My man was always pumped up to perform at his best against the Aussies... Not just in tests but also in ODIs.... 6 tests 100s and 4 ODI 100s against them... And both his 200s came against the Aussies... There was a time when the Aussies feared him more than Sachin... Wow... Those were the days!!! Thank you Cricket Australia!!!
( i was't there in that perticular ear) Yes i asked my father that VVS is rated very high then he said me that he used to be nightmare of Aussies even if they had their best bowling unit in playing 11
@@supremacy1243 An interesting snippet of fact for you. Once the historic 2001 test series was over, Warne had started to question his abilities and his confidence was at a low place. Laxman hit the same balls to covers, straight down the ground and thru midwicket... Their former players had talked to him and made him realise that he wasn't bad at all... It was just that Laxman was at his brutal best and no one could have done differently... Broke the confidence of one of the greatest spinners of all time... That's Laxman at his best for you. Also you have to watch the Mohali test match against the Aussies in which he played an extraordinary 4th innings to get India the victory. (Year : 2010)
Manish Pandey is a better batsman than VVS Laxman because Manish Pandey scored an unbeaten century against Australia in Australia in Sydney SCG while chasing the target of 330 in his fourth ODI of his career and third innings of his career.
@@makarandkinikar7786 that's the Australia I want to see. They've become too meek. Lee and Gilchrist were fine because they were legends anyway, nowadays half the players don't play well enough+ too soft.
To be fair, I didn't see much of a threat of the Aussie bowling attack shown here in this highlights video apart from Glenn McGrath. Damien Fleming is bowling in and around 125-135 kmph and on a typical Sydney pitch that's not enough.
I have watched this innigs live on TV, it was last innings of the disastrous 1999-2000 series, it gave immese pleasure to see laxman hitting aussie bowlers, one of best innings played by an Indian in aussie soil.
India lost 0-3 in absence of Azhar & Jadeja who were not selected on match fixing allegations. Laxman's 167 at SCG alongwith Sachin's 100 at MCG were only shining lights for India in this disastrous test series loss.
even if azhar was selected it wouldn't have made any change in the result. Jadeja was not a regular in the test side. Our bowling unit was not strong enough to bowl the opposition out in atleast one innings
Manish Pandey is a better batsman than VVS Laxman because Manish Pandey scored an unbeaten century against Australia in Australia in Sydney SCG while chasing the target of 330 in his fourth ODI of his career and third innings of his career.

100 percent TRUE., when he walked out to bat he was aware that if he failed again he WOULD NEVER play for 🇮🇳 and shed all his inhibitions and played a truly UNFORGETTABLE INNINGS🌹🫶💕🔥🌸😎
Manish Pandey is a better batsman than VVS Laxman because Manish Pandey scored an unbeaten century against Australia in Australia in Sydney SCG while chasing the target of 330 in his fourth ODI of his career and third innings of his career.
Incredible that his stats doubled after this innings. He would go on to score 8000 runs more at a excellent average of 46. The name that keeps haunting Australia many years later.
This was a career saving innings. I firmly believe that this was the catalyst to how Laxman shaped his career in the face of adversity and poor team performance, with the climax reached when he scored 281 against Aussies in the 2001 series. A legendary player who somehow lived under the shadow of Sachin but a match winner of the highest caliber.
By the time India got to this test match the team was battered and bruised, quite literally. The Aussies had smashed them in every match and the overall situation the team found itself in was pathetic to say the least. VVS had nothing to lose after being played out of position as an opener. He chose to let himself go in this innings as the tour was already lost and there was nothing but pride to play for. One can see how talanted he is in his stroke play. When the pressure is off his shoulders, Laxman is top class. Certainly one of the greatest innings by an Indian batsman played overseas.
Laxman actually thrived under pressure, so your statement is pretty wrong that he thrived when pressure is off his shoulders. In fact, in this innings he was under immense pressure because his career was at stake, he would have been dropped had he failed here, so from a personal point of view he was under immense pressure. Lot of Laxman's masterpieces were under pressure and when India needed the most.
Thanks AU Cricket channel for uploading this. I had “listented” to this innings on air (All India Radio) live and been searching for the full innings ever since. Two points I remember about this VVS innings: 1. Was included in top 100 test innings. 2. Was a record back then of scoring most percentage of runs (individually) of one’s team’s score in that particular innings.
Australia absolutely creamed India in this match and in the series. We Aussies could afford to enjoy the brilliant batsmanship of an obviously talented player. Little did we know that we were watching the beginning of what would be a very big headache for us for the next decade.
One if the finest player of the game. It’s a great treat to watch him play especially in the Test Cricket for sure.✅✅👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Some great great memorable partnerships by V. V. S. Laxman and Rahul Dravid. What a great partnership between these two great cricketers !!! Fabulous technique and always kept themselves low profile !!!👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Debut test series of Brett Lee, debut 100 of VVS Laxman and the batting romance of VVS on Australian soil had started since this series. He toured Australia 4 times 1999-00, 2003-04, 2007-08, 2011-12 and scored hundreds(167, 148, 178) in two series there! Treat to watch VVS bat in Australia! Thanks for the memories!!
Absolute top knock against a world class bowling attack comprising McGrath, Warner, B Lee & D Fleming 🔥🔥Laxman was in terrific form in that 1999-00 season even in FC cricket where he had amassed over a 1000 runs in the Ranji trophy helping Hyd reach the finals.
Was there that day. They were all crumbling around him. I think Tendulkar only got 4 and Dravid about the same, maybe even less. The best part of this innings is at 8:25 - Lee calling to Laxman and joining in the applause. Spirit of cricket
yep, noticed that too and add to that Brett Lee too was making his debut.
Why not? Against the likes of fleming, mcgrath and warne he completed his century in just 114 balls and that too in their own ground.
They had formed a bond of friendship since U19 days when Lee toured India in 1993-94.
And then there is Hazlewood who gives send offs to Indian batsman who score above 30 runs 😑
