I popped for this one over the Sapphire. The problem with see-through faces in a relatively simple movement like the Sellita SW 200 is there is not that much going on in the front of the watch, and seeing all of the date complication at once just takes away any of the magic of having the data pop up in the window. All of the action is at the back of the watch if you want an exhibition case. So the addition ion of the wave pattern to the dial adds visual interest for me (especially when loomed) and breaks up the monotony of a relatively static action at the front of the caliber. Finally the commitment of Chris Ward to recycling ocean plastic is important to me as a sailor, and the addition of those blue plastic elements on the case gives it some unique and attractive visual interest, for my taste at least. And let's not forget the premium features of 600 meter water resistance and COSC certification. This one is a home run for me.
i love the c60tide very much. Some may say the logo and the company name on the watch is lack of design. However i just hooked by the translucent dial and the trident. The c60tide is my very first collection at the age of 18.Just love it
I love it at as well. I though his opinion was entirely too biased for a “professional” review. On the wrist, this watch is as eye catching as anything I own and my collection ranges from ball to rolex, with a heavy biased towards grand seiko and omega. For the $$, this watch is a steal, and to the non watch enthusiast, it could pass for 20-30k easily.
I bought this watch in early 2022 while I was stuck at home having corona, I've always wanted a great diver and looked at christopher ward for some time, as a friend recommended this brand to me. Sure its a gimmick, but its just so different to other dive watches which have always the same pattern.
This is probably my favorite Christopher Ward watch. Great COSC certified watch, 42mm, great sapphire dial, amazing bracelet with tool-less clasp at an amazing price for a chronometer. The tide strap is pretty stiff and I did revert to the bracelet. Now if I can get them to do the orange sapphire in the same watch. I think perhaps you are being awfully hard on an excellent watch.
I've had the c60 Sapphire for about a year and a half. That dial caught my attention when I first saw it, and grew on me over months, until I finally bought it as my first, and so far only, diver. I don't much care that it's a diver; I like it because the look is interesting. The dial side of the movement does look strictly utilitarian, but seeing shades of the through the dial makes a tool watch look like a machine, which to me is cool. I have the bracelet and the hybrid strap; I've only ever worn it on the bracelet. It's attractive, well built, comfortable, and has on the fly adjustment, so don't see any need to wear it on anything else. And about the branding, I never would have noticed without all the bleating about it ad nauseam. It bothers me not a jot. The text balances the date. I think it's pleasingly laid out, and people are just stuck on the bog standard layout on every other watch. The strict vertical placement of the Tide looks sterile to me.
Some great points there Weiben. I've got the C65 Dartmouth, bought it on it's looks and not the fact it's a diver. I'm don't dive and I doubt that 95% of people that buy divers have ever dived more than the depth of their bath. Took me a while to get used to it, it wears big on the wrist case width wise, but it's very comfortable, slim, well built and well finished. The logo is centred, it says Christopher Ward in some kind of font that looks fine to me. And that's what matters, nobody else cares a hoot what watch you are wearing, the Rolex fanboys should take note, nobody. The fact that the wearer of the watch is happy with it is the number one reason anyone should buy a watch.
Great review Shane. I'd love to see the C63 GMT review. I'm also hanging out for a C65 Aquitaine GMT review!! So if you get your hands on one of them I'd love to see that.
It is not a gimmick. The transparant shappire dial make the dial look through mechanical style background turn the dial into better looking style. It has never been design as open-heart like everyone want to believe where showing some moving gear in front of dial. Not many watch brand try using saphirre dial could make this model among some rare option for the collection list. In fact i was looking for this mechanical display dial (not skeleton dial) for quite sometime, and finally some decent watch like CW appear 😅
Not for traditionalists but this is a very handsome and striking piece, which subtly stands out in a collection! Indeed, out of all my watches (Rolex, Omega, Longines, Oris, Hamilton, Zelos, Halios), this gets the most wrist time, either on the #Tide strap (which is great after a week or so of break-in) or the bracelet (which is phenomenal and stops it from feeling at all top heavy). That lume lasts all night long for reading the watch. I’m a bit surprised that you didn’t like it more, but you seem to have a more conservative style. That GMT is my second favorite, but too much of a Rolex homage for me to get as excited about. Cheers!
I think it's really pretty and the design doesn't detract from the legibility or utility, a win. At less than a £thou it would be very tempting, nicer than the original imho....
I’ve got the c60 sapphire I love it, the size is perfect for me with a 7.5” wrist great looking & the hybrid strap is as you say very good, cracking video 👍
I'm a sucker for a nice second hand counter balance, the Blue Angle, Ball Engineer, Zenith El Primero. For me, the dial is oddly secondary. Love the shots with your dogs, keep em' coming.
I bought this on sale , amazing sees more wrist time than I thought it would. The dail Luke does fade but on the rubber strap comfortable and dresses well.
Re the name on the dial, the Christopher Ward CEO has said that using both the dual flag and brand name on the dial was per legal advice and trademark issues. After 5 years the plan was to drop the name and go with just the dual flag logo. Five years have passed - the new watch bears just the logo. Good vid. Keep at it!
Very nice watch, but I still prefer my C60 Sapphire blue. Anyway CW made some great release in the last few years. One of my favorite brands and for sure one of the best, if not the best, for value for money.
Yes please!! Reviews on both Christopher Ward watches... And I'd say the super compressor goes first. As always Shane, it is quite interesting to know your point of view on all watches, as you always seem to find/question/ponder things no other reviewers do. Keep up the good work!!!
I'm a CW fanboy, but even I agree that the sapphire dials are a gimmick. I have the blue 40mm C60, and can recommend it for anyone looking for a slightly flashy, but still versatile diver. I'd love to see a review of the C63 GMT. I have a three hander I picked up when the C63 released, and it is one of my favourite watches.
Relative Time, I enjoyed your review and found it helpful. at 6:30 minutes in your review, you had a strap on that I'm interested in. How can I find that light blue washed-out strap?
Excellent review as always and I feel the same way as you about this one. I'm one of those people you mentioned who wouldn't buy a CW purely because of the logo, which I can't stand, so the updated branding is super interesting. Thanks Shane!
I do own a Christopher Ward C60 with a white dial. However I would also buy the Tide if it was also in a 40 mm case. This is where I draw the line, in the long run I believe I won't enjoy the 42 mm watch as much as I'd enjoy a 40.
Great and useful review, thanks! I have both the super-compressor in light blue and the GMT in black and love them both, amazing watches and really good quality for the price, especially with a discount.
Thoughtful and interesting review. I never knew there was a name for Blue Diver Syndrome, which I also suffer from. Boy, that C63 GMT sure looks great.
I currently have the Dartmouth and it's fantastic, but I do hope they do new dials for all their watches with the twin flags logo like the aquitaine. Also DIY watchclub now offer a sapphire dial dive watch using the nh72 which might be worth a look.
I actually have two C65s: the Trident GMT (newest ver) and a Dartmouth. The Dartmouth gets probably more wear time in my wrist and the lume is actually really good. It's a COSC certified diver as well. I was interested in the Tide, but I can actually agree with you on that it seems kinda gimmicky. I will most likely go with the C60 Trident Pro 600 diver and that will satisfy my Chris Ward watch collection.
I had the first C60 Sapphire Blue in 40mm for maybe about a month before I sold it. I am particular about my blues and it wasn't exactly the tone of blue I was looking for in the dial. Additionally, I personally found it hard to match with straps I had. Something about that specific blue always looked off and didn't quite match with as much as I'd hope.. and I have A LOT of aftermarket strap options. Suffice it to say, the novelty quickly wore off. But, it is a good looking well made watch. But, as you said, it's not for me. I imagine the experience with this one you have, the only real differences being size, dial wave texture, and COSC, All don't play a lot into the overall equation as the end result is essentially the same... Nice, but would rather have something else for that kind of money.
Interesting take on this: I kind-of liked the sapphire dial design as well, but never loved it, and that's *always* the difference that decides whether the trigger gets pulled on a watch or not. As for the two CWs already in your possession, I'd love to see your take on *both* , but I'm leaning a bit more towards the super compressor.
I had a c60 40mm in blue on bracelet and a hybrid strap. I always wished I bought the 42mm for some reason the 40mm felt stubby on wrist. Anyway great review C. Ward is doing some cool things but these sapphire dials don’t do it for me.
Shane, I own a C5 Malvern, a Super Compressor, and a Sapphire. I believe that the overall quality is as good as my Rolex, although the Sellita movement obviously falls short.

Beach lounger divers for those with too much money and not enough to occupy them. I'm perfectly content with my green wave Vostok Amphibian. Saving the ocean? Yeah, right!
This watch would be an incredible piece, however there are four screws on the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions clearly visible on the dial, which was a letdown for me. It looks like a cheap watch.
I gotta start a business selling a bunch of Chinese crap to a bunch of people., I can’t believe All these micro brands and companies can just keep churning out the same watch with tiny variations and people keep over paying for them .,it’s incredible
The "sapphire" dial does nothing for me (and performs the same function that a circular piece of translucent plastic would, since it's not exposed to wear). However... that GMT is *gorgeous* ...like, damn!
You have used your opinion and taste for a review entirely too much for my opinion. For “your” money, this watch is a steal. No one is to worried about what you are in the market for either. They just want your opinion on the quality.
Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that. I think someone's reasoning for things is extremely important, especially on a watch like this. It's a Christopher ward, you know the quality and value is there. Yet why should you pick it over any other Christopher Ward. That's where you need to know the logic and reasoning for someone's opinion. Anyway, thanks for watching and take care.

I miss my CW diver. Nicely built, great looking. I will get another CW. by the way, at 13:49....is that a light saber next to your watch? Red or blue?
Yes it is. Nothing comes out of it, it's an old mini collectable. Although it's supposed to be Darth Vaders, so I guess it would be red if it did.
I feel seen - "blue diver syndrome" indeed
YO WTF is up with those led lights in the background?
Just trying to make things more interesting than a simple black background.
@@RelativeTime skip the bullshit and stick to the cool-shit.
I gotta start a business selling a bunch of Chinese crap to a bunch of people.,
I can’t believe All these micro brands and companies can just keep churning out the same watch with tiny variations and people keep over paying for them .,it’s incredible
You could pretty much say that about almost every industry these days. Cell phones, computers, TVs, cars...

Totally
Blue diver syndrome!!!
The "sapphire" dial does nothing for me (and performs the same function that a circular piece of translucent plastic would, since it's not exposed to wear).
However... that GMT is *gorgeous* ...like, damn!
I agree with it being gimmicky. I'm disappointed in Christopher Ward for trying this. They are better then this.
first
Strange way of speaking.
Which part?
You have used your opinion and taste for a review entirely too much for my opinion.
For “your” money, this watch is a steal. No one is to worried about what you are in the market for either. They just want your opinion on the quality.
Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that. I think someone's reasoning for things is extremely important, especially on a watch like this. It's a Christopher ward, you know the quality and value is there. Yet why should you pick it over any other Christopher Ward. That's where you need to know the logic and reasoning for someone's opinion.
Anyway, thanks for watching and take care.
Is anyone willing to sell their c60 tide? Please let me know. Respond to this comment so we can make it happen
