6 Biggest Megalodon Enemies Ever Existed

  • Megalodon was the biggest shark of the ocean 23 million years ago. It could grow up to 60 ft, and its jaw bite was stronger than a T. Rex’s. So you might think there was nothing that could stop it. But even this massive shark had enemies, and their fights could be lethal.
    TIMESTAMPS:
    Cetotherium 1:36
    Zygophyseter Varolai 3:08
    Aulophyseter 4:31
    Brygmophyseter Shigensis 5:27
    Rhamphosuchus 6:36
    Livyatan Melvillei 8:03
    Music: ruclips.net/user/audiolibrary...
    SUMMARY:
    - Cetotherium was a baleen whale from the Cetotheriidae family. It lived from the mid-Miocene period to the Early Pliocene period and grew up to 15 ft. Fossil records have revealed that Cetotherium would be Megalodon’s top target.
    - Zygophyseter lived in the late Miocene period, some 11 to 7 million years ago, and it cruised the Mediterranean region. From fossil records, paleontologists have gathered that Zygophyseter grew to be 20 ft long. It had an asymmetrical cranium, which is commonly associated with high-frequency sound production and echolocation.
    - Aulophyseter was a huge whale, very similar to modern-day sperm whales. Sperm whales are the largest creatures and the largest toothed whales today. Aulophyseter lived in the Miocene period.
    - Brygmophyseter was a highly dangerous sperm whale. The only known fossil is a nearly complete skeleton that is dated at 14 to 15 million years old. From it, paleontologists gathered that Brygmophyseter was 23 ft long. Theories suggest that it swam in pods as other whales do.
    - Rhamphosuchus is one of the largest known crocodiles ever to roam Earth. The world wouldn’t even be aware of the existence of Rhamphosuchus if it wasn’t for the discovery of incomplete sets of fossils that are mostly teeth and skulls. Rhamphosuchus is estimated to have been 26 to 36 ft long.
    - Livyatan and Megalodon were 2 of the most terrifying creatures to roam the oceans, and both lived during the Miocene period. Livyatan was a whale that was 60 ft long and weighed up to 50 tons. Its largest teeth were up to 14” long.

Literally all the prehistoric marco raptorial killer cachalots could be a threat to meg. It just depends on the size and health of the meg and the number of killer cachalots. Meg wasn't invincible.

    • @trvth1s
      @trvth1s 3 года назад +19

@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks I guarantee you no cachalots in history would have stood a chance against an adult healthy meg. In Florida ive seen plenty of bull shark, gws and tiger shark encounters with dolphins their same size, the sharks win 10 out of 10 times.
Mammals have soft bodies and oceanic mammal dentition is built for grabbing.
Shark skin is tough and their jaws are unique, built to take a chunk of flesh out. There's a video on youtube of a shark splitting a dolphin its size in half.
Megs would not have an issue with any toothed whale. In fact, they outcompeted the levyiatan

These videos are the absolute best! I don't have too many memories of my biological dad, but I vividly remember him taking me and the rest of my family to all the big museums in downtown Chicago, including the Shedd Aquarium where I marvelled at all the weird and exotic marine life. Those are great memories that I will always cherish, no matter what age I am. At 57 years of age, I think I'm a little old to go back to school to study to become a paleontologist! But no matter! I still love to watch these videos (and read books) about prehistoric forms of life. It's just amazing stuff. My mother is always telling me the worst things about my dad! But...I'm very glad that I inherited his great love of learning. My father had plenty of issues, but he was a very smart and well educated man. Hey dad, thanks for taking me to the aquarium. Great memories! I will always remember that.

While Megalodon may have ultimately succumbed to extinction, its legacy as one of the most fearsome predators in the history of life on Earth continues to captivate and inspire fascination to this day.

  • @DeonChristie

Pretty scary to think that a Megalodon had "Enemies" considering its size. But with the Oceans being so huge, makes one wonder if it really went extinct or just adapted to colder water with the start of the Ice Age. Considering we have but explored around 5% of the Oceans, leaving 95% open to debate and speculation. There is another interesting (And Debatable) theory. Sharks have the ability to raise their body temperature (Called Mesothermy) to a temperature higher than the surrounding water. What if the Megalodon used this ability to survive the Ice Age?
As Megalodon had an appetite for whales, the beginning of the Ice Age brought a few interesting theories. At this time it is believed that whales moved closer to the Ocean Floor and colder water as a means of survival and escaping starvation. And as the Megalodon allegedly preferred warmer water it is speculated that this survival method of whales may have contributed to the Megalodon (Alleged) extinction. But there is another survival theory.
The Livyathan and Megalodon is believed to have both gone extinct during the same time period. But what if the Megalodon turned to the Livyathan as prey, therefore the Livyathan went extinct and the Megalodon did not? What if the Megalodon didn't go completely extinct. But rather adapted to colder waters as a means of survival? Using its Mesothermy capability as a means of survival, and also escaping extinction through starvation. Something to think about, next time you visit the oceans. Furthermore, there are many recent claims of spotting the Megalodon. What if Global Warming is the perfect time for the Megalodon to explore warmer Oceans? Just a thought.

Then begins to explain it's method of feeding on small organisms and then into how megaladon would hit from beneath and it would be too stunned to respond.... What? Like for real... WHAT?

Titanoboa from a partial skull and one or two vertebrae iirc. I'm sure many dinos are only known from one or a few fossils & of course fossil sharks are primarily just known from teeth and some rare vertebrae vast majority of the time. Crazy is right (also fossil bite marks on their prey help)
