There are still way too many bullies being given badges and thinking their badge is the supreme law of the land and trumps cou ty laws, state laws, federal laws, and the Constitution. Don't surrender your Constitutional rights and give these bullies reason to think they are to be obeyed by everyone at all times. Don't surrender your ID outside of a valid traffic stop. 4th Amendment. Don't answer questions. 5th Amendment. Film the police. 1st Amendment.

If they spent the money on retraining, instead of pay outs for dumb mistakes.
Think how much money tax payers could save.

All these lawsuits need to be paid by the police officers themselves. Out of their own personal pockets, not us taxpayers.

Their pockets aren't as deep. So, the solution is to empty their pockets first, then pay the remainder from city/county/state/federal/insurance funds.

@@guesswhomartin9249No police officer in the US is required to "carry their own insurance". It's something that has been suggested for years, but it'll probably never happen. Meanwhile, in reality, taxpayers are paying for the insurance policies that cities have. When a city gets successfully sued, their insurance premiums go up, and taxpayers pay the higher bill.

@@BlaubartMT well all that has to stop ! We taxpayers CANNOT be the ones paying for police officer's stupidity.
Ok then, fire the Chief of Police ! Fire The City Mayor ! fire The Police Captain !
And definitely yes, shut down The Whole Police Unions across America !
All these Police Unions are out to defend these police officers when these police act stupid. So yes, fire everybody !

Police departments all across the country once realized the taxpayers pay for their lawsuits they’ve decided to quit hiring the right and more qualified individuals for the job. To show how much careless and evil they’re, they’ll take anyone and anything from the streets as long as they appear physically fit in their eyes. I blame the system for failing the American people!

Until these cops have to pay for these damages out of their own pocket this nonsense will go on. They should be required to take out their own insurance policies and have damages paid from that not the city's funds.
