As a Austinite this is a solid list minus The Oasis and Torchys. People only go to The Oasis for the view of Lake Travis and maybe a Margarita; not the food. There are way better Tex Mex restaurants to go to like my favorites Curras and Enchiladas Y Mas. Torchys food quality has really gone down and the price is not worth it since they decide to expand to multiple locations in many states.
I hate torchy haters! I've lived here for over 20 years oasis food isn't great but everyone knows it's for the views , but torchys is freaking good!!! Haterrrrrr
As an Austin native you did a great job for a snapshot which tourist's would appreciate. There are so many places, things and experiences to have here. But nice overview.
Lesser known but amazing food trucks: Cuantos Tacos Rolling Smoke BBQ Thai Thani Top notch Tex Mex Mi Madres Baby A’s Top notch Mexican Suerte Estes My favorite Pizza Via 313 Little Deli Seafood Perla’s Burger joint Crown and Anchor Brunch Sawyers I’m surprised you didn’t stop by an Amy’s Ice cream We have so many great food options from pricy to cheap, it’s awesome.
Two Austin eateries you didn't mention that are long-time greats; Fonda San Miguel and Conans Pizza. Both opened in the 1970's and have been going strong since. Fonda San Miguel opened in 1975 and serves traditional recipes of interior and coastal regions of Mexico. Conans opened in 1976 and is best know for its Deep Dish Wheat Dough and best-selling everything pizza, The Savage. Both are must stops to experience the best of Austin eateries, IMHO.
Thought of two other places I didn't mention above; The Omelettry and Kirby Street Cafe. Both are best known as excellent breakfast places and have been open since 1978 and 1980, respectively. The Omelettry serves great omelettes as well as outstanding and unique, Gingerbread Pancakes. Kirby Street has wonderful migas.
So, you can place an online order for Franklins as long as you order 5 lbs of BBQ (a couple of days before), which most people visiting do since they want to try everything after waiting in line for hours. Interstellar does not have as "long" as a line but they are ridiculously slow. I've been there on two separate occasions. Once, I was third in line and it still took just over 20 minutes to get my food and the time before that, I was 15th in line but left after an hour of waiting and barely seeing the line budge. They just have one person slicing the meat. La Barbecue operates at the same snail pace. Both places have very good BBQ but because the BBQ scene has exploded and elevated in quality all across Texas, you can get the same quality BBQ now at many locations without waiting for hours.
Here are some 'Old' Austin eateries I would recommend as well: Chuy's (original location on Barton Springs Rd.), the original Kerby Lane (on...wait for it, Kerby Lane), The Catfish Parlor (South location on Ben White), El Mercado (S. 1st Street location), and Dan's Hamburgers (N. Lamar Street), Also honorable mention to Matt's El Rancho- I'm not all that crazy about it but it is one of the oldest Tex-Mex places in Austin (going back to 1952) it's always been a local favorite anyway. Lastly, a shout out to Hut's Hamburgers and Threadgill's two "Old Austin' places that bit the dust during covid :(
Because people are haters!!! Everyone knows it's the greatest views of the lake at sunset and possibly some of the greatest views in the entire state!!!! No one goes there for the food although what he ordered fajitas and margaritas are solid!!!!
Hey y’all . Thank you for the info on all those places. I’m a Fort Worth resident and I’m going to try Franklins for the first time next weekend. Next time you are in Austin, may I suggest Guero’s Taco Bar. Great food, a really cool outdoor music area and a Tarantino movie was filmed there. it’s on South Congress across from Home Slice and next to Jo’s. Keep up the awesome content. You inspire me to get out there and see the world.
Jewboy Burgers needs to be on this list. One of the best burger includes slices of super tender pastrami with sauerkraut and cheese. Absolutely delicious.
I have eaten at half your list and can wholeheartedly agree with your selections. I have returned to them time and again whenever I visit. Valentina’s has temporarily closed their Manchaca location as they opened up a brand new and much larger place in nearby Buda. Via 313 has great Detroit style pizza on 6th street. Great list Josh!
Green Mesquite BBQ and more. I suggest the and more. Haven't had anything bad here yet. Also try Aviator's pizza for a thicker style pizza. And for burger joints Casino el Camino in downtown or Jewboy Burgers on Airport Ave.
I love Jewboy burgers , I actually know the Jewboy himself! I used to go to his food trucks and say hi almost every other day! He's such An amazing guy
Ive lived in austin for over 20+ years and this list is amazing! Round rock donuts are the best ive ever had! Torchys is classic and never dissapoints and there queso is on point. Some of my best sunset photographs are at the oasis even shot a wedding there.
0:47 "I went there on a Sunday and I got there by 8am - 3.5 hours before they opened and I was number 18 in line" - hmm - I don't think I'll be making that expedition ...
Good list, I'm sorry not to see some Asian options. There is a vibrant Asian community in Austin and good food off the beaten path. At Chinatown Center on Lamar you can find many options and a visit to MT Market, the huge Asian Market, is way fun. I'm lucky to be a mile away so I visit often. Another word of mouth suggestion I love is Peace Bakery at Lamar and Braker. GREAT Middle Eastern food and delicious Baklava.
The Oasis is Just a view the food is bad I took some friend of mine who are culinary writers from Florida and they work very disappointed in the food as I have been every single time and for doughnuts you need to try ducks
Austin Native here, and vegetarian and just wanted to add some of my favorite places: Mission Burger (all vegan burger joint that popped up this year) Nissi Vegan Mexican Cuisine (all vegan tex mex place that popped up this year) The next few aren't full vegan/vegetarian, but do have delicious options whether or not you eat meat. Ditty Dog (Hotdog Truck open Thursday-Sunday at night, Hotdogs are great, Bugolgi Fries are great. Their veggie dog is the best hotdog I've ever had as someone who's eaten meat for the first half of my life, I'm sure their regular dogs are even better) Matt's El Rancho (Usually very busy but is the best tex mex I've had in austin) Aster's Ethiopian Restaurant (If you've never experienced ethiopian food, you're in for a treat. I always take friends who are visiting for the first time here) Saffron (Really good Indian food)
6:11 Round rock donuts is not good I'm sorry. Donuts from your average donut shop in california are better but I guess thats not a fair comparison considering ca is the donut capital of the world. The problem with round rock donuts is the oil is really bad for some reason. The dough comes out in this weird orange color and theres way too much oil in them.
Completely disagree, I brought a few dozen of their glazed to an international group of people, from all over the US, Asia and Europe and they ALL were amazed how good it was.
And Valentina’s is now out-of-business. They moved from the location on South Manchaca Road in South Austin to a giant food hall in Buda. I believe they were lured by the Buda city council with tax incentives to be an anchor tenant at a local shopping area. They went out of business within a year of moving in. VERY SAD!!
Lived in Austin for 5 years and ppl are generally clueless about food. Barbecue is the only legit great thing here. Tex Mex is lame; Mexican in California is miles above anything here. Most overrated “food city” in the country.
I can’t trust your pallet because Franklins has the worst BBQ I have ever had in my human life. I drove his mother as a Lyft driver when she came here one time and she said she doesn’t even eat his food and then laughed. for you to not mention blacks on your list shows me clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about

Ha Austinite here and agree
i wish i listened to everybody ab the oasis. the food legit made me sick. but the view was IMMACULATE
Oasis is beautiful..the food is garbage. Torchy's tacos are not something anyone that likes good food, actually eats.
Torchys sucks, who wants to pay $3.50 for 1 taco that leaves a bad after taste!?
I hate torchy haters! I've lived here for over 20 years oasis food isn't great but everyone knows it's for the views , but torchys is freaking good!!! Haterrrrrr
Terry Black’s is the GOAT
Siiiight
I should have eaten before watching this...I'm literally drooling.
As an Austin native you did a great job for a snapshot which tourist's would appreciate. There are so many places, things and experiences to have here. But nice overview.
As an Austinite, born and raised, you can’t go wrong with Home Slice.
Lesser known but amazing food trucks:
Cuantos Tacos
Rolling Smoke BBQ
Thai Thani
Top notch Tex Mex
Mi Madres
Baby A’s
Top notch Mexican
Suerte
Estes
My favorite Pizza
Via 313
Little Deli
Seafood
Perla’s
Burger joint
Crown and Anchor
Brunch
Sawyers
I’m surprised you didn’t stop by an Amy’s Ice cream
We have so many great food options from pricy to cheap, it’s awesome.
The brisket at Salt Lick BBQ at the Austin Airport was surprisingly fantastic!
Gourdough’s is always a must stop for me. It’s a meal on it’s own😊
I just moved to Austin this month so I am definitely keeping this video handy.

That Fonda San Miguel is Overrated in my opinion and not really authentic Mexican plus overpriced.
I love conans crust
Agreed on everything other than the oasis. View is great but that is it.

Ramen Tatsuya has to be one of my favorite Austin restaurants.
I’ve never seen anyone recommend the Oasis as a place to eat. I’ve seen it as a place to avoid.
Because people are haters!!! Everyone knows it's the greatest views of the lake at sunset and possibly some of the greatest views in the entire state!!!! No one goes there for the food although what he ordered fajitas and margaritas are solid!!!!
It’s nuts to me that Texas Chilli Parlor didn’t make this list.
Thank you so much for this coverage. You always do a great job, on the subjects you cover... YUMMY 🌞🤠🤗
Everything looks sooooo good!! 🤤🙌🏽
Your wife is adorable! As a happily married lady, it is so sweet to see you all loving living life together!❤
Note on donuts: also find a place that makes kolaches. Basically sweet bread with fruit jam or sausage inside.
Missed the Salt lick

I live in Austin and the only food I have tried from all those places is Torchy's. may be I am way too poor. It is nice to see Amy again.
Fonda San Miguel! Eclectic and fabulous menu options!!
Via 313 has some of the best pizza, and the Boston Cooler dessert drink is so good. We always stop at the one in Oak Hill when we visit family.
I love every minute I spend on your channel. What an experience!
Fantastic Oasis. Missing this restaurant... Fantastic food....
Who else decided this wasn’t the video you needed after this man put Torchy’s on here.
great job!
Cool, greetings from Sweden
Ok lots of the places you put are cool and definitely worth a try the oasis is a beyond mid Tourist trap, it’s pretty much chilis with a view
Jewboy Burgers needs to be on this list. One of the best burger includes slices of super tender pastrami with sauerkraut and cheese. Absolutely delicious.

Hi do you like this food? I like this food.thanks this video creator make me happy
Terry Blacks doesn’t seem to be on the list???

Late Night home cookin' at Magnolias.
Food trucks… so cool…
Looks good
The oasis food is incredibly expensive but basically tastes like bar food. Go for the view. Don't waste your money on the food.
Ive lived in austin for over 20+ years and this list is amazing! Round rock donuts are the best ive ever had! Torchys is classic and never dissapoints and there queso is on point. Some of my best sunset photographs are at the oasis even shot a wedding there.
Phenomenal

Best southern food in austin: Cherry Creek Catfish
Best enchiladas in austin: Serranos
Best BBQ in austin: Wouldn't know I go to lockhart for that
Legit that you had Valetinas and Tacos Veracruz and Home Slice
The Oasis is Just a view the food is bad I took some friend of mine who are culinary writers from Florida and they work very disappointed in the food as I have been every single time and for doughnuts you need to try ducks
Franklins you can pre order which I recommend. My brother bbqs so I was not impressed lol

Torchy's and The Oasis? Come on dude.
Swap Torchys for Taco Deli and The Oasis for Matts El Rancho and the list will be much better.
Taco deli is good but they are not worth anything the potatoes they use are mushy crap and it's over priced no way
Torchys and the oasis are austin classics he knows better then you people
6:11 Round rock donuts is not good I'm sorry. Donuts from your average donut shop in california are better but I guess thats not a fair comparison considering ca is the donut capital of the world. torchys.... lol
No tex mex?
For Tex-Mex: Chuy's if you want the classic Austin experience, El Alma or El Naranjo for something more upscale
Best vegan barbeque donuts?
I used to love Curra's for Mexican food, but don't even know whether it still exist...
Yes it does...
whoa whoa whoa there's no one who wants to eat at the oasis.
And Valentina’s is now out-of-business. They moved from the location on South Manchaca Road in South Austin to a giant food hall in Buda. I believe they were lured by the Buda city council with tax incentives to be an anchor tenant at a local shopping area. They went out of business within a year of moving in. VERY SAD!!
bbq spots good but torchys? so many authentic mexican taco places available.
bring 8 Texas restaurants and bars and bakery and groceries stores and shops to My country of Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
MY WIFE USE TO WORK AT SNACKBAR ❤
Well, not Valentina's any longer...
Torchy’s is to tacos like Panda Express is to Chinese food. Torchy’s tastes good until you find a REAL taco maker. Then you hate going back.
Tex mex chili
bro literally said all the tourist traps..lmao
Voodoo donuts!
The Oasis food is horrible the drinks are ok though.
Tacodeli is way better than Torchy’s!!
Its obvious that you aren't from around here. This is a Tourist list.
Oasis truly is only for its view. The food is average on a GREAT day…….not worth the drive!
Torchys is awful and 1 taco might cost youv$20
You’re trippin
If one taco costs you that much, then you're adding so much stuff to it that it isn't even a taco anymore.
Facts. Most taco trucks blow Torchys out of the water.
I have eaten at Torchys for a long time and I have never paid $20 for a taco.
Lived in Austin for 5 years and ppl are generally clueless about food. Barbecue is the only legit great thing here. Tex Mex is lame; Mexican in California is miles above anything here. Most overrated “food city” in the country.

They’re lying as a austin native none of the food mentioned here is good don’t come to austin
🤣🤣
Uh oh.
Bars are for broken people lol.
Your point is....
Sooo boring
This guy is a joke. Torchys suck and oasis was burnt down. Franklin bbq is equivalent to salt bae bs. Ther pe are better bbq all around tx
Did you burn Oasis down?
It has been repaired, but go for the booze, and the lake view!!
