11:05 yuhu’s answer here was really clever, not to answer the emperor’s question directly (since the answer is very obvious), but to give the emperor a solution to the core of the matter
I always felt bad for Yongcheng. He knew that his mother was overstepping propriety, but he had to listen to her out of filial piety and the hopes of being more than just a paltry Duke. I don't envy Qinglong's children, having to view their father as ruler and caregiver all in one. What a horrific tightrope to walk.
@@TimTheEnchanter0 Maybe! This version of Qinglong is so selfish and blind that he might have blamed Yongcheng for being unfilial towards his mother if he reported what she was trying to do! What's more, Noble Consort Jia manipulated her kids from birth to be completely loyal to her, reminding them that without her, they would not exist and would be nothing anyway; Yongcheng, as the oldest, took the brunt of this treatment. Also, he loved his mother and knew her devotion to her maiden clan. I don't think Yongcheng ever had a choice here, unfortunately. :(
@@TimTheEnchanter0 No. I really don't think so, for two reasons. 1. He had been raised by, what you might say, by only one parent. The Emperor came around every once in awhile, and Yongcheng knew who he was, but let's face it, there was hardly any interaction between them. And 2. Jia had instilled the fear of what could happen, not to him, but to her, in him. And like all sons, he wanted to protect his mother. So he was stuck between a rock and a hard place with no soft place in sight

this is just a show made up. the real events like the expelling roayk subjects and deaths of concubines are real the rest aren't. I think it's common sense not to think too much about so called "culture" from a show 😂😂
Yongcheng might become the crown prince because hes an outstanding prince.. but just because jia gui fei intervene, yongcheng lost it all ... How pathetic...
So that's the other piece of this particular puzzle ⁉️ I had looked all over it. I knew there had to be some reason Ruyi gave that necklace to Consort Chun to wear when she had dinner with the Emperor. I know she was her friend, but she wouldn't have gotten into trouble for it anyway because she was just the carrier pigeon to let the Emperor see exactly what Jia Fei was up to and why. It seems that Ruyi was saying it's over when I say it's over not a second before. But you really can't blame her, because it was Jia's dog that scared her daughter to death.
Most likely. I think Ruyi would easily realize that Jia should never have that choker from the beginning, and so she cleverly passed it to Chun as a gift, knowing the Emperor will see it and notice.
It's not just facial expression that changes, there's vocal tone and nuance. Each look to or away. I think the actors are all really good. Plus, he's an emperor probably don't want to show too much emotion, he's watched every second by his subjects so letting them know what he's thinking wouldn't be good.

She's been in the palace a long time and survived so close to the throne. People like that were experts at what to say and how to say it.

The author is actually quite a good actress, not stiff like the usual one time appearance of a character (especially the eyes).
Yea quite the natural she is… sad her cameo wasn’t recurring. She really wanted to play the duchess; aunt of hongli hehe

So did Ruyi intentionally gift the necklace to Concubine Chun so that the emperor will see it?
I think so. She was waiting for such a chance and must have discussed it with Ron-peirce, otherwise she would have mentioned which item it is.
