ISHITANI - Making a Japanese zelkova Low Table

- The round slice wood will crack as it dries. So we do not recommend the round slice wood table. This time, we explained to the client about the crack, and made this at the client's request. This Japanese zelkova is a tree of memories of clients.
輪切りの木材は乾燥と共に割れていってしまうので、テーブルなどを作るのをお勧めしないのですが、今回はご依頼人様から思い出の木をお持ち頂き、割れについてご了承のもと製作いたしました。

Does anyone else get a little sad when the music starts because it means the end of the video is approaching? :)
Sure. I think this video was the fastest 7 minutes i ever watched
Yes! It’s over so soon.
Well said.
6:14 ... not that I was obsessed with it or anything. 😢
the music started and I was thinking, "wait, he didn't take the dog for a walk yet"
Every time I watch one of your videos, I'm amazed at how something that looks at first to be simple is done with such jaw-dropping skill that its elevated to another level. The tenons into the round legs is a great example - utter perfection. Please keep the videos coming.
I wish more people in the world would learn not woodworking skills but what it means to pay attention to details. So much of the stuff we consume whether it is food, clothing, entertainment, music, writing etc all are getting homogenized and people are not willing to put in the time and energy into the craft, whatever that maybe. I don't believe Mr.Ishitani does anything so as to gain more monies. I think it is a character trait that has been instilled in him to want to pay attention to detail and has a work ethic to deliver quality and not to compromise on it. I share this video and others with people hoping they may learn the value of the quality work and what does into making it happen.
I along with the many 1000's who watch these videos seem to have great respect for the work and the presentation. Thank you..
You’re my all time favorite furniture maker/woodworker I’ve found on RUclips and an inspiration for me to get into Japanese woodworking as well. I wish you could make a video telling us how you got into the craft and just more information about yourself. Anyway keep up the amazing work and I can’t wait for the next video.
Again, beautifully simple design with the intricacy in the joinery discrete so as not to distract from the lovely cross section table top. Certainly a table for the generations this one. Big shout to Chei for the sublime editing and Shiro for just being Shiro too.
To me, your videos are pure meditation. Even your dog is adding to the calmness.
Thank you for taking the time to make those videos.
We can learn a lot from our Japanese brothers. I am an old craftsman but yet I am still in awe
at this man. What a great companion his dog is, and lucky to have a haircut from such a man.
You are a true artist sir. I've watched all your videos and I love every one of them. Thank you for sharing your work with us
the filmmaking, the artisanship. these episodes are special and some of the best content i've seen on line. thank you for what you do
That is a beautiful, majestic piece of wood - looks like it could be a hundred years old (trying to count the rings for its age). I am so glad you left it natural and did not smooth down the bark. I love that you made the legs and trestle support the slab of wood, almost like an offering!
Your craftsmanship amazes, please keep building, filming and sharing.
That dog looks like it is so content with its life!
The furniture making and the videography are equal arts to me.
the most beautiful table I have ever seen. Thank you.
The simplicity of the design allows it's inner beauty to be seen by all...
Shiro is such a chill dog!
certainly chillier after the hair cut! I believe Japan is hot 'n humid in the summer
Shiro is a zen dog
So beautiful, I love japanese woodworking.
Hey man, great work as usual. The skin on your hands is looking healthy as well, good to see you not needing gloves!
I didn't think it was possible to get such a good quality finish on a large surface with an electric planer. That's interesting!
Chie makes beautiful videos. I like this channel a lot.
Very nice!
I think if the tree has special meaning then the checking also shows how dynamic memories can be even after the moment.
This is an especially inspirational piece for me, as I have several round slices of this sort and had never considered a supporting frame as you've shown us here. An elegant solution and one that I am going to have to attempt ;)
You do such beautiful work Mr. Ishitani.
As always, more one beautiful project! About the music, yes, not sad but just waiting for the next video in those wonderful workshop with this dog
Beautifully simplistic
Wonderful! Even the dog is a masterpiece.
Congratulations..We miss the videos of ISHITANI.
This table is so beautiful like U'r life...U always let wood's natural character.... Goood!!
OMG... 2.20 - 2.35 takes hours for me. No machines and a love for perfection takes a lot of time. 😉☺
I love your designs and your videos.
Thank you very, very much!
Have a beautiful weekend! 🌳🌲😍
Happy greetings from Germany to Japan! 👋🏻🙂🇩🇪🇯🇵❤
Hours? I would at least invest in a drill press then, to hog out most of the material first. But still, there is little more satisfying than doing it all by hand!
Tjalling Might be true best for you. But this is just a hobby for me. A peripher one. So it makes no sence to invest in machines. And I like hand crafts more. I love it to connect woods completely by hands or with old techniques. Are you Skandinavian? Then, you know what I mean. For example by roasted wooden dowels hammered into the hole and then watered. You can never disconnect this and it is hand-made and without any glue. I love it!
And it takes hours for doing this on the chairs am working on. So doing the same many times. And I need to do it perfectly. I don't like mistakes, even when nobody can see them. But I know that they exist when I don't work perfectly. 😉
Just when building a carport or a little chicken coop I allow smaller invisible mistakes. 😉😄

Trabalho bonito, voce é muito talentoso. Hoje o carimbo foi em japonse??? Que madeira milenar era essa? Tira onda de aparador de pelos caninos!!! Beautiful work, you are very talented. Today the stamp was in Japanese ??? What ancient wood was that? Take a wave of canine hair trimmer !!! 美しい作品、あなたはとても才能があります。 今日のスタンプは日本語でした??? それは何の古代の木でしたか? 犬の毛のトリマーの波を取る!
Beautiful work 😁
