I painted sets in Hollyw for many years so honestly I know what I'm talking about. Your final product is one of the best I've seen online. Your procedure was pretty simple and looks better than people who performed a bunch of time consuming tricks. We used wallpaper paste rather than mustard but same effect keep up the good work
Seriously?? Damn, that's cool! I don't do cosplay or anything like that, but this is the kind of look I love for things in my yard...old and weathered, without having to wait for it to get old and weathered. Thanks for the great tutorial.❤ I'll be tucking this video away in one of my RUclips playlists.
I had he same idea. AR said he has not done the rust on stainless steel… but I say anything that came out would be an improvement on s.s. I can’t believe people would want the maintenance . I love rust and grey wood!
Sort of Speechless right now. I have an old 88 Toyota Pickup that I was going to use modern masters patina on but this seems so much more effective and less detrimental to the actual body. Thanks a bunch! If I use this method, Ill certainly share the results here.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 😁 this is definitely both a kinder and cheaper method. And yes, please share! Makes me super happy to see every time 😊❤
I usually frown on faux finishes, opting to go the extra long way around to obtain the real thing instead. But in some circumstances that can be just about impossible. The results for this example are very believable, I'm impressed.
I’ve just come across your video and love it! I wonder if this technique could be done on wood. I’d like to try painting my son’s desk in some cool finish and wonder if this would work.
Hi! I'm glad you loved it! This technique can be used on basically anything as long as it's not too porous and can handle being rinsed off with water. So as long as it's treated, primed or painted to start with there should be no issues with wood. Hope that helps! 😊
I agree with the others... about the best effect I've seen online. Good background music too. Not annoying or distracting, like so many other's videos (what were they thinking?)
This is a great effect! Thank you for sharing im gonna use this on a guitar im refinishing, one question why mustard?.i understand thin and thickness and spots but can anything els be used?
Glad you like it! The reason I use mustard is because it's cheap, easy to get and easy to wash off with plain water 😊 you could definitely use toothpaste or honey as well.
@@bloodshotbelle @Andrew Vitale I learned a similar process that uses Vaseline instead of mustard. I don’t know why except it holds up to several layers of oil or spray enamel, but cleanup is tougher.
hello I love the technique you use but I have a Volkswagen beetle do you understand that it can be done in an area as big as a car or maybe it loses a bit of reality..... you can do it in something bigger help me thanks
That looks really good! I would like a Rawstyle finish for my Vespa. I just don't know if I can get it to look right on the whole Vespa. Does it work with a different green?
It would look amazing on a Vespa for sure! The choice of colors are entirely up to you but I would recommend always doing a test piece first, I usually have two or more colors I chose between and try them out on pieces of cardboard with the effect I'm using to see which combo I like the best 😊
I guess that depends on what you mean by patina, are you thinking like using a corrosion activator instead of paint? Because I haven't tried that but now I have to 😁 otherwise it can definitely be used to create a patina effect of you choose your colors wisely and add extra distressing effects.
@@bloodshotbelle I would like to have a finish similar to that but with a Black finish.I wonder if you could spray the vehicles original base coat colour followed by the top coat and what you have done here so you get the same effect but with some base coat showing through too
Cheaper than mayo (at least here in Sweden), easier to rinse off with water than heavier oil based alternatives 🤷🏻♀️ It's just a personal preference really. But to quote the description above: YES, almost any medium with same texture and properties will work as masking fx mayo, toothpaste and so on
Yes, it's the original paint sanded down as much as possible, originally I was going to strip it but liked the patchy look and decided to keep it since I'm going for a postapocalyptic look anyway 😁 but you can experiment with different looks like bare metal, rusted metal, layers of older paint and so on. And thank you! ☺
@@bloodshotbelle Nice.I have stripped my drum set and am painting it in this style.Even bought the mustard today.Have all the drums primered in black and with the first layer of matt Montana black paint on. Tomorrow its mustard time. Will post a video on my channel when they are done :)
imagine this, 1. polish the sheet and leave it without paint, 2. prime the sheet with burt umber color or oxide color, 3. let dry, 4. place the moztaza, 5. paint the color you want the sheet, 6. let dry and remove the moztaza, 7. apply transparent bilayer and voila, a 1949 chevrolet pickup will look very good ... your proposal is super nice.
I guess that depends on whether you are planning to gently lick it off instead of cleaning up the mustard with water and a rag as recommended. To be honest I don't think mayo covered in paint tastes that much better than mustard but that is just a qualified guess as I have not tried either myself. I also cannot recommend stripping away any type of masking by licking it as it is a inferior method both in regards of the time efficiency and causing physical strain on the body.
Depends on the paint, the one I'm using in the video is a really quickdrying one that dries in an hour or two but basically just dry enough to not get rubbed off but not the full drying time. Hope that helps, just lwt me know if you want me to elaborate further 😁
I don't know, haven't tried 😁 it is a bit more watery consistency so it might bleed more but worth a go! Also I'm guessing it's a little bit more acidic than mustard so if used on untreated metals like f x copper it might stain it - I know the mustard does. It will probably look cool though but just a heads up 😁
Just the effect I’ve been looking for on my old Jeep. Best and easiest looking patina job I’ve seen so far

can the wall paper paste be as easily rubbed away?
It’s from the vinegar
One of the best techniques I have seen do far. Thank you!

Go to junkyard, buy one, do it just for the tutorial...

Question- did you prime the base black? What kind of paint would you use to prime under this technique?
Could you use this technique to do patina on a vehicle?

Can anyone tell me how dry the paint should be before cleaning off the excess? Are we talking 5 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day?
Why use mustard and not something like petroleum jelly or mayo or something?
