I'm recently moving from the a7s to the X-H1. So far I've been posting a few comparison videos, and to my surprise both Sony's & FUJIFILM's Log profile work so well with the Eterna Lut. Still having a hard time letting go of full frame and stick with APSC full time. Thanks for your video it is reassuring to my purchase.
thx for the super detailed review! I might have to refer to this if I dive into the X-T3 which is my dream camera right now. I have to say, moving from Canon to Fuji (X-T20) was fairly easy because of the impressive color science of the two brands. I do use Sony for professional work sometimes but despite the advanced features they could never make me feel the way I feel when shooting with my little X-T20 even though it's not really the best camera out there right now feature-wise, that's why the X-T3 is definitely my dream cam, simply because of the 10-bit (I used to shoot ML Raw with my Canon & convert to 10-bit prores) also you're absolutely right about not editing too much with the Fuji. even with the Canon, I used to shoot raw all the time, with the Fuji it's now jpeg only. I also currently own the Sony RX0 II, and after playing around with its video I feel like I have to shoot log all the time because the regular color profiles are just not good enough. with Fuji I don't mind not shooting flat, the film simulations are saucy
I'm leaning towards Xh1, 1,IBIS 2, much lower price especially 2nd hand, 3, build quality, very solidly built and made in Japan, the x-t3 and xt4 are made in China with paint chipping problem. Only issue with XH1 is battery life, heard it's bad even with battery grip, this is the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger.
Great video, Khairil. I am a stills guy, but it is useful to hear what you say. (For example, the differences in the ports) I found both of these cameras at a local shop today. Hmmm. Food for thought. I will check out more of your content. Subscribed.
The x-h1 with updated firmware and IBIS might be a deal maker for those involved with video, despite the x-t3 having 'more' video options. Though I appreciate this video coming from a filmmaker's perspective.
I understood it would be mostly about your experience etc. I hear spec, nr’s, more specs and comparisons, more numbers. And very little about experience... and I don’t even shoot video... 🥴
I'd love to buy the XT-3 but I miss the IBIS when shooting by hand, witch I do most of the time. The XT4 is gonna have IBIS so maybe that's the point I'll sell my old Nikon DSLR do do a system change because if I change, I want everything out of one. And until the XT4 there is always one thing I missed, just MFT Cameras like the Pana G9 had: 4k 50p + IBIS + mic in + heads in + the pros of an APS-C sensor - smaller than FF but shallow depth of field and higher ISO than MFT.
I have the X-T3 and came to buy an X-H1 + 35mm f1.4 for 900 euros, I think it is a good offer. I'm in doubt if I sell the X-T3 and I took a X-T4 or I keep it and I own this X-H1.
You could sell the X-H1 later when the X-H2 comes out, but my personal recommendation, XT2+X-H1(my set-up) or X-T3+X-T4 are the better and likely more practical options currently. Simply due to sensor and feature specs. I highly believe the X-H2 will come with a brand new sensor. And then you might face a dilemma again. The only things I currently miss in my own kit are the possibility of the X-T4 having a significantly longer performance time due to the bigger battery, especially when using the new grip and the back-up video recording. I suspect the X-H2 will come without a 30-minute recording limit. Considering Sony is able to do that with the tiny A6600, I'm a tad surprised why they couldn't put that in the X-T4 since that processor already seems underclocked and can still write 4k F-Log video to two cards simultaneously. But I'm not an engineer and maybe there was only so much they could do within the size constraints. Hats off though for keeping nearly the same form factor as the last 3 iterations. That's nothing short of remarkable. Either way, my recommendation stands up for now. All the best!
klarionc I presse the Q button on all shootings by accident 10 times in an hour. This button is on a wrong place. You can turn it off, yes, but you can‘t switch the Q-function to another function-button. Come on Fuji. This just a software issue.
You may as well have been talking Martian as I know nothing about video but I enjoyed it and have actually subscribed ! Maybe one day I will shoot a video 😉👍
Hey Khairil! Im thinking about upgrading from xt1. Im really pleased with photos it takes but it sucks at video. Im considering xt2, xh1, xt3... BUT, in my country I can get mint xh1 for about 200$ cheaper than used xt2 (or with 18-55 lens for about same price) and about 400-500$ cheaper than used xt3 (half the price). Im still new in video recording and I want to learn it and improve my skills but still want to have good camera for taking stills. Is xh1 a good choice considering its much cheaper than xt2 right now?
If the XH1 is that much more affordable than the others then I say go for it! It works great for photos (the top screen next to the shutter will be very handy) and I shot my movie Kickflip with it in 4k so video's totally usable. Sure, the XT3 & especially 4 would be better for video (from a specs standpoint) but there's no reason why you can't get your feet wet with the XH1. Hope that helps!
Hi Nigel, not too sure as I concentrated mostly on video when I had the X-H1 but I'd assume for lower shutter speeds it should make a difference as long as the stabilization is set for the size of lens your using. hope that helps!
Hello, In india, both XH1 with grip and XT3 are selling at same cost. I want a professional camera for photography, which one could I choose? Has the autofocus gotten any better in XH1 after firmware update? Also i don't plan to use the grip, will xH1 battery hamper my shooting experience? Thanks you for such helpful videos! (I like the handling of xH1 better but want to carefully choose as this is a long term investment for me)
Hey there I'm a new sub and I really like how informative this video is. I have a question for you I have about 2300 right now and I'm looking for a new camera. I have had Canon and Sony A7iii and I just sold the Sony A7iii with kit lens even though it was a superb camera, I just didn't like the body size. I found a great deal on Fuji XH1 with the xf 16-55 f2.8 for 1900. Now my question is should I jump on that deal or wait for XH2 with a kit lens? Now I know the Canon R6 and R5 are coming out but I want a camera that is calling my name and Fuji is screaming it now lol
Hi man! I'd like to have your opinion since I'm not really sure which one to get. I'm torn between xh1 and xt3, these days, secondhand xh2 with battery grip goes arounr $850 and secondhand xt3 body only goes around $800-$850 and a brand new xt3 sells for $950-$999. I mostly do stills and portraits and I travel a lot using fuji 56mm 1.2 and 18-135mm lenses. can you give me your thoughts? I currently have xt2 and I'm selling it for the upgrade. Thank you!
I am wondering... i've a7r3 and my wife has 6d2... now, i bought original x100 and i am in love with it. Is a switch for wedding photography is worth it...
Depends on your workflow but its a nice setup and much lighter on your kit during a wedding day. A7R3 tho... thats alot of DR and quality that you might miss honestly.
Khairil, thank you for your video, I have encountered to an issue on XH1 about the IBIS noise when turning on the camera and/or when you press the play mode attached a video demonstrating the noise ruclips.net/video/utCT7AoFJgk/видео.html
Certainly one of the best comparison of these two cameras in RUclips.
Thanks!
Thank you for this, getting my XH-1 by the end of the week. Excited to use it on my future projects.
Khairil, this was one of the best videos on these two cameras; looking forward to your review on X-T4. Thanks.
Very deep video. It has to take longer writing the script than editing. Congrats on the sponsorship

mamiyapress I sold my XT3 for the XH1 with grip for photography. I didn’t like the look of the XT3 sensor honestly either over the XH1.
Thank you.
Nice video but the title is somewhat misleading, since you discuss both cameras regarding video only rather than both video and stills.
Never once have I pressed the Q button by accident... I have to intentionally hit it just right to activate it since it doesn't protrude much.
