- The back straight of this historic street circuit was once a tram line. Some say it still is with how hard it is to pass around here!

For anybody who didn't get that safety car reference:
It's about the very first time Franz Engstler ever led a race in the world touring car championship.
Here is the video of that event, pay particularly close attention to the beginning of lap 2:
ruclips.net/video/EfQ2jjn0w-s/видео.html
I live in Pau, and I just want to add two things:
-The kerb in the last chicane is scarier IRL
-There's a sex shop and a Jehovah's Witnesses church on the right side of the start/finish line
The dichotomy of man
Oh, and one more thing:
-If you're mad enough, I've already seen IRL some overtakes in the last chicane on the wet (in F3), but seriously don't do that, there's a wall dude
Est tu allé au lycée Barthou pour couronner le tout ?
Je suis de Pau, né et grandi ici ^^
Jesus
@@ItzAnonyms Non, je vis à Pau depuis 2019, j'suis Normand de base x)
this is probably the only track id feel safe walking the sidewalks during a race
Modern problems demands some ancient solutions - gravel traps are overrated, long live sidewalks!
As a frenchman i’m glad you talk about our historic tracks. Pau is very unic and nobody today could create a new race in a small french town. So let’s enjoy this capsule of time.
But did you ever thought, that there's a Circuit in the world, that would make Monte Carlo Street Circuit look like a bloody Autobahn? Because daym, this track is narrower, than Hamilton fans (no offense) view of what's allowed and what isn't.
It's not on the FFSA GT calendar this year :/
@@valentin7574 Because they keep causing pileups in the race at Pau, that and it's Alpine's hunting grounds
Ah yes, the pau street circuit.
That one circuit where a man without legs won a race here.
god bless Alex Zanardi 🙏
@@AdrianBelmonte96 i was refering to Billy Monger but you're still absolutely right, bless him
to be honest i didn't know Billy raced here, let alone getting a win, i said Zanardi cause Pau was part of the WTCC calendar and given he raced there and won races, me and my peanut-sized brain made the connection that he'd probably won here
bless Billy Monger too 🙏
It would have been an advantage I'm sure
I’m never going to be able to unsee the track map as a skydiving ghost.
Thanks for bringing this track back up to modern attention, there's something about ridiculous street circuits that tickles the brain juices.
I purchased Race Pro for the Xbox 360 and only raced on Pau and Porto
Pau my beloved
Fancy seeing you 2 here
Smol
Yeah, nobody would build a ridiculous street circuit these days, espcially not in like, Nashville. Unless...
@@jammydodger7065 Oh man, Porto... Those 2 chicanes on the back stretch... Nothing more to say about this track lol
I’m genuinely glad you roasted this track because whenever I tried taking cars round that High School hairpin, it never lets me get away with anything, understeer here oversteer there, late exit, and that roundabout that comes out of f***ing nowhere… it’s like I’m on a mountain road but without the scenery to calm my mind
You forgot 2 little things:
1- it's nicknamed little Monaco
2- the term grand prix for a motorsport event was introduced and first used in Pau
It's always amazing to witness the streets I've driven on so many times already being part of a racetrack.
I have grown up in Pau with the Grand Prix being yearly feature as well as having studied at the Lycée Louis Barthou which closes at the end of Thursday to allow for practice sessions to happen.
Thanks for the video, wondered if you would ever make on about it for a long time, got my wish!
No wonder those who win here go far. It seems like the sort of track where you absolutely must be on point every lap and corner.
Nicknamed "little Monaco" for a reason indeed, even if it's been raced on for longer than Monaco ^^
Always a good day when you upload.
Those kerbs look absolutely terrifying.
They're scary even in a rally car, and public roads are second-nature to those things.
This is the universe when Clarkson and Hammond reached Pau in Top Gear’s The Perfect Road Trip
Damm those curbs are like the speed bumps in my street
I like this track ngl
Otherwise known as Curbsper the unfriendly boundaries
Along with Monaco and the TT, probably the last “proper” road course
And Macau
And Bathurst
@@simoneburini4036 I hope I step on a LEGO for missing that track out lmao. Best track..... IN THE WORLD
To be fair he's right about death curves solving problems
"oh wow this track map looks like this circuits alot of fun with these fast bits and slower sections say where is this track a-"
"its a street circuit"
"nevermind"
Gotta be extra careful around here - You easily fall on your Pau!
_Low level joke about how Pau sounds close to the affore-mentioned Teletubby "Po", yet it describes the "derrière" of a French person with one possible German word for it, carry on_
Love this concept of video. Very fun way to learn a new circuit
I love this series
Ah Pau, the poor man's Monte Carlo. I actually enjoy racing GT3 cars on here in AC.
These are without a doubt my favorite videos in sim racing. Great job as always 👍
In the early 2000s, the FFSA GT Championship raced here.
How they fit 25 Dodge Vipers and 15 Porsche 911s on here I will never know, there was also a lot of passing.
Long have I waited for the return
Omg he's back
Gotta admit I did a double take when I saw the title of this one. Great vid man!
Happy new year Southpaw, i actually like this track
This is a super nice track I didn't know about! Gonna have to try it later
Love Pau. Amazing track to still exist
The Pau Cicuit layou always looked like a ghost to me
This track looks amazingly fun. Reminds me of the Toronto street circuit here in Canada, Long Beach GP and a bit of Tokyo R246 from Gran Turismo.
I downloaded this track 2-3 years ago (classic spec for sure, and I think I have a more modern layout), and I finally drove it last year, mostly in road cars and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! it's a unique experience, and very rewarding if you can get the driving line just right.
last time I was this early my dad wasn't at the store
Happy new year
That looks fun. Grabbing a version for RF2.
Love this track! I did a Seat Cupra Cup race with ThePitCrew here and it was genuinely awful. It's slightly more bearable in a TCR style car, but that's barely.
Every one should look up pictures of the 1933 Pau Grand Prix. It was the first and it was run in the falling snow in February. Beautiful pictures
I Remember an event on rfactor with mini Cooper. First lap, last chicane 20fps. Ahhh good old days.
The curbs rule and every single track in the entire world should have them lining the whole thing
i love that last sector
our ideas on what makes a good race track are almost exact oposites
it's all in the name of entertainment and good fun!
@@SouthPawRacer that's part of why I love these I you pick on the parts I love most
F3000 used to race here back in the day. Montoya won by 35s
welcome from the future
3:35 that's what sausages are for!
Ah Pau, Monaco on LSD.
For years, that was a combo I only associated with Macau. I see now that you can be more ridiculous than Macau and that is both impressive AND terrifying.
i cant belive wtcr will replace pau-arnos by this... Man Pau-arnos is becoming one of my favorites circuits!
We're lucky to have both a historical street circuit and the permanent Pau-Arnos track, but the street circuit is where all the glory resides
I hadn't known that the sidewalks of Pau were within the barriers. It must be a beautiful place nonetheless. Somehow, I feel it doesn't belong in this series because it's such a beautiful place. What's next? Macao?
The next SSTG will be Summit Point Jefferson layout, as voted by my patrons!
The second half is a serious of pau-pau corners. 😋
I remember driving this track in ac and thought that someone just made a track mod of their hometown. When I saw this video I was like: "Wtf people actually race here?"
Monaco: finally a worthy opponent
Pau Street circuit has earned the nickname Little Monaco even if it has held racing events for far longer than Monaco ^^
Love your french accent ^^
The what do i do section is my favorite in race, because since, nobody know what to do, if virtualy you have the balls, it's an big overtake opportunity, if your car has the highest height ride possible.
And why we haven't see the plushie Seat Leon WTCC ? The track is present in Race 07
You should try “togligatti ring”. Absolute crap of a track, but i loved it a lot for a long time
SouthPauRacer
I don't like street circuits from a spectators perspective (At least not on TV anyway) but I've dont a few street races on motorbikes and there's nothing like it. They're so damn fun, despite being incredibly dangerous
We need a macu review
Since Formula E is primarily a street-circuit championship. I wonder how possible it would be for Pau to host an FE race? They've already tackled Monaco with great success so who knows?
Didn't know this track was a thing tbh.
I might love this circuit more than Monaco
Time to do assetto corsa luccaring
Do you think you could make a guide for Daytona? It's a very complex circuit, I find it super hard to know what to do. Turns 1 and 2 are especially tricky.
There's a million lines and none of them are right
Do Long Beach Street Circuit next! (Game: Assetto Corsa)
Wait It does look like a skydiving ghost!Lol!
Formula Regional has never raced in Pau
ok but can a ford f150 super ultimate deluxe widebody mega ultra truck do it
5:05 ayo?
Question: Do you script these Videos and Texts and if so how much?
Yes! they are heavily scripted. Shot list, script revisions, the whole nine yards. That's part of the reason why I take so damn long to put them out :P
@@SouthPawRacer well thank you for taking the time to make these videos for our entertainment
@@SouthPawRacer Yes i also have to thank you! You are very entertaining and i can relate to it. Also its very interesting and people can learn about tracks and facts about them! You found a niche on RUclips which isnt filled and you are the perfect one to fill it! Thanks for your work. Another Question: Do you work outside of this channel and if yes (and if your comfortable answering) What?
Thanks for your effort you put into the Videos and thanks for answering! Happy new year!
@@gamerforlife9988 Happy new year and cheers for the kind words - yes, I do work outside the channel. I stream weekly on Traxion's Twitch channel (I also have my own twitch that I want to stream more to), I commentate iRacing broadcasts for SimSpeed and GSRC, and on rare occasions I've done real life media work :)
These curbs separate the men… from their lives
european macau, no?
Ok, now do Macau
And then the Nurburgring
And then the Isle of Man TT Circuit
And then the route of the Tour de France
Cant decide if that looks great or awful
A petition for every single kerb in Monza becoming a sidewalk.
Do you want flying cars? This is how you get flying cars.
@@StarkRaven59 To be fair, we still get flying cars with the Curbs we have now (Abit too many if you ask me).
You failed to mention Augusto Farfus Jr.'s crash at the first chicane in 2007...just in case that corner wasn't concerning enough as it is.

How the hell is this track even legal?
F1 2022:
Masi: Okay guys, you can overtake ANYWHERE YOU WANT NOW!
