is that good for them or for us ? The rabbits absolutely hate being caged- they hate it for the entire length of their lives- so why do it ??? Many more people these days are waking up and are having house rabbits who can run free and interaact and be real companions and enjoy some freedom. The whole idea of keeping them in cages is old fashioned and many people are waking up. Please re-think and look at new ways of being kind and interacting with your pet where they do not have to live in tiny spaces, imprisoned and miserable. Please don't judge me for saying thei- Im not trying to hurt the guy doing this- Im sure he is a nice fellow and means well- but try to see it from the animals point of view. Think how they must feel- and then think of new and better was of treating them. You wouldnt trap a dog in a hutch and call it a pet. We get enormous pleasure out of interacting withb our dogs- but what do we really get out of doing this to these poor,poor rabbits stuck in these tiny cages. The way we keep rabbits needs rethinking. They need outdoor runs - or be even more modern and really look into keeping them as a house rabbit..... thankyou x

      Ok, but this is entirely different? If someone who doesn't posses the skills to come up with something like this a blue print can help them out so they can hire a handy man or just have a better sense of doing it. To say something like that is ignorant thinking.

    Awesome hutch mate! It's beautiful. Have you kept different breeds of rabbits together? if enough space is provided can 2 different breeds of rabbits neutered stay together? male and a female maybe

      My rabbits are spayed and neutered, different breeds, and they get along great. Keep them side by side and then introduce them in a neutral space where neither has ever been before (a bathtub works well). Do this every day for about a week before you put them in a cage together to prevent fighting.

    My daughter will be raising rabbits next spring for show in FFA at her high school and I really like the set up you have. She will have a male and female in which she can keep and her teacher will pick three of the babies to show. so I would like to build something with some room. These are $100 + rabbits and they will need a nice place. do you have any instruction are plans you went buy?
