Hey, nice looking car. It happens that I own a '58 Edsel Corsair, so I can help you out with that push-button shifting. Each button operates a set of contacts that look something like ignition points. Those contacts sometimes get out of adjustment, which will cause the kinds of shifting problems that you're experiencing with this one. To adjust them, you'll need to pull off the steering wheel and pull the whole assembly out of the steering column. Then, for each button that's not working properly, just bend the contact arm a bit until the contacts close when the button is pushed, and open when another button is pushed. (I've lost count of the times I've had to do this with mine.)
