When you have a crowd of people that are known for having "over the top" reactions over anything all of the sudden go silent for once. And you compare it to let's say Hero's reveal or the last pokemon direct, it's a polarizing sight to behold. To be clear, I have no issue with loud reactions with people jumping and screaming. It's good to be passionate about the things you like, especially with something like Smash. That being said, saying the difference between the reactions towards Byleth and all the other characters is jarring to say the least would be an understatement.

Honestly a weak character to end the first wave of DLC with. If they swapped Byleth and Banjo's releases a lot more people would have been happier about Byleth and people would have lost it over a final character like Banjo.
Banjo saved E3 for Nintendo, they needed to show off a hype character at E3. If Byleth and Hero got announced at E3 it would’ve been even more disappointing

IDK why they had to do a 2nd splash screen for Female Byleth. I can see why the crowd kinda died down, it was confusing since it makes it look like she was her own character apart from the male, but then they show the male doing the same thing.
The first half of the trailer are the worthless things like the sword, the introduction of the character in smash, the generic legendary sword, and the male alt, while the second half has the only good things, such as other weapons besides the sword and the female alt.
Actually on Twitter in Japan Cuphead elicited more of a response than Byleth did. Cuphead was trending at 32K tweets while Byleth only got 17.4K Tweets. Japan cared more about a Costume based on a North American video game based on old American cartoons than the Japanese Anime character. Truly no one was happy with this.

I think that byleth should have been in pass 2. I really like Byleth's inclusion but having them as the last dlc in wave one was a bad option. Should have made them first of wave 2 but oh well. IDK why they had to do a 2nd splash screen for Female Byleth. I can see why the crowd kinda died down, it was confusing since it makes it look like she was her own character apart from the male, but then they show the male doing the same thing.
They tried to give it more hype and failed miserably.
The first half of the trailer are the worthless things like the sword, the introduction of the character in smash, the generic legendary sword, and the male alt, while the second half has the only good things, such as other weapons besides the sword and the female alt.

Actually on Twitter in Japan Cuphead elicited more of a response than Byleth did. Cuphead was trending at 32K tweets while Byleth only got 17.4K Tweets. Japan cared more about a Costume based on a North American video game based on old American cartoons than the Japanese Anime character. Truly no one was happy with this.

But Cuphead is so recent that would have trigger not just DMC and KH fans but collective game fans because there are more legacy video game characters that are more in the front of the line and are more deserving, wich wasn't the case neither here. I think that byleth should have been in pass 2. I really like Byleth's inclusion but having them as the last dlc in wave one was a bad option. Should have made them first of wave 2 but oh well. People are over reacting a bit since it's not like there will be no more new fighters but some of the backlash makes sense

The smash fan base has such a deep hatred for fire emblem and “sword characters” three houses is one of the highest selling switch games and is pretty damn good it’s just the smash fan base can’t understand that swords are a common weapon used by popular video game characters

Dude, I'm probably as hype as hype can be for this (I almost fell out of my chair when I recognised the TWSITD theme at the beginning). I absolutely ADORE Three Houses and while I might have prefered one of the lords over Byleth (namely Edelgard), I'm just so stoked to see 3H rep at all; the lack of spirits was making me nervous. I like Byleth anyways and they look like fun so this was a good day for me.
