I did end up liking the look of the Pixel Remaster, but one of my biggest problems with it is the lack of weather effects from the psp version. With Bafsk (5:50) they really dropped the ball. The sunset effect in the PSP version was really nice, and the PR version not only does not have that, but it also doesn't have the orangish pallet that even the PS1 version had.
PSP version was a perfect blend of the original feel while improving the look of the game. For the next time ill go with the PR next time I want to revist the game.
@@yanbelmiro7961 And if it actually happens, they should reinstate the content from the GBA and PSP versions, and the monster sprites recycled from the PSP version. The character sprites would be made from scratch. The intro before the first battle would be reinstated.
Its funny because while its cleaner and bigger and better sprites; to me it kinda looks like an RPG Maker game of modern times too much. Where as PS1 version manages to avoid it somehow (tho i played rpg maker 2k to VX/MV, whatever new one is) and NES is old school. I love em all really, but my favourite is PS1 version (:
Along with FF1, FF2 is my favorite in the series. I was impressed by the amount of hate that this game has. This is for you guys!: -The game isnt broken, at least the GBA and PSP remakes. All the spells works, hitting your characters isnt neccesary, just optional, and is much better than newer games where this is just useless and level up is very quick if you fight with high rank monsters. -Contrary to what some people said, the game explains you the mechanics, at least in these two remakes, in a room on the rebel base. -The game never makes you grind a lot, in fact, i found it one of the less grinding games in the franchise along with FF1. -Even if all of these was true, the game was released in 1988 in a console that was a potato. And in terms of character level up, is one of the most realistic RPGs i ever seen. -I can understand why some people think the dungeons are somewhat annoying, although the combats itself arent really too hard, and is very funny when the fanbase praise FF5, 6, 7, 8 when this games have like 10 times more grinding and 10 times more annoying encounter rate! Welcome to the hypocrites club! I will show you the way.
I appreciate they wanted to stay faithful to the original final boss sprite, but it looks so damn goofy now. The NES/FC version had most of his body fade into the black background... but without it, the Emperor now looks like some strange creature that's only an upper body, one arm and small cape. I'd say it's easily the worst of the four, and one of the few times where staying faithful to the original was pretty much a detriment.
I kind of like the PS1 version the best, the art style is consistent, and it has a darker tone. The PC version is not bad, but they need to fix the ugly font and update it with the bonus content from the previous versions.
Pixel Remaster looks good no doubt and I'm happy about it (except not being released on more platforms); HOWEVER, the PSP still looks the best no argue there.
PC >= PSP >> PS1 >> NES PC versions excels in "quality of life" improvements, while the PSP excels in game artwork. PS1 is not so great at higher resolutions like the PC version.
I think the PSP version looks and sounds the best, only downside is that the screen is too much zoomed in so you can't see a lot of the map, which can be a pain in those labyrinth-like dungeons. I think this is the version for those looking simply for the best visuals. The pixel remaster basically took the original NES graphics and added more colors to them. It's ok and does the job but I don't like the fact that they used the same text font they've been using in the modern FF games, they just don't fit well with the retro graphics. I think the best thing about it are the quality of life features and the game seems a bit easier. This might be the version for those seeking a better gameplay experience in general.
The graphics style in the PSP version is nice, but you're missing out on the "quality of life" improvements in the pixel remaster version that makes this game more fun to play. I believe they were going in different directions. PSP version was more about replacing the original graphics with new art. While the pixel remaster retains the original graphics but enhances or remasters them.
@@brannanbenjamin I would not be able to recall everything, but there is 1.5x speed Auto-Battle which automatically inputs the previous commands including multi-targeting, there is ability to equip in shops, there are detailed maps of each area with chest and item tallies, there are quick saves, there are auto-saves with each new room you enter, you can move diagonally, you have the additional ability to dash for some games that didn't have it originally, and likely other things like re-balancing of leveling up, ability points, and gaining gil. Yes, but it also has stat penalty and the magic level up formula is from the GBA version instead of the PSP version. For me those things makes more difference.

Gigantic bug eyes on PSP. Yeah no thanks. Honestly i just wish they used Adult sprites of upgraded classes from FF1 NES/Famicom. Looked the best. FF characters have always looked like toddlers from FF2-FF6 for some reason after that
PSP looks like a cheap, chibi style mobile game. Not as bad as the PSP version of FF1, but still not as good as PS1. For the first two FF games, PS1 is king
I honestly am finding I prefer the PR looks of 1-3 more than the previous versions and I have played all of the ones in this video. There's a simplistic charm to the NES sprites that is missing from the sprite work of the post-Origins release - the body proportions are also off even for the SNES-like look they picked. The PSP version loses the look entirely for these big bulky chibis that look like they walked out of Gaia Online where you can *really* see the lack of expressions on them. PR strikes a better balance between updating the NES sprites to a full color palette while respecting the original game's aesthetic. Honestly, I don't even mind losing the bonus dungeons. If I ever want them back, I still have my PSP and GBA versions. If the goal was to just update the NES version without feeling the need to cram in extra dungeons to justify the asking price, the goal was met. I will say, I realize the color choices of the NES version are a limitation of the platform, but the first battle at 0:32 actually looks a lot more frightening with the ghostly blue color of the enemy soldiers on a black background. Having a brightly colored forest as in every single one of the remade versions actually seems to limit the terror of the main characters being cut down trying to escape the destruction of everything they've ever known and loved.
@@Rebochan What im referring is that the graphics were in reality much better than a lot of mobile games.
