I started collecting coins when I was a kid. I first became aware of and intrigued by the Sovereign when I watched the 1963 James Bond movie "From Russia With Love" - where Bond was given an attache case with 50 gold Sovereigns concealed inside. Now I will occasionally add one to my collection when I see a nice one I don't have at a price I can afford.
Awesome coins! Sovereigns are fun- I acquired one, but after watching many RUclips videos, I’m having a hard time figuring out if it’s genuine or counterfeit! I guess there are some good copies out there, even with the same composition
The Young head Victoria Shield type has in this video an S below the shield for Sydney Australia, at a time when each of the current Stares were stand alone colonies, later Federated in 1910. Shield types with a die number below shield are of course British. Sovereigns with no letter on the ground below the dragon are London mint. About 1900 it was reported some 40% of sovereigns in circulation in London were by Australian mints. Perth mint commenced minting Sovereigns and half Sovereigns from 1899 through to 1931. The Poms being Poms, sought to discount a perceived inferior colonial sovereign with a unique Sydney Mint pattern, markedly different from Shield types or the StGeorge and Dragon (Reintroduced from 1872) Reverses, only to find the earliest Sydney Mint types were 22 carat gold alloyed with silver rather than gold. Typically Australian native alluvial and hard rock gold has a high gold content and often contained silver resulting in a pale electrum look to the coins which is very attractive.
And tonight I learned where the mms are located. Too bad the Brits never found the owner of that cache of 913 Sovereign s and half sovereign s came from they found hidden in the piano?

All the Great Britain coins look stellar to me. Awesome designs.
Sovereigns rock! Great history and awesome, well-known, fractional gold to own.
Quick and informative, Thanks Ben😀🇺🇸
Very helpful. I've always wondered how the grading companies could tell where the sov's were from.
Damn Ben you had me worried its 2pm and you just now uploaded
St George slaying the dragon is a great story in the book: Curious Myths of the Middle Ages; vol 2, by Sabine Baring-Gould.
Beautiful coins!
Thanks for the video.
The business card is giving me Monopoly Pennsylvania Avenue vibes.

3:57 does have a mint mark, it is just on obverse below the queen
